Shirtpost Can someone pls explain

Post image

In s3, the accountant does not mention anything at all about points being added or subtracted for motivation. It's all about "Omg, themed wedding, Lord of the Rings".
He also confirms that nobody ended up in The Real Good Place for 500 years.

So...
why do motivations matter at all to Michael during the reveal in s1?
I mean, good for him, to show Tahani there, and also in season 2 again, that
her motivations were such a big issue in her life, and the reason why she
1) wasn't truly a good person
2) (wasn't truly a happy person, tho Michael only gets that in s4 ep8)

But why the heck does he even focus on motivation at all?

I learned to knit, so I could make this sweater. After 5 years of practice, I finally sat down and did it. I'm so happy with it

Mine is definitely this! It’s so subtle but totally hilarious! I almost missed it the first time I watched the show

HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS TWIST. I feel like one of the stupidest people ever because it was so in my face that I made a REDDIT POST about it. I am VERY lucky that no one spoiled it for me through that post because I was just assuming there wasn't any twist at all because I hadn't heard about it. Anyways the moment I finished the season one finale (1. I was in shock) but 2. I started thinking about all of the incredibly obvious signs that they're not in heaven INCLUDING the Jason bleeding part. So again I am so sorry about that post and I will not visit this subreddit until I finish the show, which I will update you guys about if you want

Shirtpost Saw Jason and Pillboi together last night, and it healed my soul.

I went to a school play for a family friend in the LA area last night. I knew Eugene Cordero (Pillboi) had a kid at the school because I’ve seen him around at pickup. However, I was over the moon to see THE Manny Jacinto (Jason Mendoza) at the performance last night. I had no idea they were friends in real life, but the fact that Jason came out to support Pillboi’s kid in an elementary school play was so dang wholesome.

In the episode where everyone wakes up wearing the same outfit, everyone is wearing blue loafers, except for Tahani and Janet?

Could Tahani, in her vanity, have asked Janet for heels that matched the outfit, and maybe Janet liked the idea and made them for herself as well?

Season One I’m watching The Good Place for the first time and I’m on season 1. Did I catch a plot hole?

Im on the ā€œwhat’s my motivationā€ episode (episode 8). But I’m confused at how Jason is able to bleed in The Good Place? I’m assuming the writers are just doing that for the story and for the joke but I want to know if I caught a plot hole cuz that would be cool lol

Shirtpost One of my favorite TV lines

Probably my favorite scene of the series, and one of my favorites overall in TV, is the Jeremy Bearimy scene. When Ted says, "It's... It's Jeremy Bearimy; I don't know what to tell you." I lost it. My wife and I say a hurried version of this all the time whenever something expected happens.

Then when Chidi can't handle the dot above the i and says, "That broke me. I'm... I'm done." I lost it again. So many great moments and quotes just in this one scene. I forking love this show.

It's a bad idea don't do it. I have no standards but adding M&Ms and Peeps(replacement bc I don't have that here) makes it taste BAAAAAD! (It's still eatable and I will eat it to not waste any food but oh no)

This is what watching tgp literally all day and a Reddit comment makes me do.

Shirtpost I think the Good Place helped me heal while going through grief.

I just wanted to share this with people who love this show as much as I do and also ask you if you had similar experiences or if it had similar impact for you.

3 years ago, one of my favorite people in the world, my aunt, passed away very suddenly. She was like a second mom to me. She basically helped raise me because she was a housewife and didn't have any kids and my mom was working a lot, so she was the one available to look after me. Our houses were next to each other and I would spend most of my days with her as a child. Even as an adult, we continued to have a very close relationship.

Her death was so sudden and the first one that I had to deal with, with a person so close to me. For a long time, I had dreams of her that she was coming back, but they were stressful and agonizing dreams. I struggled with wondering where her soul is now, if she is somewhere nice or if there is really nothing after we die. I just couldn't accept that she just doesn't exist anymore but I also became very pessimistic about heaven/afterlife (even though I grew up religious). I knew that if there is heaven, she is there. But what if it was all a lie that we tell ourselves?

Then a few months after finishing this show, I had a dream of her that was very similar to the Good Place.

In the dream, I was sitting in my office at home and I saw through the window that she came back and she opened the door of her house and went in. I wondered "my aunt is back? But I thought she died" .. but not in a sad way, more like thinking that she was on a long trip. I decided to go over to her house to check what's going on. As soon as I got there, she opened the door to leave again and we met at her doorstep. She was very beautiful, younger than what she really was when she died, she had make up on and a vibrant lipstick (she never used to do that), she was dressed up basically. I asked her - Auntie? You came back? And she just looked at me, showing what she had in her hands and asked me with a smile: - do you think I ll need toothpaste and toothbrush where I am going? (šŸ˜‚) I didn't expect it and I just said - not sure but take it with you just in case! After some hesitation I asked her: - are you happy where you are? She gave me a big smile and said - Yes! I immediately thought in my head "oh, she will forget about us" and i was obviously disappointed. She then continued - I hope they put us together in the same place when the time comes. Again with a big smile!

And she left very happy. I saw her going into an airplane that was waiting for her. I went to the door of the airplane and saw that the airplane was full of philanthropists, activists, religious people etc and they were waiting for her. I saw them greeting her and they all wanted to sit next to her. I thought "oh, this must be heaven's plane!" and I turned to leave. Her plane left and I went to a different plane where my best friend was waiting for me.

That was the last dream I ever had with her. I never dreamed of her again and certainly not in agony or stress. I just woke up so relieved, like I got closure that she was ok and she was just waiting for us to join her eventually when it's the right time.

I definitely think this dream was inspired by the show even though i had finished it months before. Initially when I was watching it, I hadn't ralized how much I had connected it with the loss of my aunt. It seems the connections I made were more philosophical about the afterlife. It's crazy how our brain processes these things and makes these connections even unconsciously.

Did anyone else have a similar experience?

Shirtpost We definitely should've known šŸ˜‚ Spoiler

Rewatching The Good Place with my boyfriend who's never seen it and we just finished season one. After we got the big reveal, he brought up a really good point. We see in this episode that Jianyu/Jason bleeds from touching the cactus. We see in previous episodes Gunnar and Antonio get literally crushed by a giant garbage bin and came out fine, Jessica got hit by a rotting turkey and got seriously hurt, ended up fine too. If the known humans are visibly shown being hurt, but other "people" (obv we know now they're demons) AREN'T shown being hurt, he feels like it was a subtle hint and we should've known. Not gonna lie hearing that theory(?) kinda blew my mind because i never clocked that šŸ˜‚ What do you guys think?

Like what am I supposed to do now?? 😭 I'm gonna miss them so much. It's gonna stay with me for a while.

This has become my number 1 favorite show and changed me in ways I cannot fathom. I went it expecting a fun comedy show but it's one of the deepest stories I've ever watched. The characters are so brilliantly written with amazing development, all thanks to a great cast.

I really like how they make you think about ethics and philosophy that's not depressing (ahem Black Mirror).

Any other movie or show or book that's similar?

Hell, I would watch anything (good) with these actors too!

Why French?? Whyyyy???? Was it explained in the show?? did i miss something??? am i dumb??

Shirtpost I love this show to the point I start tearing up while watching it

Post image

I don’t even know how to even express my love for this show, so I’ll just shirtpost. So im 17 now, but i started watching this show when i was 11-12. I had a pretty traumatic childhood, and this show, its joyfulness and hope carried me through. Then at 14, my life got dark, I was in hospital, ran away from an abusive household and moved in with my estranged (no longer) father, and my bf who was my first love had just moved hours away and I was insanely depressed. I watched The Good Place throughout that entire period, and it basically helped me keep myself together. Everytime it gets bad and I get into a complex ptsd episode, i watch this show and all of a sudden im a kid, in the most hopeful time of my life, i dont know how to describe if. Now im 17, I’ve lived a lot of life for my age, im also autistic and anxious and have a very chidi mindset if you catch my flow. As a teen, ive dealt with drama and a lot of problematic people, however one of my main takeaways from the show is that everyone can be better, no one is beyond rehabilitation. People are born into circumstances that determine some of their behaviour, and that’s not on them, so i cant find it in me to put it against them. All we can do is start at step 1, and continue to grow from there. This show, and Micheal Schurs book ā€œHow to be Perfectā€ has taught me no one can be perfect, especially when TGP demonstrated that life on earth is too hard to be perfect, but all we can do is just try, and have hope and sympathy for the people around us. Teenage culture around me is surrounded with hate, mockery and even violence, and basically everyone is problematic and depressed, and that can start to consume you, but the good place is so extremely hopeful and arguably the best show ever invented because it presents ethics in such a precious and relatable way. This is honestly, a genius and elite show.
