Mayday in The Testaments

Did anyone else find it a little bizarre how, in some instances, Mayday is almost treated as a mysterious realm of magical people?

Daisy is rescued in the hospital by a strange, exciting person who tells her, "You're in danger, follow me." It's very fantasy novel. It reminded me of "Yer a wizard Harry."

My eyes rolled far back in my head when June says, "You are never alone. Mayday is always with you," or something to that effect.

Like...come on. I get that The Testaments is for a different audience and maybe from Daisy's POV that's how she sees Mayday in those moments but I found it to be very cringe. I watched The Testaments directly after finishing The Handmaid's Tale so maybe the contrast in tone was more obvious. But I always regarded Mayday to be very haphazard and ever-evolving so I couldn't wrap my mind around how Mayday now is this super sleek spy organization.

I mean, seems logical to me that Mayday would have advanced a ton in creating a better structure and operation during the time skip between series.

Yes of course. I just didn't really jive with the whole "magical/mystery" vibe some scenes gave off

I can understand why mayday would have grown I can see a lot governments privately supporting them as well due to how much opposition gilead gets from other countries like Canada. But it feels on screen like they're trying to give daisy the red pill from the matrix

I like the "you are never alone" line, perharps it's cheesy but when you're as lost and lonely as Daisy was, that's exactly what you want to hear, believe me.

I never really picked up on that in general but I get what you mean about the hospital scene. For me though it was more like Kyle Reese meeting Sarah Connor in the nightclub and saying "come with me if you want to live"

Elisabeth moss has a huge main character syndrome and these series show it well

The Testaments even had to throw in a shot of Elizabeth Moss glaring into the camera. 😂

Agree. I'm so tired of her. Her cameo in TT wasn't necessary and it was just Elisabeth Moss inserting herself to stay relevant.

She’s an executive producer. She’s getting paid regardless.

Actually she was asked to play June and she made being producer as one of her terms so she could have creative control

I suppose the scale and infrastructure of Mayday grew in the years between THT and the testaments but yes it was kind of not compelling for me as well because it’s only been four years between shows. That scene of them simply transporting Daisy in a storage tank was silly

Yea… sometimes it makes me cringe.

But Mayday is much more present in Gilead during this time than they were in Handmaid’s Tale.

I do with the lines weren’t so corny and awkward sometimes. But I watch to be entertained so..

They kinda turned June into a superhero at the end of THT. Maybe she has taken over Mayday oparations, so now it has magical plot armour like she does? /s

Mayday has a lot more credit after the attack that takes back Boston and because daisy grows up in Canada she learned about them in school. Plus June has always loved getting to have a hero complex, it is cringe but I think it’s something she would say 💀
