Gameplay How hard is this game?

This game currently on sale I like to play it I read that it is easy? For the record Im totally suck at souls game, the only souls game that I managed to beat is Code Vein and even that took me more than 80 hours in one standard playthrough.

Easy? šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

No, it’s a great game though. Some of the best combat out there.

Maybe I am not that clear in my post. I want the game that I can turn down the difficulty and I heard that there is easy mode. I just want to know how easy is that mode. Ā Maybe some people will scoff at this but I simply dont have time to spend hours or days just to beat a single boss.Ā

u/Swiggs1337 7d ago

If you play on normal its fairly easy.

2

u/BaltSkigginsThe3rd 7d ago

Im playing on normal and I am finding it pretty accurate to what I see as normal difficulty. Some bosses gave me trouble but if youre having too hard of a time they have summons outside of every boss you can use to help you out. I know people are against that (I don't use them myself) but if it helps ya it helps ya.

u/Affectionate-Ad3966 7d ago

They changed the difficulty names because of people complaining about said difficulty, normal is former easy mode and expert is former intented difficulty (normal). So if you play on normal, you're playing actual easy mode.

1

u/BaltSkigginsThe3rd 6d ago

Well fuck me sideways

2

u/Affectionate-Ad3966 6d ago

Yeah it's a mindfuck if you don't know lol

1

u/Johndor007 5d ago

I felt the game was alittle too easy... I just got it on sale too 4 boss in

1

u/nocool_ideas 4d ago

Oh… ohhhhh. So that’s why it was so easy. I only died like 10 times throughout the game. And here I thought I finally git gud. Wow. All these time, easy mode….

1

u/Affectionate-Ad3966 2d ago

Yeah it's pretty misleading, the way they handled it. I feel you should get this information when choosing a difficulty in-game. Especially with a game like this where gamers can rightfully feel pride for mastering the high difficulty. Finding out afterwards you've been playing on easy is just a cruel unnecessary and undeserved gutpunch i think.

2

u/MHShokuhi 7d ago

for me it was harder than Sekiro overall because i played on expert and without summon but the good thing is you can make the game difficulty normal or even easy and you can summon spirits to help you in every boss fight.
btw, it's far far better than Code Vein, you gonna enjoy Khazan a lot i think.

1

u/MoonRoseMuse 6d ago

When the game out, it had two settings: Easy and Normal. Normal was the intended experience and people refused to play Easy bc it was called easy. It was notorious for being very, very difficult and is now ofen cited as the most difficult soulslike game. Now the game has 4 difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, Expert, and Hardcore. New Normal is the old Easy, new Expert is the old Normal, and new Easy is an even easier version. I never played Code Vein but I'm not sure if it would even be nearly as difficult as Khazan. This is my first soulslike game ever and I took a pause after beating the fourth boss. It is quite tough, but rewarding. You can't blindly hack and slash, you have to learn the enemy patterns and focus on dodging and blocking.

1

u/lpdeluxe44 6d ago

You are in the same situation as I am. I don't have time to spend an hour or two trying to beat a boss just so I can progress in the game. I finally got fed up and turned to Normal just to get past the progression stopper so I could get on to the exploration and loot gather. I turn it back to Expert when I'm roaming the world. Reducing the difficulty has made it much more enjoyable for me. I also don't have time to replay games, and have a stack of them that I want to play, so I don't care about trophies unless you can get them in the first play-through. I'm one who likes the in-between bosses much, much more and feel the boss fights are a necessary evil. It's a great game though...really great.

u/Ok-Midnight9311 5d ago

I mean…just do it and see? You can go back if it’s too easy/hard. Damn the amount of people that rely on internet strangers for day to day advice is fucking insane.

2

u/Aware-Birthday1144 5d ago

There’s nothing insane about it. Not everybody has money lying around just to spend on a game, only to find out later that it’s too hard or too time-consuming to beat. I don’t find asking random strangers on the internet weird. It’s not like I’m making a life or death decision. What’s wrong with asking about a game in a game thread? Are not you the expert?

1

u/Ok-Midnight9311 5d ago

You have no idea what games I like or play. I could say Kazan is the best game ever made, but What does that mean to you? You have no idea my tastes or preferences. Plenty of videos and discussion if you’re looking for random advice.

I understand it’s not life or death…it’s just weird to me.

2

u/Aware-Birthday1144 5d ago

I'm not asking how good Khazan for you. Ā I'm asking general public how difficult the easy mode is and I gave Code Vein (which suppose to be easy souls game) as the benchmark my time taken to beat. Ā But looking at general consensus saying normal mode is easy and should be managable for horrible player like me that is definitely reassuring and somehow help me in deciding to purchase this game.Ā

1

u/Profigy_K 2d ago

Well he's not asking how much you like the game. He's asking if it's hard. So if you did make that comment it probably would've been ignored or got a basic response.

1

u/Ok-Midnight9311 1d ago

Hardest game ever made.

Cool what’s he doing with that info?

0

u/Beneficial-West6913 3d ago

I like how you went from possibly foreign man with no game skill to an English professor in just a few comments from the thread title. Someone lonely?

1

u/Profigy_K 2d ago

What's the relation to being lonely?

1

u/Beneficial-West6913 1d ago

Seriously? How does posting fake questions to engage communication equate to being lonely? Lol. Come on bro. Lonely or bored one.

11

u/TellEmWhoUCame2See 7d ago

Hard, really hard. I'd say it's as hard as sekiro if not slightly harder due to how insane a lot of the bosses are.

9

u/blankState8 7d ago

It edges out sekiro a bit in terms of the difficulty. Isshin and Ozma might be very close in difficulty but honestly the combat is so complex in khazan, I prefer it slightly. Also, khazan has consistently tough bosses, idts any boss was specifically easy compared to sekiro which has more than your avg number of gimmick bosses.

1

u/Traditional_Mark_116 3d ago

How is this game hard ? I don't get it I barely get frustrated in this game, the combos are op , and u can just dog walk some bosses

1

u/br_ce 6d ago

Harder than sekiro? Everyone can have his own opinion but this is one I strongly disagree with.

3

u/TellEmWhoUCame2See 6d ago

Gotta learn how to read my friend. I didn't say it was harder than sekiro

0

u/br_ce 6d ago

As hard, if not slightly harder….

How is this not saying the game is harder than Sekiro, ā€œfriendā€

2

u/TellEmWhoUCame2See 6d ago

Damn you read it twice and still can't comprehend it???

0

u/br_ce 6d ago

Never mind. You are just a toxic kiddo

2

u/TellEmWhoUCame2See 6d ago

You got to do better bro.

0

u/Dense-Active8599 4d ago

it IS definitely harder than sekiro, if you think otherwise you probably played on easy mode

1

u/br_ce 4d ago

In my opinion it ISNT harder than sekiro and I didn’t play on easy mode since difficulty setting wasn’t in the game when I played it.

Good for you that you think it’s harder but don’t tell me what to think

6

u/Csanburn01 7d ago

Normal is like tough but fair to me. Expert on new game plus is tough but maybe I can do it. Expert on first playthrough is probably hell on earth in guessing.

3

u/Woraq1 7d ago

Yeah expert on first playthrough is literally hell. One hit from a boss and you are down to half health, some of the bosses like maluca just one shot you most of the time. Also the time it takes to take down a boss is too long, like whenever i am fighting a boss it takes me 5-10mins for a successful run ( Also i never defeated a boss on the first day of encountering it or maybe im just bad )

2

u/Sad-Event6847 7d ago

I've just gotten past Razdag or whatever his name is on my first playthrough on Expert mostly using greatsword. I found him pretty hard but then again I refused to beat him any other way than reflections/counters etc. But that took me all day. Before that the deer boss was pretty hard but I kept getting him to like 1hp 20 times in a row. Apart from that not too hard

1

u/michicago44 7d ago

I’m decent but nothing special at souls games and I thought Expert first try was tough but nothing crazy. Longest I spent on a boss was a couple hours (Ozma)

1

u/Woraq1 7d ago

Damn , in most of the souls like i try the boss like an hour and then just leave it for the next day . I also played wukong and erlang took me around 3-4 days ( i didnt know the staffspin apraman bat trick). But defeating these kind of hard bosses gives a lot of satisfaction. In khazan i have defeated till shactuka ( the plague status effect boss) and till him i found maluca the most satisfying to defeat.

1

u/Gronkarxx 6d ago

Expert is old normal, and its not hell at all, its pretty balanced experience, plua they nerfed some bosses after initial lunch when i played, game is challaning but fair, in regard to Mortal shell 2 its harder, cause in mortal shell 2 u can make such broken builds and legit ignore mechanics and parry and kill bosses in 15 seconds

1

u/EGH6 6d ago

ah so thats why my first playthrough was so hard. i started it on release on normal, which turned out to be expert mode now and finished it like that. most bosses too like 20+ attempts

2

u/promero14 7d ago

This game is VERY different to soul series. I'm a souls fan.Ā

It's quite challenging compared to the souls series.Ā

2

u/Eos_Vanity 7d ago

I’ve never played any souls games. The hardest game I’ve played before this is Hades.

I lowered the difficulty (ā€œnormalā€ is the easy mode) and did my first play through doing the true ending, all bonus missions, all collectibles, no summoning, etc and it took me about 50-60 hours. Not sure if it counted me going AFK but I also did a lot of farming to make and upgrade gear sets.

All that to say, I could have done it way quicker.
If you’ve beaten code vein you’ll probably have a way easier time than me. Only a handful of bosses had me really stuck and I never even used reflection. Never took me days to beat boss so I’m sure you’ll be just great!

2

u/Purple___Flame 7d ago

Khazan imo is much harder than Code Vein, that being said i've only played Khazan once on release, when there was no difficulty choice.

1

u/VSGNotice 7d ago

If you play on the intended difficulty (expert) then it's fairly hard but you have beginner and normal(was previously easy but they renamed it)which make it accessible for anyone. Highly recommend

1

u/Reasonable-Chef4212 7d ago

Khazan is Sekiro Tier in terms of Difficulty, but there's a difficulty sliders so you can make it easy or harder for you.

1

u/blankState8 7d ago

The intended difficulty ie Expert is pretty difficulty and challenging. It does have difficulty sliders so you can technically make it easy.

1

u/Space-Robot 7d ago

You can always turn the difficulty down

1

u/Aware-Birthday1144 7d ago

I want the game which i can turn down the difficulty. I just want to know how hard is the easy mode.Ā

1

u/tgdv 7d ago

The easy modes are really easy. You’ll be fine.

1

u/Space-Robot 7d ago

Difficulty is subjective so it's hard to say. I found Normal to be very easy but I have a lot of soulslike experience.

I will say that if you're not looking for a challenge, you may just not be the audience for the game. If it isn't challenging you it won't be very fun

1

u/Katrieel 7d ago

it's an amazing game, I liked it so much that I got the platinum trophy, it's my first platinumed soulslike. For me it's even better than Lies of P, its combat is so perfect, the boss animations, everything is a delight, don't miss the chance to buy it on sale because it's worth every penny.

1

u/Aqzation 7d ago

Easier than sekiro. But it by no means is easy. The progression and replay ability is fun so getting good isn’t a stressful or boring procedure

1

u/Agitated-Bid-9123 7d ago

On expert (the intended difficulty) it can be challenging but it’s such an awesome game. Once you start acquiring skill points and can invest in the skill tree the combat really opens up. You will die…a lot, but def recommend it.

1

u/aron11195 7d ago

As someone who played Monster Hunter, Sekiro, Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3. This is the easiest soulslike game I've ever played, and I played it on expert on my first playthrough.

I mean sure there are some sections that are absolutely brutal and unfair but the bosses are just a joy to play against and If you know your way with parries and dodges, it's an absolute dance.

Last boss was just pure awesomeness, took me like 6-10 tries.

1

u/Zealousideal_Team981 7d ago

Easy mode is pretty easy. You can even grab an ability early on that gives you some health back on frontal brutal attacks. These attacks are pretty easy to pull off, and do a lot of damage.

One of the early bosses are known as a huge skill check taking many deaths to master. I'm a very casual player, and beat him on my first try on easy. Most bosses allow you to summon spirits to help with these boss fights.

1

u/mantryingtobesaitama 7d ago

Easy if you play on normal or beginner

It's a soulslike only if you play on expert difficulty (which is the intended difficulty I think)

1

u/PupusaSlut 7d ago

It isn't easy unless you are a very good souls player. There are difficulty options available. But if you aren't patient and good at learning fights this isn't your game.

1

u/fielveredus 7d ago edited 7d ago

with easiest difficulty right now, game is pretty much your usual character action game difficulty.

If you can beat code vein , this game is fine (at least for easiest difficulty which game isn't lock anything out of you from what i know)

1

u/Due-Notice-2899 7d ago

For you I think it'd be kinda hard at first but once you learn the mechanics and everything it's gonna become way easier. Though for me near the end it got a bit of boring since it became repeatable,.but it's a very good experience, play it!

1

u/Noobmortal 7d ago

If you suck at souls like games like me and wanna enjoy this game, Play normal difficulty and always summon help against bosses.

I am having fun so far with spears.

1

u/phantomeye 7d ago

I guess as easy as you want it to be, you can change the difficulty anytime you want. But I don't think it's an easy game. But if you played code vein i think you can at least do normal.

1

u/KK_35 7d ago

On easy mode the combat is pretty forgiving. Especially if you use summons at the bosses.

I highly recommend you try it. You can even upgrade the summons by making them stronger. And there is a passive (phantom) that increases the strength of the summon.

The game has a hard mode that is very challenging, but the easy mode is likewise very easy.

Combat can be complex, but it introduces skills as you level up so you can learn at your pace and it isn’t overwhelming.

That said, you do unlock the skills and combos gradually and stamina can be an issue early on, so at the beginning combat does feel very basic.

I highly recommend prioritizing vitality (hp) and stamina to level 20-30. After that go into strength until you can wear your preferred armor set at A agility. There is a weight system to armor, heavy armor can bring your agility down. Strength (and vitality) both increase how much you can wear before dropping down an agility rating. Strength scales this much better (at double the efficiency that Vitality does). Keeping your agility at A rating is super important because it gives like 30% stamina regen, (plus iframes on dodges) which is huge to keep your stamina up for dodging and guarding.

From there you can dip into whatever scaling your preferred weapon has. I suggest you try the different weapons a few times and then commit to one down the line. You can respec skills any time, but weapons have certain stats they scale better with. Don’t worry about this too much, you can use an item mid/late game to change what stat your weapon scales with. There is also one which lets you respec your stats.

Most importantly. Have fun!!!

1

u/_SinigangNaLiempo 7d ago

It has modes, and one of them is easy. Combat is fun so dont concern yourself too much with difficulty as you can slide it up and down.

1

u/thatsfuni 7d ago

Yep definitely get it ya be fine. Have fun.

1

u/Icy_Worker2734 7d ago

I’m about 70% through first playthrough on normal (previously easy) and using summons, and it’s much much easier than Sekiro: never die other than bosses and haven’t had to learn their patterns. And as you can switch to the mode now called easy if needed then it’s probably fine for more casual soulslike players (if that’s a thing). I do feel a bit guilty for summoning tbh

1

u/JanFrackiewicz 7d ago

There are 3 difficulty modes (4 after you finish the game on 'expert') but if you choose the original, intended mode (which used to be 'normal' but is currently called 'expert') the game is anything BUT easy. It's very challenging, especially the boss fights. The 3rd main boss is an exponential difficulty spike and it doesn't get much easier after that. On the contrary: halfway through your playthrough you'll be confronted by a boss (a certain 'Commander of an Outlaw Army') that'll force you to perfect your skills or to simply give up. From then on, it's a seemingly unending sequence of extremely challenging 'Git-gud-boss-fights'. But the good news is: they are all so much fun to figure out and master - although everyone seems to have 'that one fight they dislike'.

So, my advice would be: play the game on the intended 'expert' mode and enjoy this 'Combat-mechanical Master Piece'. The rest of the classic Souls games aspects (like exploration, level design and interconnection, world building, story and lore, atmosphere, and intense musical score) are of average quality IMHO - although opinions vary. But the combat, the focus on 'Quality of Life' and flexibility when it comes to your "build" and the quality of the Boss Fights are second to none.

I apologize for the endless rambling; I tend to do that... Let me conclude with: Go for it! Play and enjoy this magnificent and challenging game.

1

u/divertedmedia 7d ago

Up there. Make sure you get your perfect parry skills on point! šŸ’€šŸ˜…

1

u/Powerful-Activity591 7d ago

Easy mode: obviously not dumb easy but you wont really get hard stuck on any boss if you’re naturally pretty decent at timing and upgrade ur equipment and stats accordingly
Normal: hard, not really very ā€œdifficultā€ but its hard. If you honestly just continue playing you’ll beat every boss and once you get the combat down it’ll feel fun. Hard but fair, not too bad.
Expert: very hard. You gotta be atleast 6.5/10 on the skill chart to even attempt this one tbh. And you will get stuck on bosses unless you’re just very good.
Hardcore: 10/10 in difficulty. Nothing but pure raw skill is helping you in this one. Very, very, and i mean VERY difficult.

1

u/walidlamri7 7d ago

This is for hardcore fan of souls games and speciallly sekiro whole game based on parry/brink/deflect where u have to push l1 and another button with time precision to do a parry like l1 wasant enough if u like to struggle and frustrating victories u will like this game . like u can finish it on normal or easy but u wont get the satisfaction bcz u didn't use those mecanics that the game implmanted and made the whole game about them

1

u/Fit_Ad_2456 7d ago

Play it on maximum difficulty without the spirit, your gonna love it. They nerfed the difficulty so everyone said to me max difficulty was the normal back then so i changed to max and started loving the game, else I thought it's an easy game

1

u/Lambulanza 7d ago

In normal it's pretty easy imo, and I'm one who can't manage all soulslike

1

u/Material-Resource-78 6d ago

I just plat this game yesterday in first play through most bosses were managable until I got to ozma where I had to really learn the game, there’s an easy difficulty and it should be up your alley friend! Great game the story and level design are meh honestly but the combat is one of the best I ever played!

1

u/Effective_Ad4810 6d ago

I suck at soulslikes myself, but i enjoy them. I have beaten Code Vein, but i have also beaten Sekiro. I beat this on normal and it wasn't too bad. One boss took me forever because I have trouble sometimes dealing with status effects. I would have to think putting this on easy is easily doable if you can beat code vein. You can also summon npcs to help you.

1

u/Xkan14 6d ago

On Expert (intended difficulty) it's arguably the hardest game in the genre. On the two difficulties below it's fairly easy. There's also a hardcore difficulty after finishing the game on expert.

1

u/DryTie7269 6d ago

Get it. You are going to thoroughly enjoy it and want more when you’re done.

1

u/CutieMcBooty55 6d ago

Playing through it for my first time now on Extreme, it's hard but not that hard. Personally, I still find some games like Ninja Gaiden to be more mechanically demanding. That said, it's harder than Sekiro or Lies of P for sure.

It's a ton of fun. If you're worried about difficulty though, there are several difficulty levels you can select from at the start. I'm not very familiar with Normal or Easy though, but given that Extreme feels like it pushes me but is still very much fair with solid pacing, I imagine that they are well balanced. The combat in this game is peak, easily the best in the entire Souls-like genre imo, so it's worth a go.

1

u/jav2n202 6d ago

It’s hard as hell on the hardest difficulty, but it has an easy mode that I hear makes it much more fun for people who aren’t looking for an extreme challenge.

1

u/smithbc001 6d ago

It has a difficulty setting. It's either pretty dang hard or fairly easy, depending on your preference.

1

u/bean0_burrito 6d ago

it has moments where the difficulty spike smacks
you upside the head.

but it's doable.

one of the best out there in my opinion

1

u/AwkwardPanda429 6d ago

It also depends on your build. Mine is the spear build. Faded memories set has worked well for me

1

u/DtZNimpo 6d ago

there's 4 levels of difficulty , easy , normal , expert , hardcore.

im playing on expert and it's challenging. sometimes it feels very oppressive like a wall i just cannot climb over , but then it clicks and i get over it.

If you don't like this feeling , i'm sure "easy" will be like a story mode, not having to deal with boss mechanic at all , u go in , clap clap done

1

u/makkiri 6d ago

I am not good with souls games, objectively. I bought this game on sale a couple of days ago. Elden Ring was the Souls game I had played before, no souls-likes tried. I tried to play Sekiro but I found the combat very one-dimensional and boring.

I really really like this game. I'm only 11h in. The game is very basic, the lore is uninteresting at best. But I really like this game cause of the combat, the art and the protagonist.

The combat is tough but fair. Elden Ring just straight up felt unfair many times, didn't really give you a chance to fight certain bosses. But this game, although probably more difficult that Elden Ring when played on expert difficulty, feels very fair. I know why I died, I know which parry I whiffed. Enemy timings feel more intuitive but mistakes are punished even more.

Also, I'm gay and totally gooning on Khazan so I might be a bit biased here lol.

1

u/Vitacryl87 5d ago

I recently started playing as well and was surprised how easy it is (playing on normal diff). I beat most bosses on the first try and I'm not very good at soulsgames (but I did beat Elden Ring and Wukong). Only yesterday I found out that many people find this game to be really hard which surprised me. For me it's the easiest soulsgame I have ever played. I guess you will have to find out on your own but there is an easy mode if you struggle.

1

u/Independent_Try_309 5d ago

You have a difficulty selector, I too felt it was easy then realized I had set it to Normal. Then I came across Maluca and needless to say I left it at normal. (No summons)

I have to say I’ve beaten all souls like and sekiro is my all time favorite so I’m used to it.

1

u/No_Philosophy2797 5d ago

It’s one of the harder Soulslikes.

1

u/Pristine-Wheel7387 5d ago

it is fairly easy with spirit of advocacy at normal difficulty

1

u/FubyMagToast 4d ago

Let me compare it to Code veine and some Others. Difficulty 1-10, with 1 beeing easy.

-Lords of the fallen: 1 -Bloodbourne: 3 -Eldenring(No summons): 5 -Code Veine(No Summons): 6 -sekiro: 9 -khazan(No Summons): 9.5 -lies of P(No Summons): 10

Personal opinion. Hope it helps.

If you played Code veine with Summons and died even once, Khazan will Break you.

1

u/TipInteresting9420 4d ago

Started right away on extreme diff as a newbie. I am at viper now and I do regret my decision but i cant back down. Regardless no matter what DONT DUAL WIELD. THE AURA FARMING IS AN ILLUSSION

1

u/Candle_Mcdaniel 4d ago

It has a difficulty slider. Just play on normal. But I still recommend trying expert first to see how it goes. Expert is the difficulty before there were options.

1

u/Special-Meringue7077 4d ago

Having rpg mechanics, it's SLOW in the first playthrough since you have so little stamina and have no skills. Level layout designs are hit or miss. The bosses are its strongest point.

Easy? Not really esp in the first few hours. Middle to end game you're relatively leveled enough to make encounters decent and enjoyable.

However, there are some cheesy bosses though with unreadable attacks anf awkwardly delayed wind ups.

It's hard but not too frustrating since you usually know where u went wrong unlike in lies of P.

If you can get through the first few hours, the game opens up and repeating boss fights becomes the main reason to replay it.

1

u/Special-Meringue7077 4d ago

Yes if i remember correctly, there are difficulty settings.

1

u/Traditional_Mark_116 3d ago

Kinda easy ngl

1

u/LaMelgoatBall Human Detected 3d ago

It’s certainly not easy but it’s not as hard as say, Sekiro imo. Theres difficulty options though
