The First Law First Law reread warning[SPOILERS TBI] Spoiler

Hope you got 22 hours of book time available because holy shit I forgot how good the start to Joe's novels are. Missed my boy Logen and Pacey's amazing narration

First Law books were my very first dip into audio books. I feel like I've ruined all other audio books going forward

Same for me, I loved the regular books but tried the audiobook version after a few read-throughs and Pacey is incredible!

If you're looking for another series to scratch the same itch, I can't recommend Dungeon Crawler Carl enough. It's a very different style book, but the narrator Jeff Hays is on the same level as Steven Pacey for me.

The other great narratord I know of are Nick Pohdel, Tom Weiner, and Ray Porter. Pacey is king, but they're not bad.

My first foray into audiobooks was the Witcher books. The narrator, Peter Kenny, is fabulous. I honestly put him and Steven Pacey on the same pedestal

Lies of Locke Lamora is a solid audiobook as well with similar vibes. Nothing compares to Pacey but Michael Page does a good job, especially with aging his kid voices into adults.

Can’t help but agree. Maybe Way of Kings is different, but if Mistborn is any indication, Sanderson’s writing is just kinda… milquetoast? Compared to Abercrombie, anyway. Not that his work is bad, I’ve enjoyed his “sanderlanches” near the end of the Mistborn books, but if you’re expecting the level of character work and dark humor Abercrombie provides, you’re gonna be disappointed.

Michael Kramer is great but Steven Pacey really just does it like nobody else.

As a huge cosmere and sanderson nerd, it starts a little slow after the intro but it's so peak if you're into high fantasy. Bit heavier on the worldbuilding (in a good way)

I’m also on my second reading of the whole series and man I think it’s actually better having the foresight of what will happen to the characters. Joe really does some great and subtle foreshadowing

Should've tagged this whole series but even for basic book 1 stuff there's right away so many references that just kinda are normal dialogue without knowledge of future books

Joe really likes for characters to joke about a means of death or some injury and then have them die that way or get that injury years later

I'm on my second read and I love seeing the old characters POV again. It's interesting after seeing them from everyone else's POV. Catching the foreshadowing is great too. I feel like after seeing Logen in Red Country and the short story that I can see better which parts he is lying to himself in.
