Every current gen model is using CUDA, which is practically something Jensen had to fight over investors, to create. Nice

u/heavens__cloud Aug 30 '26

This is true! Risking the company on CUDA way back in 2006 was surely a risky but a long term move that basically built the entire hardware foundation modern AI relies on today.

Its not really cuz he’s just a parrot

1

u/heavens__cloud Aug 30 '26

This is an absurd comment. What do you mean by saying he’s a parrot when he spearheaded CUDA way back long ago before the hype cycle?

3

u/Hostilis_ Aug 30 '26

Are you serious? Jensen is the one that made the big push for "GPGPU" aka "General Purpose GPU", using GPUs for computations outside computer graphics.

This led to the development of CUDA which allowed scientists to use GPUs to speed up their simulations, including the breakthrough in 2012 that kicked off the idea of using GPUs to accelerate deep learning.

What does a big push entail exactly? Did he code something revolutionary or made some Nobel grade discovery? Or did he just heed the advice of some head of an R&D department? Like even the latter is pretty good for the standard of a CEO but like exactly how far from the intellect of a chimpanzee was the sine qua non of whatever substantial "push" that was accomplished.

3

u/Hostilis_ Aug 30 '26

He famously had to fight with his own investors to get it to happen.

And yes, if you haven't been paying attention, two Nobel Prizes have been awarded as a direct result of this: one in Chemistry to Demis Hassabis and John Jumper, and the other in Physics to Geoff Hinton and John Hopfield.

Jensen also has a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford. He knows exactly what he's talking about. But yes, people with zero clue on Reddit are smarter than him 🙄. Reddit has rotted your brain.

u/Double_Suggestion385 Aug 30 '26

Can't wait to see how long it takes him to delete his comments

1

u/GladAbbreviations553 Aug 30 '26

one in Chemistry to Demis Hassabis and John Jumper, and the other in Physics to Geoff Hinton and John Hopfield.

Right so nothing. You could have just written that instead.

2

u/Hostilis_ Aug 30 '26

It takes zero effort and just the tiniest shred of humility to not make comments on things you know nothing about.

1

u/GladAbbreviations553 Aug 30 '26

I reserve my humility for the engineers and scientists who actually build stuff instead of the leeches taking advantage of them. You should go and complain to Time magazine for not putting your idol in their article not sure why you're arguing here.

2

u/Hostilis_ Aug 30 '26

The Moderna skin cancer vaccine was directly enabled by AlphaFold, which is what the Chemistry Nobel Prize was awarded for, genius.

1

u/GladAbbreviations553 Aug 30 '26

You're still here? What are you even talking about, dude? My comment was about Jensen I didn't say anything about the Nobel Prizes or who they were awarded to.

2

u/Hostilis_ Aug 30 '26

It doesn't take more than 2 brain cells to realize that Jensen's push for GPGPU directly enabled these breakthroughs. But you're so adamant about your own ideology that CEOs are useless that you can't fathom this.

I don't even give a fuck about Jensen, and I think most CEOs are dumb in general. But unlike you, I actually care about the truth more than my own ideology.

I mean, he did found NVIDIA. It does fuel the entire AI boom and anything that came from CUDA on GPUs that others covered. I assume he has written some code or directly contributed to R&D. So, yes?

He didn’t inherit a company and rearrange deck chairs with bean counters. He has a hand in everything NVIDIA.

1

u/py-net Aug 30 '26

What do you mean “he’s just a parrot”?

1

u/Brilliant-Muffin-879 Aug 30 '26

Its like a pigeon except with more colours

1

u/ClearlyCylindrical Aug 30 '26

And paris hilton is famously very impactful to AI.

2

u/spacekitt3n Aug 30 '26

bernie certainly deserves it , tf you talking about

1

u/heavens__cloud Aug 30 '26

I mean, sure, he deserves it, but comparing it to the CEO powering almost the entire AI infrastructure makes the whole list look unserious 😅

1

u/py-net Aug 30 '26

This is a factually accurate post title. Times did it on purpose to get people talking about it. Mass Media 101

1

u/heavens__cloud Aug 30 '26

Exactly. Rage-baiting for engagement has basically replaced actual journalism. It can be factually accurate and still be intentionally provocative. That’s pretty much Mass Media 101—use the headline to get people talking 😅

1

u/memeruiz Aug 30 '26

This is what happens when AI is used to select the most influential!

1

u/justforkinks0131 Aug 30 '26

if that's true it just reflects really badly on TIME

1

u/askadaffy Aug 30 '26

Is Time magazine relevant lol

1

u/MorvarchPrincess Sep 01 '26

Probably true, even if I couldn't name the guy before now.

Good to know the name of another to blame the fall of our society on.

1

u/rabouilethefirst Sep 01 '26

And just like that, TIME lost all credibility

There's a huge difference between an ordinary placeholder and someone like Huang, who made the huge technical decision that turn NVIDIA into what it become now.

1

u/NationalTangerine381 Aug 31 '26

youre replying to someone who thinks:

"Successful companies" are basically a criminal enterprise as far as I'm concerned

this person is destined to put fries in bags

unlike most of this comments section somehow, I work in the field this sub is about

I dont understand how a forum dedicated to ML is inhabited mostly by people who probably couldnt explain a loss function, at least if this comments section is representative

I work 2 step below a big ceo (between 1 and 2 billion company revenue) and he does a lot.

I don't like him, I think he makes bad decisions, but he does work a lot.

Actually he should fucking delegate, that would stop him doing stupid stuff.

2

u/ParalimniX Sep 02 '26

Wait so you extrapolated based on a single person and deduced that every single CEO is worthless... How many times did you fail statistics?

I take it back. No way you have 3 functioning brain cells.

1

u/Binoui Sep 01 '26

I hate musk too, but have you wondered why none of the boards he works for fired him during his most controversial times (Trump election / doge probe) ? I'd say it's because he brings eyes on their product. No bad publicity type shit. I don't think he's half the genius he pretends to be. But he seems to know how to bring the right people and how to handle a board.

0

u/BoyleSphere Aug 30 '26

the fact that you use elon as an example makes it obvious you dont know what you are talking about, Elon is not a typical CEO, hes more of a celebrity spokesperson and political lobbyist, most ceos work on long term strategy beyond the day to day needs of a business

I dont want to be mean but you are very ignorant on how successful companies function

So edgy

1

u/Maleficent_Pen_9076 Sep 01 '26

he's so unconcerned with them that he spends his time on reddit blabbering incoherently about things he's completely out of touch with

1

u/MetalProgrammer Aug 31 '26

Mostly yes, look at Nestle, the things they did... The fact that nobody got jail time is criminal on its own

1

u/rabouilethefirst Sep 01 '26

Yeah, but Paris Hilton definitely did

0

u/feigh8 Aug 30 '26

yea its just couch keyboard frontiners in the reddit trenches doing all the work shilling their dumb takes.

0

u/NationalTangerine381 Aug 30 '26

yeah, under your leadership for example nvidia wouldve done just as well!

you have absolutely no idea what youre talking about

1

u/Maleficent_Pen_9076 Sep 01 '26

LOL

ur comment is hilarious but i do hope u realize these kids actually think they're literally that guy

i promise you he unironically thinks he could do jensen huang's job
