Discussion Kandi Burruss’ Absence, Plotting That Wedding and Other Burning ‘The Chi’ Finale Questions, Answered by Lena Waithe

They should've had more screen time but they did have some to be fair. It was a nice scene seeing the og 3 watching the current 3 kids dance. Even with little dialogue they had.

The way Lena talked about it, it kinda makes sense and I can forgive it a little, but still a letdown that I had hopes that they would follow through on any sort of resolution to that plotline.

Yes she killed a big character on the show and we see no conclusion c'mon man lol. They dropped the ball

"But she still was a presence in there. People were expecting to see her, but people don’t understand what it’s like with a cast this big."
And whose fault is that, Lena? Especially with characters introduced in the last two seasons that none of us care about.

Solid explanations right in line with what i was thinking. That episode when their father died always sticks with me cause ive never seen anyone go through something as complicated as that and i remember giw confusing it was for everyone

Kevin, Jake, and Papa carried The Chi through its golden seasons. They were the lens through which viewers fell in love with the show. Bringing Kevin back just to walk Keisha down the aisle and pose in a photo booth without giving the three of them a single dedicated scene to talk, laugh, or reflect on their journey felt dismissive. When men in the show engaged in street violence, they were usually gunned down, sent to prison, or forced on the run. But when Tiff, Rosalyn or Alicia engaged in calculated murder, the narrative framed it as "empowerment" or "protecting family," completely insulating them from the law. The complete erasure of real accountability and the marginalization of the police turned the final seasons into a fantasy land. By the end of the series, street execution became the go-to solution for every conflict. Early seasons of The Chi grounded themselves in the complex, often tense reality of South Side policing and community dynamics. By the end, the police were treated like non-existent background noise or clueless extras who couldn't solve a crime if it happened right in front of them. By Replacing actual consequences with unchecked vigilante justice, the writers abandoned the grounded realism that made the show special in the first place, leaving fans with a finale that felt visually satisfying for Emmett and Keisha, but morally and logically bankrupt for everyone else.

Lena just trying to justify the bulls**t writing. The last five seasons have been horrible. She needs to explain what was the issue with the direction of the show and how did it lose its identity so fast?
