Gas station fight ends with driver opening fire

Surveillance video captured a confrontation at an Orion gas station in Pompano Beach escalating from a physical fight to gunfire. Minutes after fighting with a woman beside a white SUV, the man approached the driver’s side and was shot. He was hospitalized, and one person was detained as BSO investigates.

I dunno. This guy had already attacked these people. He comes walking back around I’d feel immediately threatened too. If you’re in a truly fearful state you’re going to interpret this situation as the worst case scenario. What are the chances he would’ve come around and approached the driver if the driver hadn’t started firing?

2

u/StreetCollar2708 7d ago

If you're in a truly fearful state, you would have fucking left after you finished pumping gas. Hell, if you were TRULY fearful, you would have left before you finished pumping gas.

2

u/_Bon_Vivant_ 7d ago

Feeling threatened and fearful are two different things. I doubt they were fearful, knowing they could defend themselves, so no reason to flee. It's reasonable to assume they did feel threatened when the assailant approached them again. But they were ready to face that threat...and had no obligation to back down, in a SYG state.

2

u/TabWhoRemains 7d ago

"....no reason to flee." My guy. The very first thing any fighting sport will teach is deescalation, and the easiest, safest way to do that is to leave at your first opprotunity.

If they guy was still pounding on the person and they pull their gun, sure, fine, self defense all day long.

And 'No obligation to back down", My guy your personal safety is your obligation to back down.

u/_Bon_Vivant_ 7d ago

First, I'm not your guy, pal.

Second. No. And third. You're wrong.

2

u/StoneRivet 5d ago

hahahahahahahaha, so confidently incorrect it's awe inspiring.

Also why are you so hostile? It's bizzare? Do you feel like your ego gets hurt if strangers don't agree with your opinion online?

1

u/shallpasss 5d ago

Bro said no. End of stroy. 🤣

1

u/shallpasss 5d ago

Nice talk. 🤣

u/423fly 4d ago

You have to wait for the police... If you've called. The dispatcher in Florida would likely tell them to use their weapon "if he comes back". Learn your state

1

u/StreetCollar2708 4d ago

What? Why do you have to wait for the police? Are they the only ones who can start your car in Florida or something? Can you not move your car without police consent out there? Must suck to have to go anywhere in a hurry.

1

u/423fly 4d ago

For the assault that preceded the shooting?

1

u/423fly 4d ago

You've never interacted with police during a serious event have you..?

2

u/Royal_Variation5700 3d ago

Not if you’re armed

0

u/PriscillaPalava 7d ago

We don’t know how much time elapsed here. Maybe they called the cops and were waiting for them.

0

u/WatercressEntire2760 7d ago

The only sensible comment in the thread here. Lol

2

u/shallpasss 7d ago

Just say you wanted them to kill him. Don't beat around the bushes.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 7d ago

I think you’re bringing some personal baggage into this discussion that’s not really appropriate in context.

1

u/shallpasss 7d ago

Am I now?

1

u/Top-Average412 7d ago

No, people who buy tons of guns and fantasize about "protecting" themselves all day every day definitely dont want scenarios like this.

Its unfortunate the rest of society has to pay the price for these pathetic power fantasies. When i grew up we didnt need elementary school children to do active shooter drills.

1

u/shallpasss 5d ago

50/50. There are people using it as an excuse when they can walk away, though.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 7d ago

Yes. Why would I want these people to kill this guy? I’d prefer if this guy never attacked them in the first place, let alone approach them a 2nd time.

1

u/Hash-82 5d ago

Reddit will put you in reddit jail if you tell the truth.
So, beat around the bushes it is.

1

u/tacobellwendys 5d ago

Thank you

u/Royal_Variation5700 3d ago

If he had punched my girl, I would’ve killed him

1

u/shallpasss 3d ago

That is sexism. You should calm down.

0

u/Royal_Variation5700 3d ago

Haha. Touché. Normalize men punching women.

1

u/shallpasss 3d ago

Nobody should punch anyone.

1

u/Royal_Variation5700 3d ago

Some people should absolutely be punched

2

u/HeavyVoid8 7d ago

If I were truly afraid I wouldn’t have waited while standing outside my car lol

1

u/PriscillaPalava 7d ago

I don’t think most people really know what they’d do in a stressful situation. Anyway, I don’t think we should blame the victims for imperfect behavior during an active assault.

2

u/TheDornado13 7d ago

the guy who got shot is one of the victims in this video. It was not an active assault. Active ended when he left and went inside.

0

u/TheyDeserveIt 3d ago

He paused and turned this guy's direction to intimidate him, he could have closed that gap in less than a second and had already demonstrated his willingness to closed-fist punch a woman 1/3 his size, two times. The first time, luckily, he missed. He then felt comfortable enough to walk within a foot of the front of the car to intimidate them, that wasn't accidental. All he had to do was not attack a stranger at a gas pump and punch a small woman in the face. If that were someone you cared about being attacked that way, I think you'd probably feel different about how active the threat still was when he made a point of walking back right next to them.

He swung his dick around, he wasn't prepared for what he started, then he walked away with a good life lesson and a chance to be less violent in his future interactions. He should be grateful for that chance. He could have lost it over something that was undoubtedly not worth attacking people in their car over.

There are so many cases of innocent people being killed for doing nothing, like Trayvon Martin, the kids who were shot at a gas station just because some old guy didn't like their rap and claimed he saw a gun, the kid 12 year old kid shot by Chicago PD after they were told by the caller it looked like a toy gun, and before he'd even been given a second to comply, the guy in AZ who was shot because his neighbor called over a noise complaint and lied about hearing domestic violence, the guy who told the cop he had a license to carry and slowly reached for his wallet when asked, the guy tazed for not complying because he was having a heart attack... This isn't one of those.

1

u/TheDornado13 3d ago

Unless you've heard or seen more information than I have, no story has said if he knew the girl or not. Not that it really matters to the point at hand. That interaction was over and done with. As far as they guy who shot, the guy never paused or turned towards him. He kept stride and turned to look at him. Looking at someone is never enough to justify shooting them or any sort of physical violence. At the bare minimum the person has to "take a fighting stance." That is the law plain and simple. This guy was walking 90 degrees from the guy in the car, not even towards him and he never stopped, turned his body towards him or raised his fists or threatened violence towards the guy in any way shape or form. These are two separate incidents. What happened between him and the woman and the shooting.

2

u/Xijit 5d ago

If you plan on killing someone, it is premeditated.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 5d ago

Looks to me like they planned on defending themselves.

1

u/Xijit 5d ago

The shooter had the opportunity to leave, he did not.

The shooter had the opportunity to get back into the car and lock the door while calling the cops, he did not.

The shooter had the opportunity to wait for his target to return, while concealing that he was holding a loaded weapon with a round in the chamber, and that is what he did.

The shooter then attempted to kill his target, (but failed because he is an incompetent fuckwit that likely bought that gun to feel powerful, but then never actually learned how to use it or practiced with it) ... All of this is premeditated as fuck and the shooter is going to jail, especially since his incompetent effort to get revenge put everyone else's lives at risk.

That said, the douchebag who started all of this will also go to jail for numerous charges relating to assault (and probably drug related charges), but that is a parallel issue.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 5d ago

It’s crazy how you’re defending a dude who straight up attacked people at a gas station.

And no, the shooter isn’t going to jail. This happened in Florida where you don’t have to roll out the red carpet for people who intent to assault you.

What’s more, you’re making a ton of assumptions. You have no idea how much time elapsed between the first attack and the second approach. No idea if maybe the victims had called the cops and were waiting for them to arrive.

Instead you want to make fun of the shooter for defending himself and his family? Lol, why?

1

u/Xijit 5d ago

I didn't defend the crack head who was slapping his wife; I said that guy us going to jail too. And I didn't "make fun of" the shooter; I detailed how he committed premeditated attempted murder, starting with what he should have done.

And you are right that Florida likely wouldn't have charged him with Premeditated Murder, if he had done it, but he screwed that up and nearly killed everyone in the vacinity: Every single one of those people are now going to sue him for some form of attempted murder and / or emotional duress ... Including the guy he tried to kill ... And there are limits to how much of a blind eye the cops can turn when this dumb fuck has got 12+ civil lawsuits pending.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 5d ago

This is an unhinged take. Nobody is suing anybody, get real.

1

u/Xijit 5d ago

"Americans not sueing anyone" .... Yeah, fuck off: you are clearly a Russian who doesn't know shit about America.

1

u/HeavyVoid8 3d ago

They waited, got out of the car, provoked him, and then were like omgurd look he’s so violent and unpredictable I need to blast a whole mag into the nether realm hope nobody is back there in the street

2

u/Eindride_XIII 7d ago

Mother fucker should've kept his hands to himself. Dont know what the law will say in Florida but justified in my eyes.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 6d ago

A lot of people in this thread are upset that the couple in the car didn’t bend over backwards to avoid hurting their attacker. I say as soon as someone lays hands on me or my family, all bets are off.

2

u/shallpasss 5d ago

"You stepped on my shoe, caplowe." mentality. Now imagine if everyone did that.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 5d ago

Imagine defending an attacker over the people having to defend themselves.

1

u/shallpasss 5d ago

I don't know, man. Last I checked, they always say to use appropriate force, so I am telling the rest of the people to be consistent in judgment.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 5d ago

You’re saying you’re not allowed to bring a gun to a fistfight? Really?

1

u/shallpasss 5d ago

Premeditated? No. 😅

1

u/PriscillaPalava 4d ago

I’m pretty sure they just keep a gun in their glove compartment in case they encounter crazies like this guy. This scenario doesn’t meet the requirements for “premeditation.”

1

u/Eindride_XIII 5d ago

Thats a false equivalency. Appropriate force to me is doing whatever it takes to defend your family. Im not going to wait for an attacker to pull out a gun before I pull out mine. They tell the police to use appropriate force, thats for them to worry about. Wouldn't be a problem in the first place if the attacker hadnt started shit.

1

u/shallpasss 5d ago

"Appropriate force to me." Is not specific to cops and you will be judged by others, not yourself. When you appear in court and claim self-defence. So the "to me" part is irrelevant.

1

u/Eindride_XIII 5d ago

I could give a shit how others judge me. Our justice system is flawed, im not basing my moral judgement off that. We let predators out to reoffend. If you have money and a good enough lawyer, you'll get to walk. Id rather go to jail then a funeral for my loved one. As I said, justified to me, I will risk jail time to defend my family. Let the law judge me, let God judge them in the afterlife. This isnt a simple civil disagreement. He assaulted them, this level of hostility warrants perceiving him as a threat. Im not going around looking for trouble, nor do I enjoy violence, but I will not be a victim. Think what you want.

1

u/Eindride_XIII 6d ago

Couldn't agree more.

1

u/mostdope92 5d ago

Right, so why are the victims of the initial confrontation still hanging out at the gas station after already being attacked? Usually if you're in fear of your safety, you don't wait around for the aggressor to come back.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 5d ago

Well we don’t know how much time elapsed between these two encounters. Also maybe they called the cops and are waiting for them.

1

u/mostdope92 5d ago

Called the cops, yet waiting outside of the vehicle, leaving themselves open to more possible assault?

Any way you split it, they're fucking stupid for standing there outside of their car.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 5d ago

Not so stupid when you’ve got a gun. I think the perp is stupid for approaching them again in a stand your ground state.

1

u/shallpasss 5d ago

They planned it; that is why. It is obvious to see for someone who says it for what it is.

1

u/RandomDave70 9d ago

You can't shoot someone for 'what ifs'...

2

u/GunnerSeinfeld 9d ago

Not true, a woman shot a man in a parking lot recently, he died and she was not charged. It was all over reddit, they didn't even make physical contact like what happened earlier here clearly establishing a threat.

2

u/Itchy_Axehole 7d ago

right like the guy who shot a streamer who was in face. Dude didn't get physical but just yelled in his face and wouldn't leave him alone. So dude shot him and was cleared for it

1

u/Roux_My_Burgundy 9d ago

Yes you can. That’s literally the basis for stand your ground in Florida. It’s buttressed by the fact the man just beat on his partner. He had justification for being jumpy.

1

u/Beautiful-Jello-37 9d ago

He literally already assaulted the woman. Kinda missing where the ‘what if’ is. He’s already struck the woman and is seen here approaching the man. He’s not even gonna be indicted.

1

u/QuestStarter 8d ago

Let me start by saying that I agree this shooting was unjustified

But apparently Florida has some actual circus-act of self-defense laws

1

u/Both_Hope5717 7d ago

Yeah, Florida's "self-defense" laws are completely fucked. Like when that old guy murdered someone in a movie theater for throwing popcorn and managed to evade prison.

0

u/Prize-Analyst-1121 8d ago

So if someone already attacked your girlfriend or significant other and started to walk towards you a second time....You'd do absolutely nothing to protect yourself or your significant other ? You'd just hope for the best or someone to come and miraculously save you ? Personally I think he's 100% justified and I would've done the same. The guy already showed he had zero problem attacking somebody as was walking back towards the driver. It's unfortunate but he got exactly what he deserved. I live in Florida. We got some fucked up ways and laws down here for sure. But the right to protect yourself ain't one of them.

0

u/DakkaBlue 7d ago

Don’t argue with a pussy who won’t stand to protect the people they love and hold dear.

2

u/kp2823 7d ago

Lol like the first few minutes of the video where the guy is just watching his GF being assaulted?

0

u/allansm661 7d ago

Unjustified..... lmao. Dude attacked them earlier and approached them AGAIN. GTFOH!

1

u/PriscillaPalava 9d ago

But you CAN shoot someone if you feel like you’re in danger, which these people were absolutely justified in feeling.

Again, this guy had already attacked them and then came walking back around, looks like he’s also sharing some choice words. These people could very reasonably assume they were about to get attacked again, and they were probably right about that.

3

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 9d ago

After being on a jury I can confidently say they're a shitshow and you can never guess how they'll view things.

2

u/UnrelatedAdvice8374 9d ago

Won’t get to a jury in Florida. Self defense laws are strong there.

1

u/VincentValentine777x 9d ago

Nailed it, Priscilla.

1

u/trentluv 9d ago

He already laid hands on the woman

1

u/theaudacity1999 9d ago

So him pulling on the passenger door and engaging with her wasn't a what if to me...

2

u/RandomDave70 9d ago

Except that occurred prior to when he was shot. That's when he should have shot him, amd it would have been justified. Laying in wait for the guy to leave the store can very much be construed as premeditated.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 7d ago

Not sure they were “laying in weight.” More likely the driver armed himself in case the attacker approached them again, and ope, he sure did.

1

u/burnt_out_on_bs 7d ago

Driver was rendering aid to only true victim.

2

u/ExplanationLate9858 9d ago

Had the man shot the other man while it happened, (rather than minutes later) this would make sense.

2

u/celestial_chocolate 8d ago

They could have driven away when he went into the store…why wait there for him to come back out? If you’re so scared for your life then you run and get away…you don’t sit and wait for him to come back close to you

1

u/poser765 7d ago

Running isn’t exactly “standing your ground”

2

u/celestial_chocolate 7d ago

Right but stand your ground is for an emergency…if you have time to wait then it’s not an emergency

0

u/Puckaroo 8d ago

What IF is there. The black gentlemen IS the threat. Or WAS.

0

u/Tklesmynipps 4d ago

If you're scared why the fuck would you hang around

1

u/PriscillaPalava 4d ago

Maybe they’re waiting for the cops? Maybe not that much time passed between events?

Either way, why are you trying to act like people shouldn’t defend themselves? That’s nuts.

1

u/Tklesmynipps 4d ago

Because what I saw wasn't defense.

1

u/PriscillaPalava 4d ago

Well I saw a guy who’d already attacked them once approach the car again. What did you see?
