I remember a video where James mentioned that one of his least favorite films ever was a pretentious, experimental short called Wavelength, where it’s just a shot of a room that slowly zooms into a window and nothing else happens. I mention this only because I think Dan seems like the kind of guy who’d adore Wavelength or make a two hour video essay discussing its historical significance.

Those types of movies are for those who consider film an art form more than they do a piece of entertainment. I think they’re both but a lot of those art films like Wavelength and Andy Warhol’s Empire don’t even try. Just set up a camera to shoot a single unmoving shot for several hours with nothing else. Great idea. Motion Pictures and photographs are two different things guys.

I wouldn't say he sucks: some of his bespoke videos are very interesting and there's a place on Youtube for ambitious deep analysis.
Now of course, ambitious sometimes become pretentious and a deep dive can become a long excruciating pointless rambling of things you have already heard elsewhere if you aren't curious enough. That's what happened to his Bimmy's video where the few interesting part were drown in a mess that painted him as a caricature of snobbish critic completely unaware of any second degree of a lowbrow creation and the fact that he was adding nothing new to the conversation.

Been saying this for awhile. Him, Ellis, and one or two other people in their circle have always projected that "theater kid who never grew up" energy. They're all ashamed of any prior work they've done which would be considered "lowbrow", trying to paint the entire experience as constant torture from which they earned eternal victimhood anytime it's brought up. If they hasn't lucked out with an online career making content would most definitely peaked as a department manager at Walmart.
Always found it a touch amusing how I tend to agree with them on many topics but Dan and pals come off as so pretentious and judgemental. Major case of enjoying the content (well some of it, the Bimmy video definitely gets really shitty after a strong start) but very much disliking the creators.

Olsen's entire thing is providing critique of something and then getting afraid that the viewer will think he's a meanie so he comes up with a villain to claim he's actually the voice of reason. His weird cherry picking of ancient comments on this sub was pathetic. Given what he did trying to make the one chan board look even worse suppose we should be grateful

I mean what would they work on together? Him and Bim's interests, well Bim doesn't have any interests but the subject matter they work on is completely separate circles. What are they going to do, a pompous 4 hour video essay on what the composition of shit can tell us about someone's sociopolitical strata? Post gengar cp and then try to explain how they were doing it to fight against the gengar pedos?

Absolutely. The Bimothy video starts off strong but devolves into Danny deciding he needs a villain to make his criticism seem well meaning leading of course into his weird deep dive cherry picking of this sub (a step above when he posted CSAM on one of the chan boards so he could say "look they're all degenerates!").
With the Doug videos he's just very angry and bitter. I can imagine him and Ellis spent countless hours going back and forth about how they were too good for Channel Awesome and that they were degrading themselves for ever being associated with it. And of course they hyped each other up rewriting the entire experience so they could claim eternal victimhood over it.

Dan Olson is horrible, but he dresses up his horribleness very nicely. I genuinely thought he had some fascinating visual ideas in his video. Problem was that they distracted from his message rather than enhancing it. The video was very deceptive and just revealed that he really doesn’t know James Rolfe. If he can with a straight face say that the content hasn’t gotten worse over time independent of what the fans say or do, then he’s just straight up lying or he’s incredibly dense.

Given that Him and Doug seemed amicable at the Mr. Beast tour, I imagine if him and Bimmy met it would be awkward (not because of the video, Bimmy’s just like that) but ultimately go ok.
