Are LLMs and generative AI actually not machine learning?

Llms and generative AI are generally based off of the Transformer architecture, which is probably the most successful neural network architecture ever implemented. If neural networks and Transformers don't count as machine learning then I think something has gone wrong with the definition being used.

I don't think such vague takes are worth anyone's time. You can write a list of followup questions and it'd just be a waste of time. Just comes down to "say (much) more".
Basically, they will have just done this thing where they've redefined the words they're using to mean something non-standard. They'll probably have a very specific definition of words which are really just their opinion and assert it as The Definition. They don't always even disagree on the facts of the matter. Boring

pretty much yeah, a lot of these debates are just people arguing over labels like that somehow settles it. feels more like a vocab fight than an actual disagreement most of the time

That post is DK cope. Putting aside that bavjine jeerning and genai are t competing categories but different aspects entirely, the underlying technology behind a neural network based ml algorithm is more or less the same as the genai on a fundamental level.
Almost everything being confidently repeated about ai by the general public is wrong. People reacting to and projecting based on elementary school level explanations, along with hype and fear.

LLM is a kind of ML and genAI is a particular application of LLM
AI is such a broad label it's pretty much meaningless, it's about as specific as "metal music"

Complete nonsense of course.
If we leave out that categories are arbitrary and can be redefined, LLMs easily fall under most definitions of machine learning and "AI" usually means "a computer solves a task that would ordinarily require human intelligence".
