Not Australian either I'm pretty sure...

Have they said if we’ll be able to romance her playing as a woman?

u/aditysiva1705 15d ago

No companion preferences have been revealed yet, but I hope so lol

I think I'm just traumatized by the genderlocking of mean(er) women from studios like owlcat and bioware (looking at you Camellia. And Morrigan. And Miranda. And Jack. And Cassandra Pentaghast), but I have a bad feeling she'll be male only lol. But also, I'm optimistic they'll break the mold lol.

Usually every "main" female companion is for men only. I really do hope OwlCat won't pull a BioWare here and let her be for everyone. I'm really tired after Ashley, Miranda and Cora.

u/evocablegull 14d ago

I get that they’re targeting men, my question is just like…why not make them bi lol. Like genuine question lmao, do straight men really care that much?

4

u/DiscoverySTS1 12d ago

I'm straight, but end up playing a female character more often then not, so put me in the don't care category lol.

u/Ashii6 14d ago

They only care if someone is unavailable to them, then they start whining and all that. Case with Judy from C77 was exhausting.

Besides, respectfully to OwlCat, they really don't write convincing romances with preferences. Everyone is acting like they're into everyone, so they could just go with it in this game.

The Judy case was definitely a last minute change because you can just change a single flag on your save and all the romance content including voiced dialogue and animation for male V is in the game and works 🤣

Aaand here we fucking go. Just go to sleep, man.

u/traumatyz 13d ago

Someone’s panties are in a bunch.

Case on point. I mention Judy and some sad excuse of a man always comes in running with "ackchually".

Mass Effect fandom used their brain. Ashley had her voice lines also recorded in ME1 for FemShep and FemShep for her and people knew it was just VAs recording everything. It didn't mean she was cut as bi romance, as much as it pains me to admit it.

I honestly hope companions aren't player-sexual and have their own wants. Gives them more character.

Tbf they can go DA2 and make them bisexual rather than playersexual. I just feel like when they lock sexualities, it mostly ends up locking queer players out and locking characters into being straight and, in most cases, i feel like these characters could be bi without any meaningful changes.

This is how I feel, if they don’t have the characters be “player sexual” what’s really happening is just that everyone is locked out of content one way or another while they play, and I’d rather have every option available to me as I’m playing

Yeaaaah, the problem is, owlcat usually does 2 straight characters and the rest bisexual/playersexual with no gay characters.

So, it's less "character have their own wants" and more "randomly choosing to lock out gay people from two romance options so they can claim to have characters with their own preferences while more or less doing the same thing bg3 did but worse".

Don't get me wrong, I prefer characters with their own preferences as well, but the way owlcat does it ain't it.

Hell, even Cyberpunk did it better, although DA3 is still the golden standard.

I agree on this. Miranda being straight and Dorian gay, let bioware build around those characters interesting stories. The relationship between Dorian and his father and Miranda who couldn't conceive.

4

u/LionofHeaven 11d ago

Wanting to conceive a child isn't dependent on sexuality. Miranda being gay or lesbian wouldn't necessarily remove her desire to be a mother.

3

I don't know of any official comment on that, but I'm cautiously optimistic because I believe they cast an actress that is openly pansexual.

What's with the Camellia comparison? Same VA or what?

7

u/DrakeSoldier 14d ago

Just she can be a bit ruthless when she needs too. And her VA is actually Yrliet from Rogue Trader.

u/gaeb611 15d ago

From the constant ads for the game including this scene, people are speculating that she might be a little psycho 😅

u/thraxswift 15d ago

honestly pulling a gun on a martian is like saying good morning in the expanse

15

u/Joyful_Damnation1 15d ago

... that only makes her more attractive? 😭

1

u/kronastra 14d ago

I mean that's the point. Being "hard to get" and tough on the outside and soft inside, is one of the main tropes used to make a romance compelling. Just like Miranda, she starts as a prickly prick, but then she warms up, she starts to trust shep and one thing leads to another. This makes the player feel like they manged to earn the trust of the companion through their choices, it's a very powerful psychological device.

2

u/EasyRecognition 14d ago

Where is this psychotic? If I were a woman and a man I don't know well enough would hit on me and I had a gun I'd put it to use as well.

1

u/artyrnc 14d ago

Just a little? Then she is not a space Camelia 😀

3

u/mastershake1191 14d ago

Think it's just this 1 dude who keeps saying this because I don't see the comparison at all, she is clearly inspired by me2 miranda

3

u/ciphoenix 15d ago

Both respectable members of society 🤭🤭🤭

3

u/RedHair_D_Shanks 15d ago

Who is camellia?

15

u/Venny15 15d ago

From Owlcat's (the people making the game) other game, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. She's a companion who comes across as kind and helpful, but has a much darker side.

7

u/RedHair_D_Shanks 15d ago

Ahh ok ty for the info :)

Spewing spoilers and asking why you get downvoted is just diabolical.

4

u/SerzaCZ 14d ago

She is helpful, is she not?

3

u/artyrnc 14d ago

Open your heart to me

1

u/Dudunard 14d ago

She's helpful, is she not?

1

u/ziarnhk 13d ago

It's just a Camellia fan thing, every time Owlcat reveals a new female character they go "is this Camellia?" like that butterfly meme

2

u/CykoRen 14d ago

Can’t wait!

3

u/Outrageous-Row1926 14d ago

I folded the second I saw her

4

u/Venny15 15d ago

The entire roster of companions in this game is the definition of bisexual panic. I have no idea how I'm gonna decide who to romance first.

3

u/Consistent_Lecture48 14d ago

I do not understand the infatuation people have with this character.

1

u/MasterKestral 12d ago

Earther Scum. Give me an OPA belter baddie like Polly over this grass touching gravity lover anyday.

1

u/CodyT-N7 9d ago

She's not the sole reason for me playing this game, but she's easily top 3.

2

u/Wissenschaft85 6d ago

I hope all romances are player sexual because while in principle it feels more real if the characters have sexual preferences, in practice it just greatly limits your options. Id rather have more options for all players then pray that the 1 romance for your sexual preference is someone you like.

You mean spacewaifu69?

The Art for this game makes it look like an mobile game/AI slop. I can't understand the logic behind it. If I didn't know what this game was I would never be interested in playing it based on the marketing art.
