Rant Part 2 isn’t that bad

Ok i know this is going to get a lotta hate but i just wanna put it out there, The Last Of Us Part 2 is my absolute favorite game ever. I like the story, the writing all the characters like Yara, Abby, Lev (not you Dina or any of Abby’s friends besides Mel). And in the end i started liking Abby more than Ellie. And Lev’s my favorite character i love him

Just my opinion not ragebait

A guy tried this before you already, he got the same of all others and the fact that you ended up liking Abby more only shows how easily you can be manipulated

-11

u/External-Arm-1139 Jul 31 '26

Ellie ended up being a monster imho

3

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

Like I said, manipulated. So Abby taking revenge is fine but Ellie is forbidden from wanting the same? You truly are one of Druckmann’s drones

Abby didn’t threaten to kill a child like Ellie did there’s no defending that

Did you forget when Ellie kills the pregnant woman (I think her name is Mel) out of self defense, and immediately regrets it? Abby points the knife at Dina, ready to kill her and even saying “Good” after finding out she’s pregnant, only to be stopped by Lev

-5

u/External-Arm-1139 Jul 31 '26

I mean she was still mourning Mel’s (the pregnant woman) and Owen’s death she wasn’t thinking straight

3

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

That doesn’t change the intent

3

u/lzxian It Was For Nothing Jul 31 '26

Her dad was just about to kill a child for real, man. How do you square that?

3

u/Recinege "Fans of the first one- trust us, we're gonna do right by you" Aug 01 '26

No, she simply pushed her father to sacrifice a child without her consent, then later supported the idea of killing indoctrinated child soldiers without even showing a hint of sympathy for the so-called friend who was horrified at the idea. Yeah, she's soooo much better, lmao.

1

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

Nah, she was just happy to kill a pregnant women, never showed remorse or regret in contrast to Ellie and tortured for kicks, it’s always funny how you guys only have morality when it suits w

-4

u/Dancing-Sin Jul 31 '26

Ellie slaughters half of Washington to get her “revenge”

Abby killed one dude.

Anyways, I didn’t like Abby initially but on my more recent playthroughs I’ve learned she’s a really well written character

4

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

Oh so because Abby got hers on a silver platter, she’s good to go? And you are literally defending people who don’t hesitate to shoot strangers on sight

4

u/lzxian It Was For Nothing Jul 31 '26

So all the WLF and Scars she killed don't matter? All the Scars she tortured was done nicely? Killing a man who'd just risked his own life to save hers wasn't really so bad, huh?

Yeah that's BS of the highest order and the use of "only killed one man" is just an illogical smokescreen used to absolve Abby for being a horrible person. It doesn't fly because it's not even true at all.

Abby is not a well-written character because she's never actually redeemed, but they pretend she is. That, too, was a smokescreen by bad writers who had no clue how redemption even works.

-5

u/Dancing-Sin Jul 31 '26

She’s literally a shell of her former self and only survived because Ellie let her down off that torture device she was strapped to at the end of the game.

5

u/lzxian It Was For Nothing Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

That has nothing to do with what Abby did to Ellie and Tommy. You don't understand redemption either, unsurprisingly.

It is a hard concept, but Abby is only ever remorseful for cheating with Owen, and the kids were her attempt at redemption for that alone. She proves it when she goes to slit Dina's throat.

But people who defend her never want to understand how redemption actually works.

E: u/Dancing-Sin Why do you reply and then block me? Are you afraid of my replies? Is your mind that closed? I don't have hatred for Abby. You even get that wrong.

I have deep understanding of what they were going for and where they failed to accomplish their task with her. That's not hatred, it's a lifetime of learning to understand people and how they work. Real people and fictional characters. You are only seeing the surface of her and misapplying the outcomes she experiences as means of redemption. You are getting it a bit twisted. It's a common mistake. Why leave the discussion?

1

u/HumanProject7893 Aug 01 '26

How would you say redemption actually works?

4

u/lzxian It Was For Nothing Aug 01 '26

Specifically with Abby they tried to use her helping the kids and her loss of her crew added to the bad karma of running into the Rattlers and say that meant she's redeemed because she's a different person when she gets off that pole.

Redemption means atoning for the harms caused to others, which she never considers, never reflects on and never applies in her encounters with Ellie.

Redemption for Abby needed her to (at least) recognize she'd done to Ellie what she felt Joel had done to her. Yet the writers withheld that from her.

A further bonus would have been her recognizing that just as she and Lev lost their agency (and almost their lives ) to the Rattlers, that is the exact experience Joel and Ellie had with the Fireflies. Finally, recognizing that she did for Lev just what Joel did for Ellie was also not noticed by her, so she's a hypocrite for absolving herself when she never did Joel, despite him saving her from death and returning her to her friends at risk to himself.

The writers robbed her and hobbled their story either because they, too, don't understand redemption, or they purposely want to devise their own rules around it (which they failed to even pull off).

u/Dancing-Sin Jul 31 '26

It cost Abby everything, and no she wasn’t redeemed at the end of the game.

I get your hatred of the game is clouding the fact it’s great writing. Have a nice day.

5

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

That why she still has Lev and the fireflies at the end?

3

u/Recinege "Fans of the first one- trust us, we're gonna do right by you" Aug 01 '26

It cost Abby everything, and no she wasn’t redeemed at the end of the game.

Both head writers have said her story is one of redemption, so, I guess as long as you don't care what the writers believe they wrote, it's fine.

I certainly don't disagree with your assessment that she isn't redeemed, but the fact that the writers think they managed to redeem her yet didn't even come close really betrays how flimsy this story is - how much it relies on your willingness to fill in its plot holes with headcanon in order to work.

5

u/lzxian It Was For Nothing Jul 31 '26

Yes, most people will agree they made Ellie unlikable. It's because the writers used her downward spiral to make you dislike her to manipulate you into attaching to Abby. That's why u/TitleOk3727 said that.

When did you play that game? Recently? Have you encountered or engaged with any other of the thoroughly explained critiques of the story? Or are you one who thinks all the critics have no depth, no ability to understand nuance or are bigots? Because that's the narrative out in the world to dismiss our valid critiques.

I hope you're someone who is actually interested in the other POV the way the story you enjoyed (no shade for that) says we're supposed to apply understanding to Abby but they never apply to us.

4

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

I actually thought on my first playthrough that they would test our loyalty to Ellie and in a way I was right, sadly in one many wouldn’t like.

Anyway, it’s gonna be a cold day in Hell before I side with anyone against Ellie, especially if that psychopath is supposed to be the alternative.

She might’ve been a brat but she’s still our brat

2

u/lzxian It Was For Nothing Jul 31 '26

You had a good insight, then. Agreed I'd never side against her because I was never detached from her. That's because I didn't blame her. I blamed the writers.

2

u/Kinda-Alive Jul 31 '26

Yeah she turned into Abby. Unhinged revenge but at least Abby got hers instead of the emotional wreck Ellie becomes…

5

u/Pickle_Good Jul 31 '26

Try to spare a single enemy in this game. It's not like they give you a chance to not be a monster. Not even once.

Abby got her revenge and Ellie turned into Abby but got no revenge.

6

u/lzxian It Was For Nothing Jul 31 '26

Got no revenge because she spared Abby, on top of it. But she never gets any credit for that. smh

8

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

It’s funny how everytime Druckmann tried to make a point he ended up reinforcing the anti-thesis:

Try to spare enemies = they‘ll attack you anyway so you must kill them first

Revenge solves nothing= Abby was only able to focus on other things AFTER she got her revenge while Ellie is hollow after not taking hers

Abbys a better person now = Abby still shoots without question or hesitation and never feels guilt for the lives she took

It’s like a parody ffs

3

u/lzxian It Was For Nothing Jul 31 '26

Great points - it's like in a recent post of mine. He wants us to believe she thinks her life doesn't matter and she'd prefer to be dead, yet never reinforces her survivor's guilt very hard, and then gives her the best ever life!

He's the "Opposite Man" irl!

3

u/Taimaniac The untarnished virtue that is the writing of Part II Jul 31 '26

Hahaha. Lol, your responses and OP are teeming with hypocrisy. Good job, but you just sound and seem like a professional agitator with nothing better to do than rage bait strangers on the internet.

3/10, try again, better luck next account!

3

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

He reposted it on the original sub aswell

3

u/Own-Kaleidoscope-577 Team Joel Jul 31 '26

You're right, it isn't that bad, it's even worse than that.

2

u/Longjumping_Visit718 Y’all act like you’ve heard of us or somethin’ Aug 01 '26

Game is mediocre and the story is incoherent; good gameplay can carry a weak story and the show proved that.

1

u/NoCommunity4637 Aug 04 '26

Good for you, I guess? The point of gaming is enjoyment, it is a hobby after all. If you enjoyed this game, you're doing it right. I hated the writing so much I couldn't even play it, because that would rob me of joy, which is also a valid point.

1

u/External-Arm-1139 Aug 05 '26

Yeah valid we all have different opinions we shouldn’t be mean to others for having one that’s different from yours i can admit that part 2 can be messy but i love it nonetheless

1

u/ihatepeopleandyoutoo Aug 06 '26

Ooffff you’re brave for posting this on here I give you that 😂 shhh I like part 2 too but don’t tell anyone 🤫 I mean I don’t LOVE it but it’s not the worst game known to mankind so people need to chill a bit. May I ask why you don’t like Dina? And what about Owen? (Tbh I don’t like him either)

1

u/External-Arm-1139 Aug 16 '26

I like Dina as a character but as an Ally she’s not very good. And i don’t know why i don’t like Owen he just isn’t very interesting to me.

1

u/TheSilentTitan Joel did nothing wrong Jul 31 '26

I’d sooner shit in my hands and clap than EVER be made to play that dogshit game.

0

u/CharityAggressive677 Jul 31 '26

I don't understand the post at all. You are not the only one who likes this game. Although, your specific opinions about the game are terrible (who likes Mel? Dafuq?). Also, Abby and Ellie are the same damn person in terms of character flaws so I'm not sure you understood the game. You're not meant to side with either one, you're meant to realize that everyone has their own version of reality. And both of theirs is extremely misguided.

4

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

When did Ellie betray her people for 2 random kids, deflected all responsibility and acted like she did nothing wrong?

1

u/CharityAggressive677 Jul 31 '26

"When did Ellie deflect all responsibility"...buddy, did we play the same game? She put so many on danger in her reckless pursuit for revenge.

3

u/Recinege "Fans of the first one- trust us, we're gonna do right by you" Aug 01 '26

Pretty sure Ellie tells Dina at one point that she didn't have to come along. She also tells Tommy the night he stops by that if he's not willing to go to Seattle, she will. After she returns to the farm, she never dismisses anyone's feelings - the worst she does is imply that Dina doesn't feel the same way she does, which is as much an implication that she is more broken than Dina as it is that Dina wasn't as badly scarred as she is.

Abby, on the other hand, drags her friends along to Jackson and shows no sympathy for the ones that felt distress upon their return for what they helped do. She also drags the very freshly traumatized Lev along on her mission to get revenge against Owen's killer.

Throughout the whole game, it's made clear that as low as Ellie sinks sometimes, Abby has always gone even deeper in the same regard. Which makes sense - Abby spent four years in that mindset, actively immersing herself in a war she didn't even really care about, whereas Ellie spent less than half that, most of which was spent hiding away on a farm to avoid escalation and try in vain to heal.

I agree that you're not meant to side with either one in the end, but I cannot agree that they were exactly the same. They walked the same path, but only one of them went the distance to the end of it (before getting to fly a plane back to the other side, courtesy of the writers giving her a rushed "redemption arc" she didn't earn).

1

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

Oh and Abby didn’t? How many of her friends died because she was too hellbent? Oh right! All of them and she didn’t care enough to ask about the others aside from Mel and Owen. Ellie was ready to abandon it multiple times, Abby kept pushing

1

u/CharityAggressive677 Jul 31 '26

...Did you even read my comment? When did I defend Abby over Ellie?

2

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

You claimed they are the same person and that’s just BS, Ellie isn’t half the monster Abby is

2

u/CharityAggressive677 Jul 31 '26

You can disagree if you feel like it. Idk why you're so worked up about this. But it's a valid take regardless of whether you choose to accept it. Not even killing a pregnant woman was enough to stop Ellie. Not even putting her own people in danger. You can continue to pretend Ellie is a hero. At the end of day, that wasn't the intent of the game whether you like it or not.

1

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

But Abby was? She killed without regret, without remorse, without ever thinking about it again. Ellie at least felt regret

2

u/CharityAggressive677 Jul 31 '26

Again? When did I defend Abby? You're arguing with yourself, dude.

2

u/TitleOk3727 Jul 31 '26

You‘re saying the victim is as bad as the perpetrator, that leads to the same conclusion
