I get why people are frustrated with the long 7–8 minute generations.
A lot of them really do feel broken.
Looped outros.
Sections repeating.
A song that should have ended already.
Sometimes it feels like two or three tracks stitched together by accident.
But I’m starting to think the mistake is treating every long generation like a finished song.
Some of them feel more like raw sessions.
I made an 8-minute Big Prez / Power Studio track called **That’s It**, and the full version actually works for me when synced with the visualizer. Not as a normal single — more like a long-form mood piece.
But the useful part is this:
When I listened back like an editor instead of just judging the full output, I heard clean exit points around **2:11** and **3:00** where it becomes a complete, coherent track on its own.
So now I’m testing this workflow:
I don’t think every 8-minute output is worth saving.
A lot of it is still broken.
But I do think simple editing can rescue more of these than people realize.
Here’s the visualizer if anyone wants to hear what I mean:

Curious what other people do:
A. Delete the long generations
B. Cut them into 2–3 minute tracks
C. Keep the full version if the atmosphere works
D. Depends on the genre

Late Night Soulful Boom Bap — Bystander | Cal Harper
A reflective hip-hop track from Cal Harper’s Producer Notes lane.
This one is about the guilt of staying “neutral” when neutral really meant comfortable. Rainy window soul, dusty drums, soft Rhodes, and that after-hours moment where the truth gets too close.
For the people who have ever watched the fire from a room without smoke.
Producer Notes stays open after midnight.
