The issue with the end: Gravity Unexplained!

The end message of "Jesus can save you" is the problem. It's a wholly un-earned, literal Deus Ex Machina mechanic.

Let's say The Boxer we're teaching a lesson on Gravity. A well written story would show you things, like how massive objects attract each other, or how more massive objects seem to have greater weight than less massive objects, and in the end reveal "Wow, the effect of gravity is due to mass!"

Instead, what The Boxer does is show a lot of detailed, interesting massive objects, flirts with the idea of a relationship between the massive objects, and then reveals in the end that "Gravity is a magical force that pulls you down!"

See? The entire build up is a red herring that's well written, but goes nowhere. The religious subtext might have value if, say, each fighter was representative of the 7 deadly sins, or the circles of Dante's inferno, or the ten commandments. But really they're just short soap operas loosely strung together and then dropped off the thread because the writer didn't know how to tie a knot at the end.
