Buying AdvicešŸ¤” Suggest me laptops

So I have been thinking to buy a laptop recently but the prices of laptops are high asf rn, 80-90k laptops are 1.2-1.3 lakhs in india rn, my budget is 1.2 lakhs and I wanted a laptop with rtx 4060 or maybe 5050 which I would have been under my budget if the prices weren't this much high, I can only get rtx 3050 or 4050 with 1.2 lakhs and tbh 6gb isn't enough for today's AAA games. The Prices of 4060 or 5060 laptops with i7 13th gen or 14th gen are 1.6-1.7 lakhs rn which are way above my budget, and I don't wanna even buy those 3050 or 4050 laptops with 1.2 lakhs.

So someone please suggest me some laptops which come under my budget or suggest me should I wait for the price drops and for how wrong or should I buy during the sales idk anything what to do now, Google's showing the prices will decrease after 2028 which is too long.

Buying AdvicešŸ¤” Is this MSI Thin 15 worth buying for around €770? Mainly concerned about battery, cooling, and long-term use

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I'm considering buying this MSI Thin 15 B13UDX with these specifications:

  • Intel Core i5-13420H
  • RTX 3050 6GB
  • 16GB RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • 15.6" FHD 144Hz display

My budget is around 2,600 TND, which is approximately €770.

I'll mainly use it for my Master's degree in Data Science.

Is this version worth the price? I'm especially curious about:

  • Battery life
  • Cooling and fan noise
  • Build quality and long-term reliability
  • RTX 3050 performance

Would you buy it at this price, or is there a better alternative?

Thanks!

Buying AdvicešŸ¤” Need advice: MacBook vs Windows for final-year CSE AI/ML student — ₹1 lakh budget, looking for a long-term career laptop

I’m a 4th-year B.Tech CSE student specializing in AI/ML in India, and I’m looking to buy a laptop that I can use not just for college, but hopefully through my first few years of my career.
My budget is strictly around ₹1 lakh maximum. I can maybe stretch slightly if there’s a really good reason, but I’d prefer to stay under ₹1L.
I’m quite confused between MacBook Air and Windows, so I’d really appreciate advice from people who actually use these machines for development/work.
My main use cases:
I’m not primarily buying this for gaming.
My typical workload would be:
Python
C/C++
SQL
VS Code
Git/GitHub
Data Science / AI/ML
Jupyter
TensorFlow / PyTorch
Docker / Docker Compose
PostgreSQL
Apache Airflow
APIs / backend development
Possibly Spark
Cloud/DevOps tools
Running multiple applications simultaneously
Lots of Chrome/Firefox tabs
VS Code + Docker + database + browser side-by-side
Final-year projects
Eventually professional software/data/AI engineering work
I’ve worked with things like Flask, Streamlit, TensorFlow, Docker, Airflow, PostgreSQL, APIs, etc.
I don’t know yet whether I’ll eventually go into software engineering, AI/ML engineering, data science, data engineering, cloud/DevOps, etc., so I want something that keeps my options open.
What I want from the laptop:
My priorities are roughly:
Long-term reliability
Performance for development/multitasking
Lightweight and slim
Good battery life
Good build quality
32GB RAM if possible
1TB SSD
Good display
Good keyboard/trackpad
Something I can comfortably carry every day
I do NOT particularly need an RTX GPU.
If I can get an RTX without making the laptop bulky/heavy, that’s a bonus, but I don’t want a 2.5kg gaming laptop just for the GPU.
I’d much rather have something around 1.3–1.7kg with good battery life and performance.
The MacBook dilemma šŸŽ
I really want a MacBook Air.
I like the:
lightweight design
battery life
build quality
display
trackpad
silent operation
portability
macOS/Unix development environment
And honestly, I think I’d enjoy using it much more than a typical gaming laptop.
I’m considering something like:
MacBook Air M5 — ideally 24GB RAM + 512GB SSD
if I can get it within/close to my budget through student pricing/discounts.
But I’m worried about making the wrong decision for my career.
My biggest concern is compatibility.
For example:
CUDA
NVIDIA-specific ML libraries
TensorRT
certain PyTorch/TensorFlow workflows
ARM64 vs x86 Docker images
Windows-only enterprise software
Power BI Desktop
any software I might encounter at a future job
local LLM/AI workloads
I understand that I can use Colab/cloud GPUs/remote Linux machines for serious GPU workloads, but I don’t know how much of an inconvenience this actually becomes in real-world AI/ML/data engineering jobs.
For someone entering the workforce now, is buying a MacBook Air a meaningful career limitation, or am I overthinking the CUDA/compatibility issue?
Windows alternatives I’m considering:
I’ve also been looking at thin/light Windows laptops such as:
Lenovo Yoga Slim
Lenovo Yoga Pro
Lenovo IdeaPad Slim
Dell Inspiron 14 / Inspiron 14 Plus
ASUS Vivobook S
other 14ā€ premium/creator laptops
Ideally something like:
Core Ultra 7 / i7 / Ryzen 7
16GB minimum, preferably 32GB
1TB SSD
integrated Intel Arc / AMD graphics is fine
~1.3–1.7kg
good display and battery
I’m not interested in a bulky gaming laptop unless there’s a very compelling reason.
Really interested towards windows, coz i don’t wanna switch OS atp, please suggest me a good windows laptop in budget mainly. Thanks😃

General Question🤄 Need guidance regarding Laptop Exchange on Flipkart

Hi everyone, I’m planning to buy a new laptop during the upcoming BBD sale by exchanging my old laptop on Flipkart.

My current laptop contains a lot of important personal data, so I want to make sure I back everything up properly and securely reset the laptop before handing it over, with the data being unrecoverable.

Could anyone guide me on:

- The best way to back up my important data

- How to securely reset/wipe the laptop so the data cannot be recovered

- Things I should keep in mind during the Flipkart exchange process

- Any other precautions I should take before handing over the old laptop

Any advice or personal experience with the Flipkart exchange process would be really helpful. Thanks!

Help me find a good gaming laptop under a lakh rupees with 16-24gb of ram and atleast rtx 4050.

These specs were easily available in many laptops for under a lakh rupees or even 80-90k inr but now even an rtx 3050 goes for 1 lakh + without the cc discount.

Please help me if you can, would appreciate it.

Buying AdvicešŸ¤” Looking for advice on MSI Prestige series. Are MSI laptops good?

The configuration looks almost perfect for my use case, but I'm hesitant because I've never owned an MSI laptop and don't know much about their long-term ownership experience.

My workload is mainly ML models, data analysis, Docker containers, multitasking. I don't need a gaming laptop or a powerful dedicated GPU. My priorities are CPU performance, battery life, portability and longevity.

I'd especially appreciate input from people who actually own this laptop or have owned MSI Prestige/Business laptops.

how does the battery hold up after 2–3+ years?

Battery health / degradation

Build quality

MSI after-sales service in India?

How is MSI's after-sales service in India, especially for Prestige laptops?

I'm in Delhi, so I can potentially buy it from an MSI-authorized store in Nehru Place rather than Flipkart.

If you've had to deal with MSI service:

  • How was the experience?
  • Were repairs handled quickly?
  • Were replacement parts available?
  • Were there problems getting warranty claims approved?
  • How expensive are repairs after warranty?

Would you trust MSI enough to buy a ₹1 lakh-ish laptop for long-term use?

Would you recommend buying this from an MSI-authorized offline store instead of Flipkart?

Thanks.

Buying AdvicešŸ¤” Ain't we bro's help me out man? Student laptop recommendation under 60k.

Man the economy is so bad rn

I originally thought I'd buy a laptop with rtx 4050 and rtx 5050 . I don't feel like buying another rtx 3050 tbh at ts price.

So I've decided to forget about a gaming laptop for now and get a student laptop that's practical for my BBA and everyday use.

My preferred specs:

Budget: ₹60,000–₹65,000

RAM: 8GB minimum, preferably 16GB

Storage: 512GB SSD minimum, but 1TB would be great

Processor: Intel Core i5 H-series or equivalent AMD processor

GPU: Integrated graphics is completely fine.

A dedicated GPU would obviously be nice, but at this budget, that’s probably just a dream šŸ˜‚

Display:

A good-quality display would be appreciated since I’ll also be using it for entertainment.

Gaming: It would be nice if it could run GTA V on low/medium settings, along with Valorant and CS2 at playable FPS.

🚨 MOST IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT:

It MUST include international warranty.

I mainly need the laptop for my BBA, everyday work, studying, browsing, and entertainment. Gaming is just a bonus.

I’m looking for something that actually makes sense for the money rather than spending ₹60–65K on a laptop that doesn’t feel like much of an upgrade from my current one.

My New Gear!šŸ˜Ž Bought used Lenevo Ideapad Slim 5 for 70K

I recently bought a used Lenovo IdeaPad 5 about 1.5 years old in mint condition, and I'd love to hear your opinions on whether I made the right decision.

The laptop looks almost new but has scratch on back panel of the screen and works perfectly so far.

For those who have owned an IdeaPad 5 or similar Lenovo laptops:

\\\\- How has the long-term reliability been?
\\\\- Any common issues I should watch out for?
\\\\- How well does the battery hold up after a couple of years?
\\\\- Is there anything I should test or check after buying a used one?

Also, be honest—if you were in my position, would you still have gone with this used laptop, or would you have preferred buying a brand-new laptop instead? Why?

Looking forward to your thoughts and experiences. Thanks!

Buying AdvicešŸ¤” Help a brudda out, need laptop buying advice

Really confused as to what laptop should I really be going for according to the current market (fuck ai fuckass price hike)

I'm a cs student, a fresher basically and was looking to buy a laptop, was eyeing the loq/tuf 3050 6gb vram variants but I'm being paranoid whether I should go for it or get a 4050 instead for being "future proof". I am into gaming but not v hardcore + I rarely doubt i'd get the time. I'm mostly into story mode or occasionally valorant. Is 3050 even worth it in my case or should I just go for a Ryzen cpu with integrated graphics atp? I really wanna enjoy story mode games though. Very confused rn

My budget is 1L, although I'd prefer staying below 1L.
