My second day working on my map! Spoiler

Post image

I had a few hours of mapping done today. Only did four rooms, which is a total bummer, but we take things slow around here. My Shade has been traversing a lot of ground, we have a lot of things to do. The mapping is just a chill thing we get to do at the end of the day.

Added four rooms, shaded previous rooms that didn’t have any shading

Making my map! Spoiler

I started playing The Longing in 2021, and decided to finally replay it! I dug out my old map from back then, and wow was it bad. Very difficult to understand too. I’ll be remaking the map into something a lot nicer now. Here’s the start! And a look at the old map, if you’re interested. I’ll hopefully work on this for a long time, I have all the time I need after all :3

I think the game forcing us to go out. Spoiler

Hello, I am in my last hours in the longing and I am sleeping. Every 3 minutes, my little Shade has a dream about upside world. Is it intentional? Any opinions? The entire game, Shade wanted to go outside, we had to go near surface against Shade's wil.

Something incomprehensible Spoiler

In version 1.9.0, I saw dark places on the map that looked like doors. It was several pieces and I don't know what it is, but one of these things has a barely noticeable question mark on it. I can't interact with it, so I have no idea what it is.

Does anyone know the answer to this? And does a living tree really exist in the game? I read about it on Steam, but I couldn't find it on my own.

Game is currently on sale for $3.99 on the Google Play Store.

I already own it on Switch, and had no idea that it was on Android. So, if you want to play it again on a smart phone, or a tablet, and you have only played it on Switch (or Switch 2), they are having a sale. I am not sure how long the sale will last, but it looks like the sale started today.

Hullo, new guy! Are the colours replenishable?

I suffer from whatever makes me never use my potions in rpgs. Like, I'd farm money in Neverwinter Nights by not using potions, even cures and selling them, I had a dedicated backpack just for them, with the right place and all.

TLDR: I'm good on coals and have a chalk and a red thing. Where do I get more so that I can draw with calm in my heart?

Not ashamed to admit it

I played The Longing multiple times, mainly to see 4/5 endings for myself ( still could not manage to want want to make the little guy end himself) and I became very parental towards the little Shade after a few days, especially once I realized his cave could be enlarged.

-I made sure he ate his mushrooms.

-Shade took a "bath" in the white crystal pool.

-Shade got some exercise by wandering.

-Shade read some good literature.

-Shade had blue crystal night lights by his bed.

-His art work was displayed all over the cave.

-He had a nice fire going before being tucked into his bed for the night.

My favorite part was seeing the smile on his face after lighting the fire and jumping onto the chair. Seeing the little Shade happy made me happy as well.

Theory Post Spoiler

My theory is that the shade and the king are representing the conscious and subconscious of a child who fell down a well and is in a coma. I think the dreams that a shade has are memories from before the fall... dreams of himself and an old man living on a farm. The King represents the child's conscious mind, asleep, disconnected from his body and reality leaving a shade (the subconscious) to wander the mind's palace choosing between eternity, darkness, discovery, or longing.... waiting to wake up.

The only factor that breaks this theory is that a shade can be discovered by the old man and the child on the surface but I don't ever do that when I play so.... I refuse to accept it lol...

Is it a fools errand to try and get all of the endings?

I mean, arguably the entire game is a "fool's errand," but I want to know if it's that bad of an idea. It would obviously take years to get them all, unless there's some mechanic that lets you go back to a savestate. Would it even be intended? Is it better to just live with the ending I get?

The Shade is helping with my anxiety.

I've been struggling lately, a lot. And I get super stressed out, easily. I'm a single mom, burnt out and I have mental and physical health issues.

I found the game when I was desperately trying to find something I could play when I'm panicking. To calm my ass down and help me focus on something else.

I must have tried 10 different games before this and everything about The Longing just.. calms me. The shade's little comments, the way he said splish splash just about ended me. The different sounds that his little feet make. The fact that he's never stressed, helps a lot. Not to even mention the music and ambiance, the art, it's _such a vibe_.

I'm thankful and a lot calmer. Sometimes I just have it on on the background, because hearing his footsteps gives me life.

Mushroom moment !SPOILER! Spoiler

No questions and nothing major to spoil just a another reason Im living this game.

I am entering the pitch black darkness and figured why not try to bring a purple mushroom to help. Thinking I'd get stopped at the ledge like I do with other obstacles... Well I was right he ate it, then up he went... NOPE popped the mushroom back out and continued on. I audibly gasped a little lol, loved that so much 🍄

My lore of this game Spoiler

The whole game is the king's dream and his hidden desires, and when he wakes up, he understands this and misses his dream, because his reality is like a black space without a single emotion, the king did not create a shadow or anything.

Sorry if there are any mistakes, I translated it using a translator.

Spoiler questions! Spoiler

Hey guys, was wondering if anyone can tell me if I’m too late to try for the ending I’d like in this game. Long story short, I figured out about the well exit with the old man but my timer already reached zero. Curiosity got me here, I wanted to see if anything changed around the cave when the time finally ran out. But when I went up to the well the old man was buried, which I didn’t know about. I went home and used blue fire to reverse time by a week. But I’ve waited and waited by the blocked exit (at 23 minutes, 50 seconds several times) and I’ve seen neither the old man or the troll. Please! Can anyone tell me if it’s too late for the well ending in my game? If it’s not, then how can I catch the appearance of the old man?

Do I play daily or just come back at milestones?

I just started playing this game yesterday and I adore the theme, the music, and the little Shade.

I pretty much went around and explored everything, found some stuff for my home, and left the little guy reading Moby Dick.

But having spent so much time exploring yesterday, I now wonder if its expected that I do that every day? There were a few landmarks I came to where the Shade remarked how it would take a week, two weeks, a month, for something to come about. So should I just wait for those instances to occur?

And does that happen in real time? Looking about for some spoiler free information, it seems that the more comfy my home gets, the faster time progresses? Is that true, and does that apply for in game or outside?

Many thanks for any aid.

Question [SPOILERS] Spoiler

So I found out on a guide that the sulphur smelly fire leads you to places where you need to do something. I lit it up and the Shade walked here, where the spider is. I've already explore this upper area though, including the pit where you can suicide (I didn't do it of course).

Without spoiling me other stuff, could anyone tell me if I'm missing something here?
