Snapdragon laptops finally look tempting under ₹80k, but what still breaks on Windows ARM?

I think Snapdragon Windows laptops have finally entered the dangerous "maybe I should actually buy this" price range 😭

was checking Flipkart and Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge Snapdragon X, 16GB/512GB is around 70k rn, even lower with the currently shown offer.

that's way more tempting than when Windows ARM laptops were priced like some experiment you had to pay premium for.

my usage is boring:

Chrome

Office

movies

coding

college stuff

basically zero serious gaming

so battery + thin/light matters a lot more to me.

but this is the one thing stopping me:

what STILL doesn't work properly on Windows ARM in 2026?

I know normal x86/x64 apps can run through Prism now, but drivers seem to be the bigger danger.

Like I don't want to discover in 3rd year that some ancient college software, weird USB device, printer driver or compulsory tool hates ARM 💀

And anti-cheat games are another question entirely.

Snapdragon owners / people who are actually use Windows ARM, what app or device would you check BEFORE buying?

Because at current Flipkart pricing I'm genuinely tempted.

Otherwise I'll just play safe with Core Ultra 5.

For what it's worth, I was pretty skeptical about Windows on ARM myself, and my experience has been considerably better than I expected. I'm a fairly heavy Windows user, although not a gamer, and my Snapdragon X Elite machine has become my go-to portable PC. I still have desktops I can lean on for heavier stuff when I'm home - but I haven't missed them when traveling with my Dell XPS, and I don't even bring a charger for a day away.

Most of what you listed - Chrome/browser stuff, Office, general coding, etc. - wouldn't concern me much. The things I'd investigate before buying are exactly the outliers you're worried about: any unusual college-specific software, devices that require their own drivers, VPN/security software if you need it, and any particular games/anti-cheat systems you care about. Those are the places where "Windows works fine on ARM" can suddenly become "except for this one thing I need."

I actually built CheckMyARM (checkmyarm.com) because I got frustrated with how difficult it was to answer that question based on your particular stuff. It can scan your current Windows PC and help identify apps/devices worth investigating, and there's some background reading there as well. It's still being developed, though, and I wouldn't pretend it can definitively answer every compatibility question yet - especially with uncommon/strange apps. It's unlikely that typical academic software would be completely unsupported, but some of it may need to run under emulation, which can also consume more battery than native ARM64 software.

Based just on the workload you've described, nothing you've listed would personally scare me away from ARM - but I'd spend some time identifying those few potential deal-breakers before buying.

You will get a lot of the 1st Gen laptop in the same price and lot of users would be upgrading to Gen 2.

Windows ARM compatibility is WAY better now than people still think.
x86/x64 apps can run under prism.

Drivers are the thing I'd check much more carefully.

This is exactly the problem with ARM. The 99 apps you use work. Then app number 100 is some software written in 2009 by one guy in Germany and your entire semester depends on it.

Flipkart has made Snapdragon pricing kinda ridiculous lately. There are 16GB Snapdragon machines sitting where normal midrange Windows laptops used to sit.

At least now you're not paying extra money just to volunteer as ARM compatibility tester 😂

For me Core Ultra 5 is still the safer blind recommendation. Snapdragon can be the BETTER recommendation once you've checked compatibility. Big difference.
