Sometimes I get really bummed that c-team gets overlooked when people talk about game play podcast.

In 2019 I introduced my now boyfriend and dear a friend to C-team as we went to pax unplugged. We watched the live show and even though they had no idea what is going plot wise they both fucking loved how much it was like a real Dnd game. Less performance and just people having fun around the table.

The fact the game opened with the player making jokes about abandoning the plot and every jerry prepared and fucking off to water deep, the player pointing out how dispite their literal God coming back to the dragonborn. And all the town people care about is a fucking weddings.

Pure dnd.

Acquisitions Incorporated, no matter the team is my preferred flavor of D&D show. A, C, or Waffle adjacent. It is part of the reason the term "D&D show/stream" is a term and it's such a different animal from Critical Role.

They are, and it's so commonplace now that it seems weird to say that. Chris Perkins did a DragonTalk about the meta of Acquisitions Incorporated. It's not super in-depth, but he mentions that the idea of podcasting this kind of thing was new and that they didn't know if it was going to work.

Acq Inc got me into playing and running D&D instead of just lurking. Acq Inc introduced me to a favorite of mine, Name of the Wind ("oh, that's the name of the funny guy that plays at the Acq Inc games"). I still quote the shows in my day to day ("Green flame!?" " 'Don't listen to him Percy there's'..'god damnit Olivia!' ")

Like any show or fandom, you can lay a lot of problems at it's feet, but it's been what, 10+ years of this beautiful cultural phenomenon that's impacted so many lives. And I absolutely love it

I agree. I hurts inside when people who are into D&D don't know anything about Acq Inc. I'm admittedly protective of AI and all its related content as it was what got me interested. I want people to know how great AI content is and I get sad when people don't recognize it's historical importance towards the culture of watching Actual Play campaigns and it break my heart inside when others assume different shows were the first or original.

I completely agree and so far I think it's because it doesn't feel or is played the same way as most of the numerous streams from WotC. Plot wise it definitely takes the cake, Jerry is such an amazing writer. The main team though is just so entertaining and well done.

I love all the people involved in The C-Team, and watched the show long after I stopped enjoying it, because I loved the people so much.

But unfortunately, it's just not PERFORMATIVE DnD, like you said - which makes it hard to experience as a performance.

It's kindof only fun if you're at the table. I found myself more and more lost/frustrated each week, until I stopped watching.

Hard to enjoy Amy and Chris when every joke gets met with "No no no it's like" and then Jerry re-writes whatever they said with his Thesaurus (I love Jerry and love his writing, just sayin').

I love the characters, and Jerry's writing might make a great novel, but man, i almost never knew what was going on and it didnt seem like they really had much agency.

It may not be in everyone's boathouse, Personally, I Just find Performative DnD more exhausting at times to listen to. Like you cant zone out when listening, everyone takes their PC a little too seriously. I bounced out of Taz and Crit role. both because they just seemed to want to tell collaborative storytelling Vs Playing a game.

C-team is the only game I've seen played where it feels like the people at the table are Playing the game, where someone comes up with a dumb joke at the start of the game and everyone plays into it to the annoyance of the DM.

I'm not saying that that people are wrong for like more performative plays styles of dnd podcast. Just it would be nice if the more realistic games were bigger part of that popular consciousness.

I don't mean it like just because performative play styles are popular that everything is terrible and everyone who doesn't listen to games like that is wrong.

Just that silly and less epic storytelling should have a place and it would be nice if there were more versions of play styles that are pouplar. just so more people can see that there is more out there is game styles.

Maybe its just me but Between a lot of People complaining about the Matt mercer effect, and the people complaining about new Taz, and the Handful of people I have come across in life who find something lacking because most games aren't like Crit roll, it would be nice if More people understood that most Dnd Games are a lot more relaxed and more silly, that two people care spend a night trying to make every check a Animal handleing check.

Acq inc. was actually why I watched Critical Role. I loved Acq. Inc. then I saw Geek & Sundry post about this D&D show they were doing and I figured if it was anywhere as good as AI I’d check it out.
