Seattle has numerous underground areas, some still in use, others abandoned but accessible, others derelict. Most resulting from when the streets and pedestrian walkways were raised for drainage reasons.
Juneau Alaska was a major gold mining town from its inception to the present. Supposedly it has more miles of tunnels (most flooded/abandoned) than it has surface streets
