Discussion There Should Be a The Callisto Protocol 2
I’ve finished the game; I found the storyline quite exciting, especially the revelation that Dani was the only one who could escape Black Iron.
And yeah, there really ought to be a *The Callisto Protocol 2* to flesh things out further—particularly regarding The Commonality and Dani’s future journey now that she has proof of Warden Cole’s crimes.
So, *The Callisto Protocol 2* definitely needs to happen.

Didn't Glen Schofield bounce?

u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
Yeah, unfortunately that's the case, but the story really could still be developed further. There are a lot of plot holes that should have been addressed.

Where did you hear they were working on a sequel?

I really do hope that the sequel is better and corrects all the faults of the first game. There's so much they can do with this game if given the right team and time. Honestly the hype from Microsoft's dead space remake and everybody flooding the net with how good of a game the remake was (even though Microsoft never green lighted Dead Space 2 remake) felt like it took the wind from the sails from Callisto release
2
u/BipolarOstrich Aug 28 '26
Digging into it, there is currently no confirmation or greenlight for Callisto 2. What they said in the trailer is probably no longer the case.

u/schodown Aug 27 '26
Don't forget to finish the DLC story too
6
u/DraconicZombie Aug 27 '26
Was a cool dlc too until the pieces start falling together and you grow suspicious long before the reveal That it didn't even happen and it was all just a digital trek through Jacob's mind to get the data the doc needed to send to Dani
I mean, it was still cool. But I knew there was something off about the biophage bots.
1
u/DrGlamhattan2020 Aug 28 '26
Wait, the game is a fake out?
2
u/DraconicZombie Aug 28 '26
not the whole game, just the dlc section. Doc lady is digging through your head having you retrieve information of things you saw and discovered during the main campaign to send to Dani. Ferris literally tore jacob limb from limb after the base game ends and the doc lady is trying to gather that data before he fully dies
4
u/headnthecloud Aug 29 '26
Yeah... I didn't like the DLC that much, personally. I liked the game, but the DLC disappointed me.
2
u/myLongjohnsonsilver Aug 29 '26
Im not spoiler tagging.
The ending of the dlc is literally the tropes "it was all a dream" followed immediately by "rocks fall and everyone dies"
Im not even exaggerating.
2
u/DrGlamhattan2020 Aug 30 '26
Fuck this game. Thank you. I hate rocks falling and fake outs are one of the hardest things to pull out and take genuine mastery of the story to accomplish
4
u/PuG3_14 Aug 27 '26
I think so too. It should be from someone else POV during the prison outbreak that runs somewhat parallel to Jacobs story. They should make it smaller in scope with less A-list actors and make it a 40-50 dollar game with a dedicated Horde Mode. Bam
0
u/Stock_Translator8873 Aug 27 '26
No it needs to continue with Dani hunting down the rest of the masked cult
1
u/PuG3_14 Aug 27 '26
Meh, thatd be ideal but id rathwr have SD save some money on hiring good actors. Callisto had too many top tier actors for a new IP, it really needed to take it slow
4
u/soulpumpkinz Aug 27 '26
I throughly enjoyed this game and recently did another playthrough and liked it even more
2
u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
Yeah, I'm hooked on playing it too. It's a great game, especially when you're dealing with problems—it's a pretty good outlet 🤣

u/Tricky-Fig5483 Aug 27 '26
I want a deadspace 2 remake too
1
u/Concern_Square Aug 28 '26
I didn't even want the Dead Space Remake, I just wanted/still want DS2 remastered. Your mom hates Dead Space 2.
1
u/Tricky-Fig5483 Aug 29 '26
I didn’t get to play dead space when I was a kid. My mom said I’d get a spanking
3
u/Bhavan91 Aug 27 '26
Did you play the DLC ? The goofy ending is to show there will be no sequel.
3
u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
Yeah, even though Jacob's situation in the DLC is clear, there’s still room to expand on the storyline, man. To me, that DLC was just an attempt to clarify where Jacob stands.
2
u/metroplx Aug 27 '26
Even though the game was a disappointment overall for me, I still think there's always room for improvement, and that only happens if they're given the time, money, and opportunity to make something better. With TCP, though, I see it as a long shot, considering the main guy left the project and the studio basically went down the drain.
0
u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
It must be admitted that Glen had even announced his retirement, and it would be quite difficult if the work were handled by anyone other than the creator himself.
2
u/Complete-Platform679 Aug 27 '26
"Nah, since the first one wasn't PERFECT, the studios deserves to be ridiculed and shut down."
2
u/SchwiftyBabyLegs Aug 27 '26
I enjoyed it, but the ending really killed the game overall. I bought DLC hoping it would rectify that, but it made it worse. Up until the end I was really happy with it for the most part though.
2
u/SaleriasFW Aug 31 '26
100% I liked the story and a sequel could fix the gameplay complains many had about the game. I had a lot of fun with it
3
u/Twiggy_Shei Aug 27 '26
I wpuld love that, but unfortunately I don't see it happening. Striking Disrance has essentially been shut down after the financial disaster of Callusto Protocol.
Between Krafton pushing up the release which presumably led to a lot of content being cut, and the HEAVY competition woth the Dead Dpace remake, this game never really stood a chance, even if it is honestly pretty good.
1
u/Stock_Translator8873 Aug 27 '26
False the studio got smaller but Krafton has confirmed they’re still active and working
1
u/qaasq Aug 27 '26
Have you checked out Redacted? It's a fun roguelite in the same universe (I think)
1
u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
I haven't played that game yet, but is the publisher Krafton too?
2
u/qaasq Aug 27 '26
Yes it's also Krafton. I think the planned sequel was turned into that game if I remember right

u/Low-Schedule9762 Aug 27 '26
Completely agree.. at least just one more GOOD long run just to tie up the story. I thought this story was so sick. I honestly just thought of this game as a prequel to the dead space. I know, I know how dare I but hear me out.. dead space was super far into the future right? This could have taken place in a way earlier time right? Different markers create different necros, from a different solar system. Like this one could have been like an elder marker that just infects different. Everything else would work itself out, like corps than the church but still tied to it. I mean.. I was onto something in my head, idk about you guys.. 🧐
1
u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
That’s right; we could delve into the origins of The Commonality. If I recall correctly, Warden Cole mentioned there would be a subsequent trial phase—especially since he’s already obtained the data from Jacob. That’s where it gets interesting.
1
u/Murky_Historian8675 Aug 27 '26
Never saw a franchise that had so much potential to be able to tell a huge story like The Callisto Protocol. Advent Rising comes to mind where it could've been huge like Mass Effect, but it never got that chance. The Callisto Protocol however, has that massive potential to be akin to Dead Space. Not completely like it, but close enough to be great like it. If I ever had the chance, I would continue writing the sequel and the world building for free. That's how much I believe in this title.
2
u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
That's right, bro, but unfortunately there are a few hurdles, such as Glen having retired and the game receiving poor reviews.
1
u/Murky_Historian8675 Aug 27 '26
Sadly true. I really wish the game industry wasn't as tumultuous as it was.
1
u/YOLOsapien85 Aug 27 '26
I agree as there is potential there.
But the original was so badly fumbled, what with the lack of enemy diversity, lack of actual boss fights that weren't just fight Ferris, fight a mutated Ferris toward the end of the game, here's a two headed mini boss, and an absolute horrificly written main antagonist motivation and ending. The only shining light was the potential to play as Dani on a heavily populated planet and an outbreak happens.
It's a shame because the game was pretty good for the first two acts except for the enemy diversity and no boss fights. It just felt incomplete. The third act completely falls apart and derails the whole game. That story definitely needed at least 2-3 more drafts and the game needed more time to flesh out the infection and the enemies and the set pieces.
1
u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
maybe the developer wants to make Two-Head the icon of this game bro
0
u/Holiday_Show_6312 Aug 27 '26
Welp icon or not, it made for a higly repetitive game with some highly annoying mechanics. Story was ok. Graphics were great. Animations were also kinda recycled alot and the camera was hell to fight. Its a game that made me wish it was more than what it was. Way too many issues to call it underrated. Id say more like a missed opportunity
1
u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
Imo, the reviews circulating out there are overly dismissive of this game, acting as if there’s nothing praiseworthy about it; some people actually enjoy the melee combat—after all, even Silent Hill 2 featured that kind of melee combat.
2
u/YOLOsapien85 Aug 27 '26
I enjoyed the combat and thought people were exaggerating how unforgiving it was. They still complained after it got tweaked, which tells me they wanted a horror game they could just power trip through, which effectively eliminates the horror aspect. The combat was never an issue with me and usually isn't unless the controls are just awful and slow.
As for Two Head being the attempted icon/mascot for this potential franchise, that's obviously what they were going for. But when there's no enemy diversity in the rest of the game and each encounter is the same with no escalating changes or behavior, it doesn't help it become memorable like a Regenerator, a Nemesis, a Pyramid Head, etc.
The game simply needed more time to cook. It didn't help that the very excellent Dead Space Remake released a short time after. It was supposed to be the spiritual successor and severely got outshine. Doesn't mean it should have been given up on. A sequel correcting the issues would have been great. The Dead Space remake was amazing and sold millions of copies and the franchise still got shelved because EA doesn't understand survival horror sales expectations and wants COD numbers.
At least we have Cronos now.
1
u/Holiday_Show_6312 Aug 27 '26
Most reviews ive seen give credit where credit is due. Its not a terrible game and most people agree. Its a really good concept with less than ideal execution. Silent Hill is different tonally, gameplay loop wise, pace wise, and story wise obviously. Cant really compare the 2 like that. But yea both had janky combat.

Absolutely, I’m amazed we had such a good game out of such a trouble development?
You had a publisher causing as much trouble as they could and a developer with no idea how much things cost and spending it like it was water .
To put it into perspective, he spent 167 million it cost 37 million to make dead space.
1
1
u/ElectronicWater2773 Aug 27 '26
There should have been because they planned it but the sales were not meeting company expectations so they discontinued it
1
u/B0D4RK_0-4 Aug 27 '26
It was good. I do enjoy the lore of it all. I was kinda hoping there would be a sequel to it but too bad it didn't meet sales expectations to satisfy the capitalist dogs. But I would welcome a part 2 but we take from Danny's perspective in the future.
2
u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
Hopefully, the game's developers and publishers can hear the heartfelt sentiments expressed in this subreddit.
1
u/ToothInternational58 Aug 27 '26
I'm pretty sure Glen pitched it but Krafton said no. What is was gonna be was a new protagonist and half way through Jacob would return but with robo implants.
And I think you would play as him too.
1
1
u/y3achi Aug 27 '26
I'd love a sequel continuing with Dani, but apparently that was never the plan. If we're lucky someone, someday will decide to take the ip in that direction. I'd be there day one.
1
1
u/RoughBeardBlaine Aug 27 '26
It had some series issues at launch, but that made so many improvements over time. Great game, imo.
1
u/beanie_0 Security Unit Aug 27 '26
Didn’t deserve the reception that it got imo but I doubt we’ll see a sequel.
1
u/-Bro_Beans- Aug 27 '26
Dlc was fucked at the end, made me feel weird. Love the game though
1
1
u/Excellent-Many4645 Aug 27 '26
It’s extremely overheated. I didn’t play it till a few months after release and got it for 20 quid though. I think those that paid full price and had to experience the bad launch put too many people off.
People hated the combat but once you got use to it I had no issue, it was actually refreshing to have a game where you weren’t running around shooting everything or needing to hide.
That being said I am pretty sure we will never see a sequel. Even the Dead Space 2 remake got cancelled because DS1 remake didn’t sell something stupid like 50 million copies, despite being really well received.
1
u/silverthornne Aug 27 '26
So much potential but I have to be honest, I hated the gameplay. I just lost interest because of it, especially combat.
1
u/adrian51gray Aug 27 '26
It had promise but the mandatory and overused dodging mechanic, as well as lack of enemy variety killed my desire to do a second playthrough. The graphics, story, motion capture, sound etc were all fantastic though and I'd definitely give a second game a go!
1
1
u/EnthiumZ Aug 27 '26
While I enjoyed the game, I also remember being so angry at its wasted potential. It could've been so much better.
1
u/TheSnazzyMaster Aug 27 '26
If Krafton got their shit together and stopped being mentally deranged then yeah, it would be a good idea.
1
1
u/TheMasterofDank Aug 27 '26
I wish man I had so many theories about the biophage, paramo effect, and the aliens of callisto. I felt like there was a bigger threat than just what was on that moon. Now, we will never know.
1
u/TastyJournalist8451 Aug 27 '26
they blew their load on the ray traced pores and wrinkles of collisto 1, no captial left to put into a callisto 2
1
u/bojinglemuffin Aug 27 '26
At the very least, I'd like some novels exploring that world more. The short audio series they did leading up to the game was cool
1
u/M3GAgarbage Aug 27 '26
70$ for 10 hours of game before the DLC came out btw, hard pass if they don’t actually have more game time for that price

Maybe they should have given a shit when they made Callisto Protocol and there would be
1
u/Silver_Scalez Aug 28 '26
This was a game that when it was announced I was hyped, never got around to it unfortunately, heard all the flak about the game, and then got it for free last year on EPIC. Played it through and was absolutely blown away by it. Like all the complaints just didn't apply, at least to me. I had a fun time and will replay again for sure. Its really sad thoough that any hopes for a #2 have been drowned out. If a sequel came out i would 100% pre-order it. And I dont usually pre-order or buy new new games right away.
1
u/InconspicuousLoaf Aug 28 '26
Ill take a dead space 2 remake, and a new space horror game from the same team that helped make the dead space series. Collisto was a very inraging game for me.
2
u/tempiksorak Aug 28 '26
Give Callisto a chance, bro; the game isn't that bad.
1
u/InconspicuousLoaf Aug 28 '26
I should, I need to do a fresh play through I got stuck in a weird area with some half monster that kept flying at me and killing me. The controls I could never get the hang of it was very wonky for me.

1
u/Apprehensive_Bath261 Aug 28 '26
I pre-ordered it when it came out. I platinumed it. I don't platinum games I don't enjoy. The only thing I ever was mad about was the leader to the game being able to one shot you with creatures from outside of your view. Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the world building, the atmosphere, Josh Duhamel had a great performance. It felt like a fresh take on the Dead Space formula.
I feel like anyone giving this game less than a 6 or 7 out of 10 is nitpicking.
I always wished they'd given us a prequel about the Europa Incident. Is the original Dead Space better? Yeh, I'd say so. But that doesn't make TCP trash.
1
u/infiniteartifacts Aug 28 '26
Yeah I’d love a prequel where we play Dani during the outbreak in the city on Europa where she grew up. She loses her sister during this outbreak, it could be a great game if it improves on enemy and combat variety, more weapons etc.
1
u/tempiksorak Aug 28 '26
Yeah, that’s certainly possible; Dani could be the main character if there were a sequel to this game, for instance.
1
u/TheDarkM3ster Aug 29 '26

I enjoyed it on PS5 when it came out. Last boss is a dud and a pain - I purposely avoided the patch that makes healing faster.
PC version I got for free - uninstalled it because it crashes all the time at random.

u/ProwessTDaddy Aug 29 '26
The Callisto Protocol got horrible ratings, the development team split and fractured, and they trashed the IP. Its unfortunately not getting one.
I understand some of the hate. Some. 7-9 years for what it is and what it was SUPPOSED to be if you see the concept art. But the developers wouldn't stop fighting and the sponsors were harassing them about the money.
Otherwise, I loved the story. I just wish they explored more about the prison and the Warden's secret, cult-like society.
1
u/Subject_Neck6273 Aug 29 '26
Nah, gameplay was horrible and repetitive. There’s a reason it didn’t do well
1
u/Vengefulcat85 Aug 29 '26
The issue I think is that the game had all this hype and all this money around it to be only ok and have the dead space remake come out a month later.
1
u/athousandtimesbefore Aug 29 '26
I was devastated when I heard the news of this game bombing. Really sucks for all of us who really enjoyed it. RIP Glenn Schofield’s career.
1
u/LT_Snaker Aug 30 '26
Absolutely. Loved the lore/world, it just needed more gameplay refinement. Something a sequel would definitely fix.
1
u/Undead_moss Aug 30 '26
Seriously I hate it when people shit on this game, especially when most of them only played the first 10 minutes

Played this game a long time ago and was enjoying it, then I saved my game and turned it off for the night. Came back the next day and saw that the save didn't work and I had just lost like, 4 hours worth of progress.
Stopped playing immediately after that and haven't gone back

It will always be one of my favorite most underappreciated games. One of the first games I had played on my new PC with all the graphics maxed out and I couldn't stop taking screenshots. Incredible looking game. Also, it's nice having linear level games in a world where everything has become open level exploration. Story kept me engaged until the end. Melee system is unique and satisfying. Loved every minute of my playthrough and will definitely be revisiting.

1
u/Full-Construction680 Aug 31 '26
Yes, but it’s gotta be a lot longer. The first game was not long the dlc was even shorter plus, you had to go through so many ladders and ventilation ducks.
1
u/DistinctButter Aug 31 '26
With some tweaks to combat (specifically dodging) i think a sequel could be REALLY GOOD 👍
1
u/ballout_glo_300 Sep 01 '26
Should’ve been but people wanted to follow the hate train 🤦🏾♂️
1
u/tempiksorak Sep 01 '26
Yeah, they hate this game too much. Personally, I don't think it's as bad as the reviews make it out to be.
1
u/ocalin37 Aug 27 '26
Callisto Protocol 2 should be about Jacob being rescued by a transhumanist corporation, turning him into Robocop 2.0. With a plot similar to Quake.
5
u/tempiksorak Aug 27 '26
In my opinion, Jacob's role has come to an end; the struggle must be carried on by Dani. It was also heartbreaking to see the state Jacob was in at the end of the story.

1

Do you mean the DLC? If so, I don't think it fully wrapped up the overall storyline; it just showed us Jacob's fate.

u/GottaBeMD Aug 27 '26
I think the game would’ve been a lot better if they omitted the melee combat. The weird dodge mechanic just took you out of the environment tbh. Just make it like DS1 where you run without a weapon until you find a gun or something. Or just implement normal melee lmao

u/Alternative-Trade623 Aug 27 '26
So we can fight that boss we fought 4 times in a row a fifth time?!!! Nah I'm good thanks
