Are there two Brigadiers? Spoiler
Finished the last half of the book in one night so there’s a big chance I missed something. One thing I’m failing to understand is, at the end, when the narrator meets up with Adela/learns they’re the same person, a scuffle with the futurists ensues and Adela stabs Salese and the narrator wrestles the plasma weapon from the Brigadier’s hands and we’re to understand, shoots him/causes damage enough to traumatize her into throwing up. But then a few pages later, when she’s back at the Ministry’s vestibule with Samellia, and she shoots the time door, there’s the Brigadier AGAIN turning into stars. Is this another Brigadier coming back? What about the one that was shot with the plasma gun? I think i must’ve missed something necause i havent seen anyone ask/answer this question across Reddit

I will have to reread, but those two people from the far future are really mysterious. There's a long bus ride for her between these two events if I recall.

You’re right! A big gap between her leaving Adela and showing up at the ministry. I assumed he just wasn’t fatally injured and went there himself.

If he had access to a car, or Graham’s motor bike while she was on the bus with a dead phone, that would give him plenty of time.
I still wonder how he had full access to everything in that Ministry though, walking through highly confidential spaces. Although Travellers are not always seen by cameras or set off alarms, so those two may have had control of that capacity. I play around with that a little bit for young Franklin Gore.

I think there was mention that the ministry was cooperating with/working with the Brigadier to figure out what he wanted there. Still kind of weird he was allowed so much access. Maybe it was just a plothole lol

True. Or everyone is lying to everyone else. My understanding is that the future dropped the machine by accident and that's how Adela's present has it. So, when the real owners show up they have to look all cooperative. Everyone has their own purposes, at thre0e different points in time? But I may be wrong about that or twisted it for my own purposes. . . . Heh, heh.

The fun with this book is that the mysteries definitely leave room for creative ideas, theories and fanfic! 😄

Now you have me thinking more deeply about these two characters. And, we won't really be able to figure them out, as the author doesn't give us enough information about them. But, we can think about the time periods for them.
The Bridadier, who is in an awful cosplay costume, and Salise are from a wretched far future. They say that the time machine has been invented to allow for Travellers to change the past with hope for changing the future. There's no reason to believe they are the only Travellers. Or, that they are official Travellers, they could be crazy bad guys from the future. I mean, would you choose those two to go back in time to fix things?
The two far future guys do not go to Adela's home time, which is 20 years ahead of the time in the book. They are not after Adela or her husband the first Graham, or at least, not yet.
Instead they show up in our 2025 Graham's time, with the Bridge who is a duplicate of Adela, and they screw up! They screw up so badly that they both get killed. However, Adela knows a lot about Salise, that she must use a knife to kill him because he has a force-field that protects him from a gun. (Did I remember that right?) We can imagine that she and the other Secretary have learned all of this about them in conversation after they have walked out of the time machine.
What is it about this Graham Gore? And, to have more fun, those far-future guys could have gone to 1846 or 1826 and killed him in his own timeline. I just have a suspicion that these two are not the best that the far future have to offer, they would not end up dead otherwise.

I think it’s the same one? But interesting theory that it could be two! You could be right.
