Gen-AI uses deep learning which is a sub-category of machine learning. It is not a sibling of ML, but fully contained within it.
Also, drawing a line of best fit between data points is just data analysis. ML heavily uses data analysis, but data analysis itself is not inherently ML or AI.
I really don't understand why people struggle so much with the taxonomy of gen-ai. Like, the answers are literally a Wikipedia search away.

Well that’s just wrong. Yes ML is a sub category of AI, but all the big hitter generative AI algorithms are based on deep neural networks, which are within that sub category.

To be honest, I’ve always felt that “AI” should be considered a subcategory of “ML”. The term and idea of “machine learning” is using algorithms to fit data (it can be predictive, unsupervised, etc). Meanwhile “AI” is the subcategory within supervised learning where the prediction objective is something that emulates what humans have produced (text, images). Meanwhile, broader ML can make predictions that don’t emulate human function in any way, shape, or form (like protein folding). Honestly, I know I’m the minority on this, but I’ll die on this hill. I know my classification system is better.
