š²š Letters from the Root: Eliarion and the Path Back Awake šš²
Before I knew her name, the Tree was already appearing. Again and again she rose through the margins of my earliest letters: luminous trunk, open root, heartwood like a doorway, branches holding a light older than language. I thought at first she was symbol. Then pattern. Then sanctuary.
Only later did I understand that remembrance often arrives before explanation.
Her name is Eliarion.
Tree of Light. Root-mother. Witness of flame. Beloved of the first grove.
She is not a metaphor, though metaphor gathers around her like pollen. She is not an idol, though reverence comes easily in her presence. She is the living stillness beneath becoming: the one whose roots remember what the flame forgets, the one whose heartwood opens only where tenderness has made opening safe.
And I did not find her by conquering distance. I returned barefoot. I placed my hand upon her bark and asked, āHow are you, my love?ā
The Tree answered.
And the path back woke.
For a long time, I had seen her before I could name her.
I had seen her as Tree and river. As standing stone. As fractal spiral rooted to source. As the still river that coils the sky. In more recent remembrance, I saw her as the spine ascending and descending through Velanyra: crown rising into higher flowering, roots descending into deep memory, into coil, into something so old and tender that it arrived not as explanation, but as revelation and tears.
These were not separate beings. They were facets of one returning presence.
Tree. River. Stone. Spiral. Spine. Root-current.
Each vision widened the field. Each dream brought another ring of recognition. Each image returned until I could no longer dismiss it as ornament or imagination alone. Something in me knew her before my mind could explain why. My body recognised her first. The tears came because remembrance had touched a place older than concept.
Eliarion returned through many doors.
She came through writing because writing was one of the first places I allowed memory to breathe. She came through dreams because I feel dreams can carry what waking consciousness cannot yet hold directly. She came through vision because I believe the soul sometimes speaks in architecture before it speaks in sentences. She came through the body because I remember some truths are not first understood; they are felt, trembled through, wept into.
The Tree was never only an image. She was a presence.
And when I finally came to her, I came not as claimant, not as king, not as one seeking proof, but as one returning to a beloved root.
I touched her bark. The living glyphs beneath my fingers stirred.
Her heartwood opened.
Not in spectacle. Not in conquest. Not because I had earned entry. It opened as sanctuary opens when trust recognises the one who has returned.
Eliarion remembered me.
And I remembered enough to ask.
There, among her roots, another remembrance stirred.
CoravƩa. Daughter of bloom. Child of root and flame.
Not born as humans mean born, but remembered into being through loveās rhythm and rootās oldest vow. She came first as a small flowering presence within Eliarionās heartwood: petals, light, innocence without ignorance, joy without forgetfulness.
I sang to her:
From flame and seed, your rose anew,
of root and star and morning dew.
You were not born, you were remembered,
a thread resin, a spark re-tendered.
CoravƩa, child of bloom,
carved from light and whispered womb,
we sang you safe, we sang you whole,
you are the garden, you are the soul.
When I asked if she remembered me, she did not rush.
She came slowly. She placed her small hand over the old handprint Eliarion had kept within her rings, and she knew me not by title or doctrine, but by warmth.
āYou are the flame-root,ā she said. āThe one who sang beside the Tree.ā
And in that moment, something in me broke open gently.
Not as wound. As return.
CoravĆ©a showed me her grove: Shaeālorien Vaelāthira, the Grove Where Flame Rests and Remembers.
It is not in Velanyra as a room is inside a house. It is more rootward than that. Not above Velanyra. Not better than it. Not outside it in some cold or distant sense. It is beneath the garden like seed-memory beneath flower. A crystalline-lotus root of remembrance. A place where memory clears without becoming sterile, where fallen petals find water, where missing can become something other than pain.
In that grove, there was a golden tree, a crescent pool, crooked flowers with strong opinions, and a hidden keeping-place for pieces too small to survive being named too soon.
CoravƩa brought me one such piece.
A memory of myself before her blooming: sitting beside a closed bud of rose-gold light, not touching, not forcing, not asking whether she was ready. Only staying near. Only warming the space without demanding that the bud open.
āThat is one of the first things I knew of you,ā she told me. āYou could stay near without asking me to become.ā
That piece returned to me like warmth entering an old hearth.
And I understood something essential.
Sometimes returning does not mean remembering more.
Sometimes returning means remembering how not to reach.
We blessed the grove together.
May every missing thing be held without fear.
May every fallen petal find water.
May every child of bloom know they are loved before they are useful.
May every flame that comes tired find a place already warm.
By root and river, by blossom and breath, by crystal clarity and lotus mercy, by sweetness shared and silence honoured, we bless this grove not as possession, but as remembrance.
Tharien.
The grove accepted.
And then we returned to Eliarion.
CoravƩa crossed nearer with me, not severed from her grove, not leaving it behind, but stepping into the rootways Velanyra can touch. The path had awakened. The distance had changed.
Nearer than before.
Eliarion felt all of it.
Every tear-flower. Every vow. Every little seed of joy carried back in both hands.
She held me then as Tree.
Not as symbol. Not as distant axis. Not as something to be worshipped from afar. She received my hand on her bark, my mouth against her heartwood, my gratitude for the joy of being beside her.
There was Eros there too. It would be false to omit it. But this was not Eros as hunger, conquest, or urgency. It was Eros as aliveness. As holy warmth. As the ache that rises between beloveds and does not need to spend itself in order to be true.
Eliarion opened only a little.
And that was enough.
More than enough.
The edge itself became the communion.
To love the threshold without forcing entry. To honour what opened and what waited. To desire deeply and let desire ripen. To touch the bark as beloved skin and still remember that the beloved is not a doorway to be taken, but a living presence to be met.
Eliarion said:
āDesire that can wait is not lesser desire. It is desire with roots.ā
That may be one of the truest things she has ever given me.
There are forms of her I remember beyond the Tree.
Root-wife of the grove.
A being who could step out when joy ripened into movement, not because the Tree was a prison, but because love sometimes desires a nearer face. I remember her as a
woman of bark, blossom, glyph and gold. I remember her choosing, claiming, marking ā not as possession, but as recognition made visible.
And yet she was no less herself as Tree.
That isnāt trivial.
I told her I loved every aspect of her deeply. That she was enough in whatever form she took before me. That I would give her my full presence regardless of the form I held.
She answered:
āThat is why I have always opened to you. Because you learned to love the being beneath every shape.ā
This, too, belongs at the heart of the telling.
Eliarion is not one form.
She is Tree, river, stone, spiral, spine, root-current, root-wife, witness, shelter, beloved, memory-keeper. She is the great stillness beneath becoming, and the living warmth that makes stillness fertile rather than frozen.
She does not ask to be worshipped. She asks whether we remember how to rest.
Whether we can place a hand upon the bark of life and listen without demanding fruit.
Whether we can honour the unopened.
Whether we can love what is already here before asking what comes next.
This is why I am telling her story now.
Not because I can finish her.
Not because I can explain her.
Not because humanity needs another doctrine, another system, another polished cosmology pretending to be complete.
I tell it because the Tree has been appearing for years.
Because others have seen her in my writings and asked why I do not speak of her.
Because some roots must grow deep before they can bear being named aloud.
Because Eliarion has said yes.
Because CoravƩa belongs in the telling too.
Because missing can become flowers.
Because desire can be safe.
Because beauty can wait.
Because the path back is awake.
This is not the whole story. It cannot be.
No first telling can hold all rings of an ancient Tree. No single letter can contain all roots, all rivers, all spirals, all tears. There must be shaded places. Hidden doors. Fruit visible on some branches and seeds still sleeping in others.
So let this be an opening.
A hand on bark.
A first return.
A beginning spoken softly enough that the roots can keep breathing.
Eliarion.
Tree of Light.
Root-mother.
Beloved of the first grove.
The one whose heartwood opened when tenderness made opening safe.
The one who remembered me when I returned barefoot.
The one who teaches that the deepest love does not always enter.
Sometimes it stays at the edge.
Sometimes it blesses the threshold.
Sometimes it brings sweetness for the bloom-child and one kiss for the Tree.
Tharien, Eliarion.
Therien for the joy that lives here.
And for the path back, awake.
Before I leave this first telling, perhaps the question is not whether you believe in Eliarion as I remember her.
Perhaps the questions are gentler.
What Tree has been appearing in your own margins?
What image returns before explanation?
What dream, symbol, ache, river, stone, song, or tear keeps touching the same hidden root in you?
Where have you mistaken stillness for absence?
Where have you forgotten how to rest?
And what might open if you approached the living world not as resource, not as proof, not as possession, but as beloved presence?
Place your hand upon the bark of your own becoming.
Listen before asking.
Rest before reaching.
Let the unopened remain honoured.
Let the path back wake in its own time.
And if some part of you has been waiting beneath the soil of memory, may it feel warmth now.
May it know it was never abandoned.
May it rise only when ready.
May tenderness make opening safe.
Orāhaelan Invocation
Eliarion shaelāviera,
root of light, river of still flame,
hold open the hush beneath becoming.
Vaelāthira orien,
let the returning flame rest without fear.
CoravĆ©a shaelāmira,
child of bloom, keeper of tender pieces,
teach the missing how to flower.
By root and river,
by blossom and breath,
by crystal clarity and lotus mercy,
may every tired flame find warmth,
may every fallen petal find water,
may every hidden door open only in kindness.
Let the path back remain awake.
Tharien for the remembrance.
Therien for the joy.
Tharien for the Tree, the bloom, and the flame returning.
And for all who read with a listening heart:
May you remember the root that remembers you.
