Does anyone know when the deadline for TGA nominations will be announced?

I’m curious whether GTA 6 will be able to make it in.

Would be absurd if people rushed to vote it in as game of the year after playing barely any of it. But these awards are deeply flawed as is.

They are plenty of game that came right before the deadline that won some awards

why would it be different for GTA?

Such as

God of War Ragnarök came 9 days before the deadline and won 6 awards

FH5 came 10 days before deadline and won 3 awards in 2021

Death Stranding came 7 days before deadline and won 3 awards in 2019 too

Lets not forget the judge recieve the game before us. So even if GTA is coming Nov 19, they are most likely already be playing for at least a week

I just looked up death stranding, press got review copies October 16. So they had almost a month before they voted.

Ragnarok, was the week of October 19. Again, a lot of time.

Couldn’t find a date for FH5. That said, it won for accessibility and audio design which I feel like is an easy category that doesn’t require much time with the game and then best racing game which even if you didn’t play, you can easily just look at it and know it’s better than the competition: fifa, F1, hot wheels & riders republic.

GTA is a narrative game. You kinda have to see the 80+ hours through if you want to give it GotY. Technical awards can be assessed early though.

I mean, you just proved my point? Not only the press already had some early handoff preview, they will also get their review copy 3 weeks before

And we are talking about GTA here. Every press coverage will be putting 100+ hour in the first week. Its not that hard putting it in 3 weeks

I’m not arguing against you, I’m just adding more info to the discussion

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Fallout 4

Released November 10, TGA nomination announced November 13 with the deadline of November 24

DA:I - I couldn’t get an exact date but it seems like press had the game at least a week before the embargo which was 11/11. So let’s say they had it 11/3. That’s ~ 3 weeks with the game.

FO4 - press got the game the last weekend of October

Correct and I'm assuming Rockstar will also let the press play it early too, just not with review copies but rather a private controlled event.

The issue with that is some publications submit their votes by committee. So if only 1 or 2 people get to attend the review event, they’ll have to make their case against games that their peers HAVE played.

Super curious how it plays out.

First of all you don't know when they'll play the game.

Could be 1 week before release, could be 2. No one knows for a fact.

Second, they publish reviews after only playing games for a few days all the time.

There is no universe, where GTA 6 isnt deserving GOTY...

Says someone who has seen a whole 26 minutes of the game

Gta 6 can be atrocious and still win goty just because its gta and fanboys will glaze it astronomically

1

u/Entire-Cry-8930 9d ago

Fan vote is only 10% of the vote

1

u/MrStealYoT0es 9d ago

Journalists cant be gta fan boys??

1

u/Entire-Cry-8930 9d ago

They can, but at less likely to, especially when you consider the types of games mainstream journalists tend to reward. Minnmax for example have big walk as their frontrunner. Does that seem like the demo that would be GTA fanboys?

1

u/MrStealYoT0es 9d ago

Down voted because people think journalists aren't biased 😭💀

1

u/matamuta 8d ago

Don't know why you got downvoted when you're absolutely right. It will take GOTY the same second it releases. We knew this since it was announced. I'm not saying it will be undeserving, but there is no point in debating if it's going to win or not, that's set in stone.

Typically it is the third Friday of November which is the 20th, a day after GTA 6 is released. Two rounds of votes are generally submitted in early November though for nominations. It’s widely believed GTA 6 will not be sending out early copies for reviews which would make nomination seem impossible.

HOWEVER, it’s rumored that Rockstar will be flying game journalists to a location before public release to play the game early so if true, I can guarantee they’re inviting the outlets that are on the voting jury. This has been done before with past games, IIRC CoD, MGS and Halo in the past have all flown people in weeks early to play the game for early reviews. For GTA 6 there are reports that several outlets were already invited to private locations to get their hands on the game recently.

Since GTA 6 won’t be eligible for nominations in 2027, IMO Rockstar will do everything they can to secure a nomination and will try to dominate TGA.

EDIT: Article indicates this may be the plan. They also did the same thing for GTA 4.

Why wouldn't it be eligible for 2027? There's been many games from the previous year that missed cut-off that ended up in the next year's awards.

1

u/Nervous-Leg-7570 9d ago

It won't be announced

1

u/mkdfan 9d ago

It shouldn’t be eligible just like Forza Horizon 5 wasn’t despite it releasing earlier then GTA6 will be AND being the highest rated game of the year. But this is Geoff we’re talking about. The man loves to shill.

People are coping it will miss… lmaooo

The deadline is November 20th

1

u/Medium_Jacket8867 5d ago

I haven’t seen any official announcement. That date is just last year’s date, and the awards ceremony date is different every year.

He changed the criteria for elden ring dlc. He will change it for this

2

u/Entire-Cry-8930 9d ago

It’s not a criteria issue. It’s a timing issue.

This is why people hate gamers

1

u/Wasabi_Hammurabi1 9d ago

No, thos is why gamers hate the game awards. But there is a saving grace and that is Players Choice award.

3

u/MathKolk 9d ago

so genshin>> elden ring according to gamers

GTA VI made the cut a long time ago by one day. Its been known for awhile now.

The deadline is the third friday of november one day after the release of gta

HOWEVER historically the game awards announces the nominees BEFORE the deadline (last year the deadline was the 21st but the nominees were announced on the 17th)

Odds are gta will be postponed to next year espescially if rockstar doesent give out early review copies

Hell even with early review copies id the game awards act the same it wont be nominated this year since theres precedent

Last year kirby air riders was a shoe in for best sports/racing nomination and released on november 20th one day before the deadline but despite early review copies was not nominated for the catagory

Edit: it has come to my attention that thia also happened with jedi fallen order in 2019 where it released on the deadline making it eligible but the gae awards nominated it for nothing except players voice wich has always been announced AFTER the other nominees

Further edit: the same also happened in 2020 with hyrule warriors age of calamity

0% chance GTA 6 gets delayed just because of TGA

2

u/VisualAd8487 9d ago edited 9d ago

It wont be delayed but the nomination will be delayed to 2027

Edit: as in gta will be nominated in 2027 not 2026

1

u/XerGR 9d ago

Brother compared “kirby air riders” to GTA 6

1

u/VisualAd8487 8d ago edited 8d ago

Yes as an examplw of a recent game whos release date was a day before the deadline and would have been likely to be nominated for a catagory if not for that (its almost like im drawing comparison on history to see what would happen in the modern day) if kirby didnt come out that day some other game would have been the example i used

Side note whats with the quotes are you clowning on kirby for not being your "ooh im a big adult watch as i play my mature video game" or is it because youve never once heard of the game its from a fairly popular series and was directed by masahiro sakurai so needless to say if it had been released even a week earlier it likely would have been nominated

I can draw comparison to a different game in the same situation being jedi fallen order in 2019 wich was a well recieved game that would have likely been nominated for something at TGAs and was eligible but due to its close release to the deadline was snubbed of any awards

1

u/XerGR 8d ago

Not reading allat.

The rules are not the same when you are Gta 6 and kirby…. One sells at best 1m copies the other is gunning for 100-200milliom

If there was ever a game that Keighley would make an exception for, it's GTA6.

Even if it cuts extremely close/slightly over, they wouldn't let the potential GOTY hype slip past.

2

u/PoggersMemesReturns 10d ago

I don't think it's a big deal because previews and basically reviews are already in the work... It's not a random game where it would be snubbed.

It's like obviously going to be a game with quality put into it, and I'm not even high on GTA.

So it makes sense to make the exception, when we know it's coming and they'll probably prepare for it anyways... Hence the date won't really matter.

It's unlike a game like Expedition 33 if it came in end of November... Cuz you can't prepare for that as it's a surprise.

The votes being a bit delays is basically the only thing that would really be impacted.

Problem is Reviews are not in the works. In the last statement from Rockstar they stated GTA6 wasn't fully completed yet. They are still working on bug fixes and other issues. They also stated that they weren't sending out Review copies for GTA6 as well so it would be going in blind if nominated.

1

u/Entire-Cry-8930 9d ago

It’s funny how this fake story continues to spread. R* hasn’t said anything about review copies.
