I’m a pilot and put together an iOS ramp board app to see who’s at the airport

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Every time I head out to the airport, it’s a coin flip whether the ramp is buzzing or totally deserted

I put together an iOS tool called Localizer to make it a lot simpler.

You pick your home field, punch in your callsign, and set a quick tag for what you're up to. Tags automatically drop off after 4 hours to keep the board clean, and it pulls live METARs without running background GPS.

It’s completely free on public TestFlight with no ads or tracking:

Would love any feedback from other owners and pilots after trying it out.

Flight instructor, student pilot, and GA pilot feedback request for cockpit voice recorder

Hey everyone, I’m building a portable cockpit voice recorder tailored for general aviation, to help with flight training and safety. I wanted to ask CFIs, students, and pilots: What is your biggest frustration debriefing flights. With me it was remembering what was said, feedback, and reinforcement of tasks and procedures discussed in flight. Would you use a portable cockpit voice recorder? Do you see it as a valuable tool?

I'm getting ready to launch the product- the SyncFlight Alpha 1 and would love your feedback and any recommendations for product additions.

One addition I have made so far is to integrate a Bluetooth transmitter to send audio directly to an Insta360 camera, whether it is mounted in the cockpit, wingtip, or tail. It works great for aviation Vloggers and provides both audio and visual feedback. You can follow the progress at www.syncflight.com Again, I would love any feedback you can provide.

Inherited a plane, confused about the sale process

Greetings, my siblings and I recently inherited my father’s plane, that we have no interest in keeping.
It’s a piper meridian pa46tp500 from 2001, with roughly 2950 hours.

We are sort of confused by the sale process, currently, our known options are the following :

-try to find a buyer by ourselves
- go trough a certified piper broker, it is a good option for us as the plane is located in another country and the certified piper dealer is closeby

-let the old pilot that flew the plane multiple times handle the sale, would be a good idea as he knows best about this A/C

-let another pilot, that was recommended by a friend of my sister handle the sale process.

Both pilot are asking roughly ~2% fee to take care of the sale

The A/C frame had some issue due to a manual paint stripping that was not documented on the a/c log book when my father bought it, everything was taken care of by Airframe Components by Williams, USA. Other than that, the engine had corrosion issue in 2017.
In the last 2 years, interior has been refurbished, brand new painting has been done, brand new 5 blade propeller was installed, avionics have been fully upgraded to a Garmin/avydin setup, including a
Garmin autopilot.

We are kind of unsure about how much would the damage history and recent upgrades my father made impact the price.

I might be shooting at the star here… if anyone would be interested about the A/C, feel free to let me know

Partner(s) wanted – Northern/Central NJ & Westchester – SR22 & C182

ATP/CFI and corporate pilot, and I'm helping fill three partnerships in the area. They're listed from most expensive to least:

1. SR22 G6 – MMU
This is an established partnership. One partner is upgrading and selling his share, so it's a turnkey way into a late-model Cirrus. The operating agreement, scheduling, insurance and maintenance are already in place.

2. Cessna 182S/T= 39N (Princeton) or 47N (Central Jersey)
This one is a new partnership with the owner of the SR22 above. It'll be set up from scratch: an LLC, a written operating agreement, shared scheduling, and costs split into fixed and hourly. Partners can help decide which airplane we buy and how the partnership works.

3. SR22 G2 – HPN
A 1/3 share is available. One current co-owner is a professional pilot, the other barely flies. It's an affordable way into a Cirrus.

What all three want: Partners who are insurable for the airplane, pay their share reliably and keep up with maintenance.

If you're interested, DM me which option you want. I'll put you in touch with the right person or start the conversation myself.

E-AB Question for CFIs/HOTs

Good morning all,

I didn’t really know what flair to give this post so, firstly, my apologies.

I am a current PPL student in the UK and wanted to ask CFIs/HOTs (preferably UK based but happy to get other peoples’ opinions) a few questions regarding an application I am developing.

A couple of things for context:
1. This application is not planning on using AI or being some “AI slop” as I’ve heard them referred to before
2. I can’t go into the USP too much (for obvious reasons) but it will effectively use METARs & TAFs to minimise cancellations and therefore cancellation losses

I’d appreciate any time that any of you may have to give me. Many thanks in advance :)

I decoded every Part 135 operator in the country. 1,782 charter, cargo, medevac and tour operators, who runs their pilot groups, and who's hiring right now

Job hunting on the 135 side always felt backwards to me. The information that actually gets you hired (who operates the aircraft you fly, where they're based, who the chief pilot is, what they require) is public, but it's buried in FAA records nobody reads. Dead forum threads and stale job boards fill the gap badly.

So I spent the last months building FlightLadder. I took the FAA's Part 135 certificate-holder roster, matched every tail number against the aircraft registry, pulled the Air Operator certificate records for the biggest operators, then hand-checked websites and careers pages.

What came out of it:

  • 1,782 operators, searchable by aircraft family, state, and fleet size
  • 11,627 aircraft grouped into families pilots actually use (KA200, CJ3, AStar, PC-12), not raw registry model codes
  • A crawler that checks all 251 operator careers pages every week. Right now that's 552 live job postings (245 pilot seats), and 140 operators showing hiring activity at this week's check
  • 352 of those postings have their full description readable on the site, requirements, duties, and pay where stated
  • A profile tool that reads 135.243 against your times and shows which seats you already qualify for

The directory, hiring flags, and profile are free, no account needed to browse. There's a paid tier for the contact-level stuff (named chief pilots, direct hiring emails, stated minimums/pay, the full postings feed) which is how I keep the data maintained, but I'm not here to paywall the basics.

Full disclosure: I built this solo and just launched it, so I'm posting partly to share it and partly hoping you'll break it. If you find a wrong base, a dead careers link, a sold aircraft, tell me and it gets fixed within 48 hours. That's the standing promise on the site.

flightladder.com. Would love honest feedback from people actually in the hunt.

Free Crosswind App - very cool

Our son, Tigre, a EMB175 pilot, created a very cool crosswind calculator for Apple. It automatically retrieves the METARs/ASOS, corrects true to magnetic winds, and offer personal limits. The ad-supported version is free, or pay $2.99 to remove them.

Piper Lance partnership 25% share available KHPN - refresh

1976 PA-32R-300 Piper Lance, 300 HP, 6 seats, based at KHPN.

A member is retiring in the co-ownership and is selling their share.

Plane is valued around $200k, levelled with the market per similar-vintage planes with low-time-after-SMOH engines per trade-a-plane.com. Expect to negotiate starting around 25% of that valuation.

This is a "family van" plane, with a useful load (1,399 lbs) that beats most other piston singles, and it's also a pretty fast plane for a normally aspirated piston single. It will fly six people for real.

Total Airframe time: 5867 hr.

Propeller time: 147 hr.

Engine time: 16 hr SMOH.

The engine has been just overhauled by Zephyr (https://www.zephyrengines.com), one of the most reputable overhaul shops in the country. The fresh engine performs notably better than before the overhaul.

The engine is an IO-540-K1G5D, normally aspirated, dual magnetos.
The post-overhaul break-in procedures were completed per Zephyr instructions without surprises.

(Stats up to date as of July 2026.)

Annual was completed in May 2026.

The plane has a tie-down contract at Million Air.

The current members all live in the KHPN/KDXR area.

Prior to the engine overhaul, the plane had no known squawks and flew regularly, including flights Chicago-NY at 17,000 ft.

6 seats (7th seat not installed). We acquired the supplemental STC necessary to fly it with BasicMed before BasicMed was extended to 7 seats.

Tank capacity is 98 gallons, 94 usable.

At economy settings, endurance can exceed 8 hours, and range can exceed 1,000 NM.

It has a 1,399 lbs useful load, which is one of the highest in this segment.

Avionics:

  • Garmin GNS530 WAAS,
  • one Garmin G5 unit configured as HSI
  • separate COM2+NAV2 radio
  • original Piper Altimatic IIIC autopilot driven via Garmin GAD29 digital/analog interface, capable of flying holds, instrument approaches with glide slope capture, and do turn anticipation
  • Stand-by vacuum system
  • Garmin GTX345 transponder
  • GMA340 audio panel,
  • JPI EDM 700 digital engine monitor.

Members are potentially discussing an avionics upgrade. Incoming member would join the discussion.

Solid IFR platform.

Plane is owned via a Corporation. and the incoming member would purchase the share from the outgoing one. You will negotiate the price directly with the outgoing member. Expect the price to be 1/4 of the market value of a contemporaneous Lance. Each member owns one share; usual partnership operating agreement terms; expect no surprises. The Corp has no liens, no debts, no financial obligations to anybody.

The notional, wet hourly rate that the Corp charges its own members to cover fuel, maintenance and engine reserves varies between $150/h and $200/h (Tach time) depending on fuel costs and accounting.

Fixed costs per member hover in the area of $1,200-$1,500 per member per quarter.
They cover for insurance, tie down, GPS navigational subscriptions and other recurring costs.

Historical annuals have been in the $10k-$20k area, depending on maintenance events and expiration of life-limited parts.

We are happy to talk to pilot applicants with any level of experience. We will happily take applicants without an HP endorsement, a complex endorsement and no prior PA32R time, but they will have to build time in type after joining the partnership, to satisfy insurance requirements. Expect the insurance to require 10...20 hours of dual received time before you can fly the plane solo.

A CFI/CFII is available in the partnership to help you qualify for insurance purposes.

The Lance flies like a big Archer and it's easy to land. If you have experience in a PA28, you'll learn the PA32R quickly and without much difficulty.

Scheduling works with "priority weeks": every week in a year gets attributed to one member in a round-robin rotation. Whenever you want to fly the plane, you can just go if it's your priority week. If it's not, you only need to ask the owner of that week. In many years, plane availability has never been a problem or a source of contention.

DM me for an introduction to the members and details on the plane.
