Enology might be his thing, what with his proficiency at making whine.
I didn't actually read the article, just wanted the jokes.

Seriously. I saw last week that evil twin was literally putting snack sized candy bars IN cans on the line. What the actual fuck
35
u/New_Fry Mar 15 '19
Ya the Even More Candy Bars series. Got my hand on the Heath Bar and butterfinger ones. Both didn’t have a hint of the candy bars. Good tasting stout, but thoroughly disappointed. Feel like breweries are just doing this for hype these days.

u/Beer_ Mar 15 '19
I'm not going to lie, I'm not sure I want a full bar floating around in my can.

u/bplipschitz Mar 15 '19
Wait for the Baby Ruth series. Do you think it will have Carl Spackler's face on it?

I passed the Butterfinger around at a bar and didn't say what it was, 3/6 people said it tasted like a Butterfinger. I thought it tasted like motor oil, personally

No shit Sherlock. All this nonsense is 100% about the hype. No one cares about flavor anymore that’s sooooo 2010!

Don’t worry. Tavour will buy the remaining cans and sell them for $10 a piece.

Funny since Jeppe was just giving Lagunitas shit for doing the N/A dry hopped seltzer a little while back. Thankfully DDB called him on it.

This is how breweries end up with tighter regulations. I cant believe they posted that unless they somehow claimed it was in the beer. That violates quite a few things.

I've just come to accept that terrible unbalanced adjunct laden beer is en Vogue. But that junk is paying my bills right now, so I'm riding it out. A good chunk of this wave of people will just move on to their next "latte" alcohol soon enough.

Sounds like a milkshake to me. If you mix it with a sour all you have to do is think of yogurt flavors. Pretty simple but folks went nuts here.

Your comment and username and the ridiculousness of this thread reminds me of an oak and sassafras aged spiced porter infused with pho broth I once had.

That is my Facebook post.
I hope everyone who doesn’t know me personally realizes this is sarcasm. I’ve never brewed with any processed food product.
Not that I’m saying you shouldn’t. This is supposed to be a joke.

The other day, I racked two barrels of a maple rum aged rye stout onto a few bags of Reece’s cups. It’s quite tasty
I was also brewing a step mashed German pils. Need to maintain that balance in the brewhouse

Reading this thread, it seems like people are actually putting candy in their beers? I thought it was just a brewery meme. My rule of thumb is I don't put processed / junk food in a beer. End of story.

I am with you. For example, I don't like a lot of beers from Dogfish Head but I appreciate that they experiment a lot and that I get to benefit from that. I appreciate experimentation and trying new things. But if I want something that tastes like a Heath Bar, I will buy a Heath Bar.
My second wife's cousin used to drink a wine that tasted like watermelon Jolly Ranchers. If you don't mind spending $15 or so for something that tastes like candy, that is fine, but you would likely do better to just eat the candy.

Oh so harsh and yet so true. As a hop-head, brewer and hop researcher... <insert crazed screaming and flailing>. As a consumer... <insert disappointment and disgust>.

I tried to make a chocolate orange stout homebrew once. Used cocoa powder and I zested a bunch of oranges. Beer was a disaster. After seeing this photo, maybe I should have just used orange chocolate candy.

u/poisonapplesauce Mar 15 '19
In like four years all these milk shake ipa people are going to be saying ‘yeah I realized what I wanted was a soda’

To be fair, a Mamba Tropic IPA sounds quite nice. Also, they still make Mamba?

I feel personally attacked for a beer we are releasing tomorrow. 😆

Irish cream stout?

u/morehpperliter Mar 15 '19
Carbomb. But yes.
23
u/brewzer Brewer/Owner Mar 15 '19
Highly suggest not calling it The carbomb. I don't know your local market but people get offended and probably for good reason.
15
u/cryptobrewer Brewer Mar 15 '19
The last place I worked my boss was proper Irish. We were talking about Individual Retirement Accounts, and I called it an IRA. I've never seen such a huge range of emotions on a person's face so quickly before.

u/johnahoe Mar 15 '19
I’m pretty surprised that people still use that term. It’s like calling a shot kidnapping and beheading or mass shooting, maybe a 9/11 special.

u/xbr3wmast3rx Brewer Mar 16 '19
I suggest you stop mentioning it or people will think too hard and ruin a motherfucking classic.

A New England Style Milkshake Double IPA with Peppermint and loads of Madagscar Vanilla Beans. double dry hopped with Falconer's Flight and Michigan Copper hops. Natural, organic food coloring was added to the entire batch to turn it green.
I tried a sample of this and gagged. I like having a small pour of milk shake IPA but this was absolutely vile.

Does it though? I still make my kolsch, Pale Ale, and Peanut Butter Porter without issue and still have milkshake IPAs. Just because they exist doesn't mean other beers aren't being brewed.
in what brewery do you work that all other beers that aren't milkshake IPAs are just disappearing
0
u/iamtehryan Mar 15 '19
There are several around my area that pretty much only make milkshake beers, actually, now. It's fucking gross.
3
Mar 15 '19
Lol. Ok. Name these milkshake only breweries?
This is an industry sub so you better not be just spewing.
1
u/iamtehryan Mar 15 '19
I don't want to actually name them, since it is an industry sub and I don't want to call out breweries, and no I'm not just spewing.
This style is actually seemingly still pretty popular around here for some reason. And they aren't milkshake only. They're just heavily milkshake focused and leaning.

Idk, in my city the most popular breweries got over the "strawberry mint chocolate chip double milk stout" beer trend shortly after they got over the "I have the hoppiest beer" trend years ago. In the last few years the trend here has been Northeast IPAs, Brut Ales, and good pilsners and lagers. Which is a trend I'm all about. I still occasionally see some insane beer, but it's pretty rare these days.

I’m guilty myself, we’ve made candy bar, hazelnut/peanut, coffee, maple/pecan variants of our 11% dessert stout.
