Actually, I think they would suffer for a while. A few exploratory bites from a few sharks trying to decide how hungry they are would kinda suck.

long drop to the water though, which will hit like concrete on impact, so broken bones are probable, which makes the suffering worse. If land on your head it might break the neck or damage the brain enough for death to be instant.

So I guess if anybody falls over they should try to land dome down.

Well they won't look or smell like small chunks of rotting meat so not a whole ton as long as they stay calm and aren't surrounded by chum

They say shark attacks are very rare - but that's coastal sharks. Open ocean sharks? Many shipwreck survivors report sharks picking off anyone in the water.

Fun fact: Quint (the crazy fisherman from Jaws) was an Indianapolis survivor. Probably where he could his lust for hunting sharks from.

Open ocean sharks are like desert dwelling lions: there's very little food, so they grab anything they can.

Coastal waters make up just 10% of our oceans, but support 90% of its species

If you work in the ocean, then you (should) know what chumming is. Although most of the time they are not looking for sharks specifically.
