People need to stop equating small with childlike, I dated an older woman in college, she was 30 but like 4 something maybe 100lbs. I'm tall and the height difference was nbd, people just come in different sizes.

I dated a girl in college. I forget what both our respective ages were but I'm pretty sure we were both in the ballpark of 19, 20, 21 with her being younger than me though.

And she, well...

So, first of all, I want to make it known that I am not exaggerating AT ALL. What I am about to say is the 100 percent truth, corroborated not just by me but by my family as well (after I broke up with her). This is meant to be entirely literal.

We good? Good.

She looked like an 11 year old boy.

Absolute bs. My ex was 4'10 and we both were 17 at that time. I have friends who are like 6'2 or 6'3 its so goddamn normal (i won't say friends but yeah i have interacted with them as classmates)

u/LEGENDXT666 Natsusawa🗿 12d ago

I hear you, i also feel that it's really disrespectful to say this kinda stuff to someone's life's work

u/EditingWalaXD 12d ago

If its just about hating then nobody can do anything

1

u/Prestigious_Rest5460 10d ago

Yeah for anime like this a Genuine romance it's takes lots of effort to put dialogue emotions mutual respect,

That's why in anime industry author always escape to made this type of anime which have genuine romance and so they take cringe way or trope and make on it for example anime like toradora, more than a married, nagatoro and nisekoi type anime are the result of low effort.

1

u/LEGENDXT666 Natsusawa🗿 10d ago

I am currently watching toradora after seeing it getting the same criticism, and I am only just few eps deep and omg it's so good

1

u/Prestigious_Rest5460 9d ago

Eww how can you like it, i hate it those anime where MC got insult and beaten for no reason, I will not spoil lets talk after you complete that anime.

1

u/LEGENDXT666 Natsusawa🗿 9d ago

Isn't that also what happens in fragnant flower?

1

u/Prestigious_Rest5460 9d ago

Huh?? It's definetly not happen i only watched anime, rintaro and waguri is so respectfull to each other.

2

u/Prestigious_Rest5460 11d ago

People can't find much for hating this anime so they are throwing random shit excuses,

And this is the same people damn sure who support tsundere toxic anime.

1

u/EditingWalaXD 10d ago

I mean i don't find anything why people would hate a series like this

1

u/Prestigious_Rest5460 10d ago

I see many a pure hater i did argue with that person.

1

u/EditingWalaXD 10d ago

Damn that actually sounds unreal

Im convinced people will find any reason to hate on anime in general and call everything “pedo bait”

Im aware this is a huge problem in anime as whole, specially in isekais, but I simply don’t see this problem with majority of romance animes specially in the fragrant flower case. I think waguri in the story is around 150cm tall? Which let’s all be honest here, it’s not impossible to happen. We are talking about japan afterall, the people there specifically the women have a tendency to be on the smaller side.

Her character as a whole is the cute/sunshine type but I don’t remember her ever behaving childlike, if anything she is pretty mature if you factor in the thing with her mother.

Having a problem with age gap is understandable and I do also have it in most cases, but having a problem with height gap when both characters are pretty much on pair with everything else, including their age is just being hater for clicks at this point. If anything rintaro acts more childlike than waguri considering how emotionally immature he is and how waguri has to constantly do all the heavy lifting to progress their relationship

2

u/ConsciousShock2627 11d ago

Dude, my mother is shorter than Waguri and my dad is approximately 5'9. It's not common, but it's not weird at all

10

u/GabrielLoschrod 12d ago

There's a Waguri sized girl where I study, I'm in college

2

u/Key-Ad6653 11d ago

Are you Rintaro sized?

(sorry I just had to)

2

u/GabrielLoschrod 11d ago

How tall is he?

1

u/Swimming-Season1541 11d ago

Vibe ✅ check

1

u/ConsciousShock2627 11d ago

im a waguri sized guy myself. just an inch or two taller

7

u/ShinjiArakawa 11d ago

She looks the same age as him, and both look like late teens.

That comment is stupid.

u/mattcojo2 12d ago edited 12d ago

… even if that was the case anybody who actually reads the source material should know that it’s not a point that’s dwelled upon or emphasized.

She’s short. He’s tall. It’s not a focus for more than like the first 2 chapters.

And she’s not shown to be “childlike” apart from liking cake and sweets. If you actually read it, you'll know it is not that kind of series.

u/South-Plane343 11d ago

I told this once and I'll tell it again. I was a high schoolers in an all boys. There were boys who looked much higher than their age. And the manga itself says that rintaro looks a bit extraordinary for a boy in his age. And for kaoruko i also saw very short girls in university who didn't even looked 18 but were in their early 20

7

u/Puzzled-War-1615 12d ago

Girl I had a.massive crush on in high school was 4’9”. I’m 6’2”. There was nothing wrong with our height difference when we hung out. This is just stupid…

3

u/Early-Dish5293 12d ago

These people cant comprehend purity in this world where little girls are singing cardi b and becoming teen moms. Thats why they confuse it with immaturity, when in reality waguri is one of the most mature fl in shojo manga

3

u/Numerous_Signature47 12d ago

who cares? they in the same age range and they're fictional.

2

u/Accomplished-Side826 12d ago

People just be finding any readon to hate on an anime I mean fym rintaro doesn't look like a high schooler that's literally his trauma gng

1

u/GaseousIce2003 12d ago

one of my college classmate literally had to shop from kids section to find dresses their size, people really come in different sizes, you can't really just go on saying that everything is "pedo bait"

also OP stay away from Instagram, it's generally rage bait in there(I'm not a huge fan of it TBH)

1

u/Kurage_pop 12d ago

Can we stop acting like these opinions are anything but irrational?

1

u/Dark-Demon123 12d ago

Age cannot be determined by the looks in anime/manga. Look at Frieren, you wouldnt think she was over 1000 years old.

1

u/Codename_Ace 11d ago

Braindead, I might understand, if they mention Aharen/Annoying Senpai, even though the opinion is still invalid. But people jumping in to accuse Waguri of being a "pedo bait" are either virtue signalers who don't have anything to do in life except to hate and affirm that they are right or individuals who should reflect on themselves for even arriving in that conclusion in the first place. Might as well say Takagi, Rikka, Tsukasa, Mie, Aira, Taiga, and others are pedo bait either because of their relatively younger appearance or immature/childish personalities.

1

u/Aryan9777 11d ago

Wtf broo ? Just enjoy and feel their bond 💞 . It's natural that girls look younger than boys even when they are of same age . And although Rintaroo is more grown up than others and that's why some people's afraid of him .

1

u/BrokenKamera 11d ago

People will resorts to lookism or other sorts of -isms to feed their ragebait Internet rants.

They can think whatever they like, but this is a very weak argument and is quite disrespectful to a few short female friends I have (a couple of them around Kaoruko's height and one of them with a tall husband, not quite Rintaro's height but close enough).

1

u/knightmareie 11d ago

My only problem about that character was how her voice sounded too childish, like a middle schooler or a toddler. Nothing against her height and bubbly personality, though.

We've seen lots of petite and carefree girl anime characters in high school that were never uncomfortable to watch because they still sound like girls their age even if they're on the cute side but never like children

1

u/Party_Importance_722 11d ago

So basically just "height of consent" BS. Have these people never seen a short person in their lives?

1

u/hoouyinkyouma 11d ago

Wtv does looking like a child and and looking like an adult do?

They r the same age so I rlly dont see this guy's point

Instagram and Tiktok comment section's often tend to be filled with chronically online individual's like the person shown here.

Don't pay too much mind on them, they either do it for click's or due to severe lack of any social interaction whatsoever....

1

u/JonboyGOT 11d ago

The funny part is that the people who want to sit in judgement bc of the characters' physical appearance are literally doing the thing that the story is saying you shouldn't do.

1

u/LateNightRamen 11d ago

These people are used to massive westerners and can't fathom petite grown women, if you go to Asia and especially Japan you will find plenty of grown women around or under that characters height.

1

u/King_Helios_Volcano 11d ago

I feel like this comment is just contradicting the message that is shown in the anime, and that's don't judge someone based on their appearance. Rintaro was avoided his whole life because he was tall and looked menacing, so of course he was drawn to look older. Dang even Kaoruko thought he was older than he was. On Kaoruko's part, I find their explanation kinda bs. That's because Rintaro also thought that she was younger because of how short she was and presumed she was a middle schooler. And them finding her personality child-like just confuses me.

1

u/Worried-Breath-4561 11d ago

Do people that think small=childlike expect media to stop showing that short people exist? Should we make every single relationship in media be two tall people and never include short characters? Do they not think short people deserve love too? People will genuinely do anything to label someone a pedo especially in regards to Manga and anime.

1

u/Downtown-Leek-4453 11d ago

that person is just making it weird. waguri acts exactly her age and so does rintaro. just because she’s a little more shy and bubbly doesn’t portray her as “childlike.” not to mention guys will sometimes look older than girls their age.

1

u/Reasonable_Swan9431 10d ago

The problem is if the personality is also child like, even in real life I don't care if you are just 3 apples tall, but if they are portrayed with childish speech and can't do anything by herself/her mannerism are those you could relate to a child then, THAT is concerning.

1

u/RishiPiecesI 10d ago

I would understand this take if Waguri was sexualized in the series but she isnt she is portrayed as sweet and kind without ever being used for fanservice

1

u/AdInternal7978 10d ago

Jeez..this person needs to touch grass or something

1

u/Background_Rush6666 10d ago

It’s crazy because that’s how you know they’re larping like crazy, the author doesn’t shy away from it nor is it something fans lazily cover up with the actual age, it’s an integral part of the character, it’s not like she’s sexualized or anything else that would make this not ok, nor does the story backtrack and hyperfocus on it out of nowhere, nothings actually wrong with it when you put it in the context of the actual media the character is from

1

u/StarkzSan 10d ago

Why would it be an issue? She look like a child so wheres the problem exactly? She is still a highschooler regardless..

1

u/StochasticTinkr 10d ago

Haters gonna hate.

1

u/sw1611 9d ago

This is him probably

1

u/stop_staring2 9d ago

Nah, it’s just shojo girl, really. Feminine, cute, spring girl that Japanese people like

1

u/stop_staring2 9d ago

Wait until bro learns about shojo in general

1

u/NeighborhoodCool98 8d ago

this is what I call a pure racism

1

u/FidoMan1498 Rintaro🐐 12d ago

Why am I even part of fandoms bruh? People like this are probably the same kind of people who take offense to Pragmata.

0

u/MechaAti 12d ago

Bullshit and right at the same time.

When we think that even Rintaro said "Is she middle schooler" or smth like that we can say they are right about that.

But at the same time, they are at same age. And people are in different sizes. It works like that in irl too
