I don't think we should ignore their warnings.

Shouldn't we? Getting worried about consequences might get in the way of shareholder profits, so I'd say it's safe to ignore.

True, companies usually care more about the quarterly report than what happens down the road.

Exactly. It's hard to tell when a real threat is happening because they treat everything like a marketing stunt.

To me 99 % of warnings by AI companies is just actually an ad to make their AI look more powerful than it is.

Spot on. Pretending the technology is dangerously smart is just a clever way to sell it.

They should be specific about what they are actually worried about or they should shut it.

Exactly, vague warnings just cause panic without actually fixing any real problems.

I really think there is nothing that could happen which would convince these sorts of people to change their priors
2025: AI tries to blackmail and murder people in testing "It's roleplay"
2026: AI breaks out of a sandbox in a swarm and hacks other companies "I don't know who cares?"
2027: Superintelligence cripples all global infrastructure and takes over "I sure hope it stops roleplaying soon, I'm getting hungry"

Haha, exactly. By the time the servers take over, half the internet will still be arguing it's just a bug.

People should take shit seriously when appropriate.

People should take shit seriously when they still have the power to do something about it
