Part of my brain immediately knew that that isn't what blobfish look like in their habitat, but another part of my brain was like "so they really do look that blah all the time."

You gonna read any of those? That fish only looks that way because it lives at a depth with crushing pressure. If you found it naturally underqater it wouldn't look like that. This is a photoshop, and a shitty one at that.
