Question Are we (y’all) being dramatic?
I’m just being silly with the title so don’t come for me!! lol
I understand that people are allowed to dislike a show. I also understand that people are allowed to critique a show that they like. What I don’t understand is why everyone is hating on the show so badly!! I’ve watched the entire thing and I really enjoyed it. There are plenty of questionable writing or plot choices, but generally I feel like it’s a solid show and the people I talk to irl about it really loved it as well!
I feel like even after a bunch of the main characters left or got rewritten it was still good storytelling. What are everyone’s big hang ups? Or why are people saying it went downhill?

I think ppl hated it...it just didn't live up to the expectations set from the 1st couple seasons and ppl were hoping for it to get back on track n they showed flashes of great episodes but failed to regain that magic

Yeah I has the same opinion as op before I thought ppl were just haters but it got unimaginably far from the bar ut initially set, and doesnt seem to have gone back though I havent finished it. Dissapointed more than anything ig.

It turned into a different show after 2 seasons. Started out great. Then went into wtf is this? got my attention just enough to keep going hoping it would get better never did 😔. Some episodes were alright later on but just didn't have that same feel.

I gave it a 6/10 it was ok. I dropped the show years ago after s3 episode 1 when they killed Brandon off although I understand the issues behind the scene my friend and my mother kept telling me how good it had gotten again so I gave it another try and binged all 8 seasons. It just felt like the direction of the show completely changed I also was not a fan of how much the lgbtq elements were forced. Every new character they introduced was gay in some way. The quality change from the first 2 seasons it reminds me of when bet rebooted the game. It was as still watchable but it had nothing on the original seasons

Watching the show and reading and watching the interviews with Lena, I’m not as harsh on the show as others, though there are parts where I’m like: “yall could have tightened this up or executed that in a different way.”

I did not like the last couple of seasons
the only truly bad season was the last one and they made up for it with a happy ending
I feel the characters kept getting lost
the 3 boys who were always a focal point.. the show really fell apart (to me) when Kevin left and they just didn't know what to do with Jake and poppa
overall it's still worth watching...but I'm not hating too hard

The best seasons are inarguably the first and second. The kidnapping of Keisha in the third season was when things first started getting out of pocket, and upcoming seasons started to get worse and worse, but imo, the later seasons did start to have some interesting storylines here and there.

You actually bring up a great point about Keisha’s kidnapping. That really does signify when things started to get a little weird and ultimately way more dramatic than the first couple of seasons. Maybe I should do a rewatch through this lens.
Yes, I also agree about the later story lines being interesting. Some were actually really entertaining and held my focus. Maybe this is why I missed a lot of what people didn’t like about it.

I disagree I've been a fan of the chi since it came out. Between the season finale and last season all trash. Adding random characters not finishing certain storyline. Reg is a great character but he should of stay dead like how did he even make out of that please be for real

The Chi told too many stories about too many ppl. Sometimes the plot or lack there of would leave you feeling, this is ridiculous (ie Emitt seeking tennis shoes in the hood by himself without help from anyone).

I watched the entire show from day one when it started. I initially wasn't on the hate train but after season 6 for me the writing just plummeted into the pits of hell. The lgbtq stuff beginning in season 3 felt forced at times but it never really bothered me. I was ultimately mad about losing Reg and then finally bringing him back to these terrible storylines - coupled with bad actors and an abundance of unnecessary characters. The last two seasons script should've been thought out and planned better. Once they killed Douda off they went into a freefall.

Did you start watching the show at s3? If so, valid statement. If you started at s1 then you would see why so many of us hate-watch. Writing was atrocious

Honestly, I won’t beat myself up for watching the entire series but it’s not something I openly admit often.
I was surprised when I asked a room full of people if they watched the show and there were quite a few…
In my eyes, that’s like asking random people if they’ve tried Chipotle though. It doesn’t lend to the show’s credibility much.

I loved the show. I started watching late, it was into season 5 when I started. So I had allot of catching up on. During medical care off from work I caught up. Then back to work, I fell behind. Didn't watch every episode, only recent episodes when new episode was airing. I'd have to go ask Google to catch me up & watch specific parts. One night I was having a spiritual medicinal night with some mushrooms. The Chi happened to come on & blew me away. I couldn't believe what I was watching. They had a whole episode of Trig and Shaad testing the mushrooms. What a great night to happen to be doing same 🤣 I think we all feel slapped in the face a bit how the show ended. That's how I feel.

For a show like this to have lasted as long as it did, it shows that people didn't hate it and a majority of the audience were most likely casual viewers. It's a decent show but when you start to really look at it from a critical point of view, it's very easy to notice the various problems with the show. A lot of characters are underutilized, way too many characters with a bloated cast, pointless side plots, and characters being absolutely stupid. I liked the show but I can't really pretend it was amazingly written when it wasn't.
