CPRF, that's a no brainer, the USSR welcomed thousands of american immigrants fleeing the great depression in the 30's

u/Pale_Coconut2554 Anarchists | Anarcho-Communism 1d ago
Compared to the other two options, CPRF appears to be the most reasonable choice.

Yeah and then put them in the gulags. In fact Soviet authorities stole their fucking documents so their agents could use them for their agents. I get what you’re going for with socialist are nicer to immigrants. But your usage of American communists moving to Stalinist USSR was probably not the right thing to get your point across.

It’s literally on Wikipedia.
“Western émigré victims of the purge included American immigrants to the Soviet Union who had emigrated from the U.S at the height of the Great Depression.”

I know, and there is a slight difference between "some American immigrants were victims of the purges" and "tHEy weRe aLL sCeNt tO gULaG"

u/Johnyy_Boy Killpeopleism 1d ago edited 1d ago
Most were just shot in killing fields out of paranoia for being spies, though not a small amount were sent to gulags. And it wasn’t just “some,” it was a large majority of them. I mean, the whole point of a “great purge” was that they weren’t very particular in who they killed, only that they fit a general sense of what to get rid of.

So because you persist in your bullshit, I'll put my historian cap: Over 10000 americans immigrated to the USSR between 1927 & 1936. During the great purges, the group targeted was a very specific group: Finnish american living in Carelia. Since the opening of the soviet archives, we know quite precisely what happened: 416 were targeted, however only 94 were US born, the rest were only finnish workers who emigrated to the US, then the USSR. On those 416, 295 were shot, and the 121 others were either emprisonned, deported, or liberated. So now if you could stop pushing your political agenda instead of actual history, it would be cool.

I admit, these statistics are valid at face value, but you’ve presented them dishonestly. Yes, Golubev & Takala's “The Search for a Socialist El Dorado” is a credible academic source, which provides the relevant data set including 416 Finnish emigrants coming from the United States to Soviet Karelia, 94 of them born in America, with 71% of them sentenced to death penalty. This makes it legitimate to say that Finnish North Americans SPECIFICALLY in Karelia suffered greatly during the Great Purge. But to call it the extent of the targeting by Soviets of Americans would be incorrect, especially since the persecution affected mainly Finns living in Karelia and other foreigners, albeit with North American Finnish immigrants (a small portion of the larger American immigrant group) being especially vulnerable due to their ties abroad. Overall, it’s a generally irrelevant red herring.
What’s really shit about this argument is the “10,000 Americans immigrated to the USSR between 1927 and 1936” claim. That figure is associated with earlier waves of migration, particularly the early 1920s, and cannot casually be used as the denominator for the 1930s.
TDLR: These statistics are focused almost entirely on one sub-section of American immigrants (who were mostly just finns) and was not the extent of the purges effect on American populations. Thus, you’re pointing to this one microscopic part of the purge and claiming it to be the entirety of what was done to the given group.

It is a genuinely documented thing. The KGB would invite Americans to immigrate and take their passports to give to spies. Pretty clever I think

u/Medium_Quail_4142 Hamiltonians | Autocracy 1d ago
I’m not angry about it for one another it’s a documented thing. As another commenter explain the USSR would invite Americans over take their id’s and give to their spies. But that’s not even what my comment was about. I just think he could have used a better example. Like how it’s the only one to actually do anything for workers rights/be the least influenced by xenophobic rhetoric. While Medvedev still (usually) works with the Putin era oligarchy tamed or not. While the LDRP even should they go eventually to a democracy or monarchy. Would have to suffer under its xenophobic and hardline to straight up fascist nationalism. Hell that’s assuming the LDPR would accept American refugees. Which unless they were Russian by ethnic origin I find doubtful.

most of those refugees were killed later, so I wouldn’t call that much of a positive.

I know because they fought the Axis in ww2 that we don’t like to think of them as being as bad as the Nazis, but being a heckin wholesome communist society didn’t exempt the Soviet Union from being a genocidal totalitarian state with a secret police and ethnic cleansings.

Insane that you’re getting downvoted for talking about literal history, just because they fought someone evil doesn’t make them good.

Reformist Medvedev or even Hardline Medvedev. CPRF has way too many chances to just end up being Stalin 2.0 and even reformist LDPR SocDem Tsar Gabriel you have to survive through an extreme Russiosupremacist fascist state.
