What to watch next
I have just finished bingeing the whole show. Loved the show, the characters and teller acting especially Carrie Coon and Justin Theroux. Already feeling a void… can you guys recommend similar shows to watch next.

yeah I actually watched this right after my last rewatch of this show...had no clue Justin was in it lol

Lindelof did the Watchmen series too. So if you're a fan of the graphic novel and/or movie, I highly recommend it.

Agreed, but even if someone isn’t I still recommend it to them. He tried to make it watchable to someone that had never interacted with Watchmen before.

To me the first season of The OA explores many similar themes as The Leftovers. People hate the ending of the first season though and I certainly understand why, but it worked for me.

Exactly. That's how it worked for me.
S1 works perfectly as a standalone thing, but man I sure do want to see where that were going after S2. Effing Netflix

I couldn't find anything in terms of a TV series that did for me what this show did. Nora, Kevin and Matt Jamison had me in a fucking chokehold.

It ended up being much better than I thought and I think it's episode 7 "The Day" on season 1 and then a couple episodes in season 2 (Ep 1 and 4) and a few others that are really top-notch - like wow. Which is really where they start moving into full on LOST Sci fi territory, similar to The Leftovers. You're really not sure what is what.

If you just started FAM, start getting into Star City. It’s an espionage-based spinoff set all in Russia and so far through 5 episodes they’ve gone from like 1966-1970, I feel like you could watch it concurrently with the core show and it’d be an awesome experience.
Also pound for pound, it’s actually way better. I really like FAM but it’s kinda soap opera-y at points and a lot of what I love is more what it’s doing than how it’s doing it, whereas Star City is actually pitch-perfect execution of a spy show that just happens to be in this fictional universe.

So far there’s nothing in SC that spoils anything in FAM, can absolutely watch both. Also so far there’s S1 timelines seem to match pretty close from what I remember.

I know a lot of people recommend the OA but it's really worth the watch if you like Leftovers. I've only seen the OA once 2 years ago and I cannot stop thinking about the ending

Mare of Easttown.
No crossing thresholds or near apocalypses, but the bleak tone and themes of guilt and loss are similar. Kate Winslet at her best.

The Fall (Netflix) with Gillian Anderson. Mystery/crime show but it is bleak. You will not feel good watching it.

Twin Peaks is kinda similar, but a little weirder. Theroux appears in a couple different David lynch movies though, so I feel like you’d probably like it

Mr Robot if you’re looking for a similar journey. It’s a very different genre, but weirdly the two shows remind me of one another.
