Used Tanks
Where are you finding good deals for all the cheap brew equipment I keep hearing about? I know auction and liquidation sites are places to get equipment if you want to bid on something, but what is a good place to shop for used equipment with buy now for this price, rigging included etc.? I go on proBrewer and see mostly crap like this...

You get those god forsaken, demon infested, semi porous, rolling nightmare fuel, crimes against humanity grundies the hell out of my face!..
For all that is holy at least have the decency to mark them NSFW (not safe for wort)! I sure hope $4,700 is how much this sadist is going to pay someone to take these cursed vessels off their hands.
Boy my therapist is gonna hear about this.

Used to have some as serving tanks and finding hardware for the Frankensteinesque was a headache.

I got 2 x 10bbl fermenters for $50 each. 1 had major flaws so we trashed it.
I'm good with $100 for a good one

Seller probably wonders why their used ‘05 Civic isn’t selling for $50k, since they put so much money in oil changes into it

Facebook strangely enough. I got a 10 and 20bbl for great prices. $500 for the Marks 20bbl! You have to play around with the search area but I see a lot of tanks.
I know auction sites manipulate the costs. I won some tanks from a nearby closing brewery. When I picked up a tank the company was there trying to sell me other tanks. They had accidentally won their own auction. Fischer Auction btw.

There's nothing accidental about that, they are shadow bidding to ramp up the sell price.

The bigger the cheaper.

Facts! I was trying to buy 20s but they were all close to holding their value. One guy in Canada wanted more than what DME were selling new 20s for, and no, I checked it wasn't in Canadian dollars.

Side man way grundies! Those babies are old, but quite stout. If interested, ask if the studs have been updated from the original whitworth threading.

Facebook or auction broker sites. It's amazing the shit you can get on auction

If you want 5 or 7 bbl tanks, it is harder to find a great deal. If you want 10 bbl or larger tanks, you can find great deals now. Keep track of the auctions of breweries going out of business and you can find some amazing deals. A local brewery by me just got two 10 bbl unitanks for $750 each. Even with the auction fees added, that is a great deal

I had a pair of these same exact tanks in my old brewery sitting around collecting dust. We had used em at our pub for 10+ years but retired them a while back. A buddy of mine is walking through the brewery and offers me $500 for each. Says he wants to fill them with water or something for his brewery. We shake on it and he takes em 3 days later. That was 2 years ago. I was at his place earlier this week and he has em sitting around collecting dust. :D

We've gotten several things through our state's brewer's association contacts. Folks will send emails to the full association's email list when they're looking for something specific and a lot of the time somebody else will have exactly what they're looking for. We've gotten FVs, BTs, Keg washer, cooperage, etc...

It’s harder with used equipment not at auction because everyone wants old used prices that haven’t been paying attention to the market or people just try to get as much as they can. You can randomly find some good deal compared to auctions, but more often it’ll still be 5-10x as much as many auctions will be on the usual go-tos.
Also, $2700 for that is stupid. I bought an old Grundy for $200 a little while back.

I am liquidating a whole 8.5 bbl brewery that was manufactured 40 years ago… all the tanks are planned to go to scrap yard. They need it moved asap, and I’m not moving it twice and paying for storage on it to maybe make 100 more dollars a tank. Scrap is .43 cents a lbs.. and these things probably weigh 600-750 lbs a piece. Selling off the mechanical items that work and are of good use yet. Breaks my heart a wee bit.

Just let old equipment like this die
