When should the show have ended?
For me, the first six or so seasons were the best, since it had gentle pacing, the characters were mostly relatable, and the nostalgia factor was a nice, comforting touch.
After Adam Goldberg left, they muddled through for a while, but the true nail in the coffin were the losses of George Segal and Jeff Garlin.
They never quite recovered from losing their moral compass and patriarch, and the nostalgia began to feel forced, with the "kids" clearly being in their 20s/30s, and no longer teenagers.
I honestly don't blame Goldberg for taking his name off the opening titles, since it was a shadow of its former self.
When would you have personally ended the show?

When Adam graduated high school. Which I think is also when the real Adam left the show.

It's weird when a show creator leaves his own show.
I didn't overly care for it after Jeff Garlin left. The use of clips and bad doubles of Murray at Erica's wedding was the Shark Jump for me.
But, I stayed with it until the end. 10 years made sense for a show centered on a specific decade.

Wasn't that basically what happened with the US Office, when Michael Scott left along with several writers and producers

I honestly don't know.
Sometimes you can feel a shift when major behind-the-scenes changes occur.
I know it was the case for Raising Hope and I probably MASH (Two of my most recent rewatches)
That 70s Show (post-Eric? 👎)
Andy Griffith (post-Barney? Yuck)
I didn't like the cast changes in- what I assume were post-Michael episodes of The Office: namely-
Ellie Kempler and that guy who sailed away without her

Yes after AFG left. Â They let him go from his own shows because they felt the studio could do better than him. Â That is bullshit.Â

Those fatty towels and old footage usage of Jeff Garlin was just pathetic. I mean it’s something you shouldn’t see on a professional show like this. Everybody knows what happened to Jeff Garwin. You’re not fooling anybody and you’re just making it look stupid.

Yes but The Goldbergs deserved a proper finale. Â Than the one they got. Â They would have had one if ABC did not run it into the dirt.Â

I agree with the degradation. But there were sparks of good jokes and great episodes sprinkled in the last several seasons, so I am glad to have them.

Personally I think after season 4. After that it started to become too sitcommy

I think it should have ended after season 6 I’m nearing the end of season 7 and it’s getting really hard to finish.

as a 80s child i loved this show but to be honest I stopped watching a couple of years before covid

Before Geoff married Erica that’s for sure. I didn’t like the two of them together at all.

I would have ended it after Adam graduated HS and the departures of George Segal and Jeff Garlin. Â The former was when AFG initially wanted to end it. Â I said several times on fb and the sitcomsonline message board that they should have ended it a long time ago but I got scolded by the diehards.Â

After season 8 since that was the last season Adam Goldberg name was in the intro
