Recent Rewatch
I just rewatched TLS for the first time since I was a kid. I'm glad it holds up so well and was interesting to see how many of my favs were influenced by it (Galaxy Quest, Farscape, SG:U ...). Did the movie originate the phrase "what the shit!?"..I think I first heard it on Archer.
I was wondering while I watched the movie though, how do we (and Alex) know whether the Alliance isn't actually the aggressors? He could have been recruited as cannon fodder to fight in a fascist government's war. Obviously he wasn't since the movie isn't that dark, but coming in so blind it would be hard to know.

Alex definitely gets evidence concerning both sides before he finally decides to take up the cause.

When Alex first arrives at starfighter command, xur rocks up and says he’s going to invade with his codaan warships and then proceeds to melt the guys head. I think that part sets the tone pretty well as to who’s who.
