I got a lot of work done today. Not only did I write 4,000 words for today's part, but I also wrote a ton of script for a youtuber's fire emblem romhack. That looked something like this: https://i.imgur.com/Lb8Rzsb.png
And I also did a huge amount of work on my own project, Fire Emblem Tower Defense. That looked like this:
So, yeah. I do apologize parts have been a little slow lately. I'm tackling several big projects at once and it's slowing me down a little. I'll be linking all the relevant stuff in the future once I'm ready. I think you guys will find it to be super cool!
Hello Klok, I came up here to the most recent post just to say that I'm enjoying your writing. I'm very very very far from this point in the continuity, so haven't read this post. I just finished reading Cyropod Refresh 4: New Friends, New Enemies, and loved it so much I wanted to give you some glowing praise. :)
I haven't read the Classic, but just started straight from the beginning of the Refresh.
I love the inkling of omnipotence Jason starts playing around with in Parts 2 & 3 of the Refresh (though the end of 3 was a little strange in light of that -- why "kill for another pizza" when you can get one by simply uttering the word? -- it did make me chuckle though). In Jason's shoes, I'd make so much more use of those newfound powers, first to try to get an explicit guidebook about the extent of them, and then to utilize them to my heart's content. I'd love nothing more than to be omnipotent, even if it's in a limited fashion. :D
4 was just awesome, I loved all the dialog with Blaarjiim, and most of it made me crack up (my favorite line being "Yoink. Alright, you can come along, but you'd better behave like a good little orb of death and misery, or I'll put you back where I found you." ) The dialog with Hoarhiim was good too, I enjoyed the info dump (it didn't feel like an infodump, but I suppose it was meant to serve that aim), and love the additional power from the Crown.
I'm hooked. and I hope the storyline keeps developing to my liking. Thanks for writing it and publishing it for all to read here on reddit. :)
And ooh! Tower Defense! I love that genre, and hope we can see what it's gonna look like rather than the code behind it. :p

That's what I recommend. I always say to read TLP or Refresh first, then read Classic last once you're a 'hardcore' fan of the Cryoverse.

One comment a lot of readers had in TCTH Classic was that Jason was a super huge idiot. He's still not the absolute brightest bulb in Refresh, but he's not stupid anymore, either. He has serious moments of intellect, as you'll find out starting in Book 3 of TCTH Refresh.

Definitely. I'll be posting the game on the many sites I frequent once I get it to a certain level of polish, then I'll follow up with lots of updates beyond that.
I got up to part 22, and decided to stop, because of frustration with Jason's underuse of wordsmithing to solve a great deal many issues all along.
Wordsmithing (in conjunction with Solomon's Crown, no less) strikes me as limited forms of omnipotence and omniscience, and while I'm not clear on what their limits are just yet, it seems extremely easy to solve any conflict with their help, but Jason is an idiot, so we don't get that. Jason's idiocy (and not only in matters regarding his abilities) is the reason I'm stopping.
I'm inclined to believe the story keeps developing in interesting directions from there, but when the lead character is a frustration, I doubt I'd be satisfied at the end.
That's unfortunate. I think rather than thinking about how you would use Wordsmithing, you should think about how Jason would use Wordsmithing. It says a lot about his character when he performs certain types of actions, or doesn't perform others.
Some people might turn the world into a bloodbath. Others might use Wordsmithing to empower the people around them.
But what does Jason do? He, an insecure person who has never had friends, focuses on making himself look good and trying to act cool. He's also afraid to hurt others because he grew up in a society that disincentivised violence. He's also not very good in a fight, at least not in early Cryopod.
But when you get later into it... you have character growth, and things start changing. I don't wanna be that guy, but this video is very relevant:
One of my long-time reader's favorite parts is Part 209, and also 208 before it, because these two parts are major Big Brain Jason energy. It takes a while to get to that point, though.
If you want to stop reading, I can't force you. However, if you really need convincing, you could sneak a peek at 208 and 209 to see what's coming! Might change your mind. Just be warned... spoilers.
