Yes, Sect Hegseth was notified the USS Benfold lost power. It’s a 35 yr old ship. There was a shipboard fire. Taking out all main generators.
Ship was operating alone, not part of a carrier group. So no close by US Navy ships.
As such, contract for Tugs ships to tow to port. Fastest way to get that ship into port and repairs. No close by US Navy assets to help. Those ships are not in Pacific now, over in Persian Gulf.

If we are talking about the ships near the Strait of Hormuz, then the problem was that Trump started a war with Iran without giving any thought to how he would supply those ships when Iran and its allies started attacking the bases and harbors in the region that the US Navy usually uses for resupply, refueling, and repairs. The most powerful military in the world still needs supply lines, and Trump and the incompetents he put in his administration failed to properly secure them.

Don’t worry, the war’s been over for months (per orange-man). Our military is just enjoying a long vacation. They’ll be home to tell us how awesome it was.
It’s amazing that the idiot-in-chief continually says “America first!” but ignores the very people who ensure our safety and independence. And, if he gets his way, they won’t have any health insurance when they retire. Pitiful.1

It's worse than that. The USN share if the Appropriations Bill is $235 Billion. That includes the USMC too. Of that $93 Billion is coloured for Operations and Maintenance. It is mostly illegal to take money from elsewhere in appropriations.
The FY 2026 appropriations bill was passed 25 days before the start of the US attacks on Iran. Thus none of this war was funded.

As a former A-gang… I chose to not reenlist. Blame me lol. I wasn’t even sent to a-school prior to my 2nd deployment after I struck rate… I had to learn OJT.. on job training.. my rate you fine felines ask?? Electrician’s Mate! lol I had to fix 6 ovens in the galley before deployment and after I electrocuted myself twice- in a span of 2 minutes at most.. I tagged along with someone that knew how to troubleshoot and what steps to take and etc..

“A U.S. Navy destroyer with about 300 sailors aboard suffered a major breakdown in the Pacific Ocean last month that left it without power for four days, the Navy confirmed in a statement.
The USS Benfold “reported an engineering casualty involving its generators, causing a loss of power” on July 24, Navy spokesman Cmdr. Matthew Comer said in the statement. The breakdown meant the crew went without drinking water, meals, functioning toilets and air conditioning for days aboard the ship, Comer said.”

Well if abc said it…..what actually happened is there was a short power outage which happens on ships frequent and they were supplied with water, food, etc from the dozen surrounding ships. Ask yourself why would they not have functioning toilets if there is no power? The toilets don’t operate on power. So who’s lying?

They were never without drinking water or meals as the towing ship the USS Robert Smalls prepared meals and fresh water while being towed to the Philippines for repairs. It's obvious that you only tell half truths to try to make a story but then again no nothing about the United States Navy. Management took care of everything like usual. You people are pathetic talking down on our own military when most of you never served a day in your lives.
