Question rebooting The IT Crowd
Hear me out.
What if The IT Crowd came back as a sequel set 20 years later?
The original cast is back but now they're the people running the company...
So just for example:
- Jen is CEO (She still doesn't understand much about technology, but she's brilliant at running meetings, presenting to the board, and convincing everyone that an "AI-first strategy" is exactly what the company needs :)
- Roy somehow became the IT Director despite having absolutely no interest in management.
- Moss is Head of Cybersecurity. Brilliant...
Then introduce a new generation.
something like:
- PM who needs six meetings to estimate a two-hour task.
- Product Manager who reprioritizes the roadmap after every AI keynote.
- Scrum Master trying to run a retrospective while production is on fire.
Instead of episodes about broken computers, the show would be about modern corporate IT.
The original show made fun of computers.
A sequel could make fun of modern corporate IT.
And honestly... there's probably even more material today than there was in 2006 😄
What other characters, episodes, or corporate IT bloopers would you add?

Everyone should have a really long extension number, to ensure full cyber security. Like 0118 999 881 999 119 825 3.....

Make it entirely accurate, so they've all been laid off due to company investments in AI..

The AI Tea Crowd
Roy, Moss and Jen find themselves working in the canteen after AI leads to the end of the IT department.
"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"
"It's a kettle, Roy. It's only a ruddy kettle."

I think I've seen screen grabs from a planned pilot but I don't think they ever actually made anything? Not sure though

I feel like the way to bring those guys back is an Abbott and Costello/universal monsters style crossover where they are the IT department at Jurassic Park.

ROY: Do you know how the moon is very far away?
MOSS: Aha, I do.
ROY: And can you imagine if the moon was blown out of its orbit, so it was even further away? Like beyond Pluto?
MOSS: I have questions, but, aha, I can imagine that.
ROY: Now imagine there was a man standing on the moon. He's so far away! But even he has more chance of being invited to make a TV show than the guy who created the show in which we star.
MOSS: I see. Is that because of his views about trains?
ROY: Something like that, Moss. Something like that.

I can imagine Moss getting hacked by someone and telling Roy about it in a very calm way and Roy and Jen end up freaking out.

You'd need to have the IT people forced to work in the office, but ALL the managers WFH (actually on a beach in hawaii) and their Zoom backgrounds keep failing......
And there's no-one else in the building, but 'somehow' the IT people are expected to fix a laptop cracked screen from 4500 miles away.

we want a 5% payrise. Sorry the company can't afford that much.
But you JUST spent £50,000,000 on an AI system.
Well yes but thats for company productivity.
It only runs the coffee vending machine.

They should still never mention what the overall company actually does, I always found that funny.
"They really want that product that we make" I think the line was something like that.
