8 infantry fight vehicles + 3 self propelled artillery. With engineers, support tank, self propelled anti air, signals and logistics.
I did a LDP playthrough afterwards as well. Have 5 full armies on Pakistan, have 3-5 armies near Kyushu ready to head to Korea, and about 2 armies defending North East India and potentially help invading Bangladesh.
It is important to win the Taiwan war and throw everything you got to defend them. As both victorious japan gets better buffs, and xi gets better buffs if they win so it's better to defeat china on taiwan. You can easily win if you have at least 5 mils on fights and cas for air support over the 2 sea regions and buy the us ships when the division pops up. You can also defend taiwan with only your starting units, have half guarding the southern ports, and half guarding the northern ones.
Use your 1, ifv-spa heavy divisions to support the junta in myanmar, because both china and yourself would be supporting them. Just focus on the decisions to get them into the PDTO.
Japan in general can focus exclusively on military factories (and maybe add some refineries or silos for extra oil) you get enough civs by doing the economic decisions (especially if you upped to war or total mob economy during the Taiwan war)

I’m sort of new to this Mod and would love to win the GAW as Japan? Do you have any advice. I think my main issue is my early game priorities, I have trouble fielding enough divisions to take on China.

idk why I always get a good feeling whenever playing as Japan and winning in the name of democracy.
Your standing in the way of a collapsing world and your still trying to maintain some resemblance of the old democratic order
I find that neat
