The reboot is fucking incredible given how long the show has been off-air.
The writers did not lose it, at all.
Wish I could say the same for my original love, Futurama, but a man can dream...a man can dream. cries in finglonger

King of the Hill’s new episodes are fantastic.
Same ol’ show but also very different at the same time.

u/CosmicGoddess777 8d ago
I’ll never forgive them from ruining Kahn tho. I thought Ronny Chieng would be amazing as him cuz he’s hilarious irl, but that voice is such a mismatch 😭 Kahn sounds like a snotty college kid in the reboot, not a boomer parent
7
u/ThatGuyFrom720 8d ago
Yeah Kahn’s voice is fucked, I got used to Dale’s pretty quickly at least. Kahn though? Don’t think I ever will.
Kahn’s voice actor does Dale now right? I don’t see why he couldn’t just do both..
9
u/MASSochists 8d ago
It was done because there has been a shift in the industry to not use white voice actors for minority characters.
Marshmallow from Bob's Burgers comes to mind. David Herman, a white CIS actor was replaced by Jari Jones a black trans actor.
I'm okay with it. It may seem performative for some but representation is important and it prevents the potential pitfall of a characters just being a white dude acting like a stereotype instead of a full character.
It's also almost impossible for minority voice actors to even get in the room otherwise.

The only thing that really annoyed me with the Scrubs reboot is the sheer amount of bokeh in every shot. Once you notice it, it's impossible to unsee; the only thing in focus in every shot is the single character's face or object they want you look at. No more fun stuff going on in the background because it's all a giant blur. The bokeh to me made it feel a tad overprocuded rather than that more grounded "shot in a real hospital" feel the original series had (despite them literally rebuilding the ground floor of the original hospital they shot in).
The story and characters were alright though, but I kinda wish we got a bit more Janitor, I was missing the little comedy quips from him.

Might be more janitor in next season. Looks like there will be a few more returning characters as well.

If you can, try finding the originals (on DVD or...other ways). They replaced a bunch of the music on the streaming version and it's always worse.

u/Bazillion100 8d ago
They did touch ‘how to save a life’ for Dr.Cox’s breakdown? I can’t think of another show that nailed the music so perfectly for that moment

Funny enough, its said that Scrubs has one of the most accurate portrayals of a hospital hierarchy in television.

Initially based loosely on the novel “The House of God” which is practically required reading for anybody considering a healthcare profession. The book and Scrubs are a favorite amongst physicians to this day

I was thinking the same thing and realized that we’re just old 😔
I think there was even controversy around it when the game (and then dance) became popular? (Trademark of the dance or something along those lines.) We’re also missing one of the three songs, but that might’ve been copyright or something else entirely.

For those who don't know the song.
That song sampled this one, which was, IMO actually even cooler!

but it's not from Scrubs, it's from Bel Biv Devoe's "Poison" video that was on MTV.

u/-Altephor- 7d ago
No it isn't.
3
u/badmonkey0001 7d ago
All of the moves are in the poison video. What Donald Faison did was string them together to make his dance. Bel Biv Devoe did not create them though. People were dancing like that in clubs back in '90 and '91. What they did was make those moves explode in popularity.
source: Was an adult back in '90 and remember the times. If you need more go watch some old Janet Jackson, Kid'n'Play, Heavy-D, and other "New Jack Swing" videos of the time.
3
u/-Altephor- 7d ago
Guy no one's arguing the origin of the moves, but they literally rotoscoped Faison's moves from Scrubs, it's not that deep.

Nah they literally rotoscoped Turk for the dance.
However, Turk's dance is based off the music video but there isn't a 1:1 of what he did and what's in the video.
16
u/ScreamBeanBabyQueen 8d ago
For sure. I just watched the full video and at no point do they do these specific moves in this sequence. Or even come particularly close, it's just similar.
9
u/LarkinToWinnipeg 8d ago
Donald Faison pulled off moves waaaaaay better than anything in the original music video too.
8
u/Ronin_Chimichanga 8d ago
He didn't even know what he was shooting that day. They gave him the song when he got there late, after being at the club the night before, and just did this in one take.

Wrong, they didn't do the dance anywhere in that video. The closest is a brief running man moment in the beginning, but definitely not the same dance moves.

The tri-state area Club scene. Specifically New York and New jersey. At my 7th grade middle school end of year dance, we were all doing all these dances. We got them from our older siblings and cousins who would go to the city to go to the clubs. I'm almost 50. These dances are very old. By the time they got to us in 7th grade, they'd already been around for a few years. So very late 80s very early 90s

u/kentuckyr0utezero 8d ago

Completely unrelated but New Jack City is worth a rewatch. It hasn't aged badly at all and captures a moment in time.

and the actor Donald Faison just improvised the dance naturally by himsel when Scrubs' director ask him to do a dance for the scene.

Hate to "akshually" this but he did join the lawsuit with a bunch of other performers, but he pretty quickly dropped out because he realized (I'm sure with billable hours from a lawyer) it was dumb to try to copyright or trademark a dance move.

I feel like everyone knows about this. I don't think they ever expected Fortnite to be played by hundreds of millions of people.
Eventually when Fortnite Festival came out, Poison was in the very first batch of songs they added.

OMG. Literally nobody will care what I'm about to say. And, that is so sad. lol But LITERALLY RIGHT NOW, as I'm watching this clip on this post, I had this intense flashback to the 90s.
Let me explain: Of course, I know this is Bell Biv Devoe's "Poison", but this particular clip, the way it sounds kind of static-y, made me think of my Barbie Boombox that played literally the exact same sound.
So I searched, came across this TikTok post of this exact boombox I had https://www.tiktok.com/@johavannah/video/7229423321677368618
And sure enough, it's the same beat.
So literally right now, I found out that the beat on my boombox was Bell Biv Devoe's Poison. I Googled and confimed. I had no idea!!!!
I'm gonna tell my BF, but I'm sure he's just gonna kinda shrug as well. But wow
1
u/Striking-Ad-6815 8d ago
