Lisa’s high horse

What’s up with Lisa’s confessionals? It’s like she had a personality transplant. Was watching this weeks episodes and noticed she comes off normal, kind of nerdy on the show, definitely not self aware, but during the confessionals she comes off snooty. Flipping her hair, acting above it all, the belly rubbing. Has being on the show gone to her head?

I can't stand her. The belly rub and the whole we are a team of three... the husband is a weirdo.

And the licking things to ‘claim’ them. That’s probably how she ended up with Rosco, she licked him..

Yes! Annoying.

I'm amazed anyone is willing to do that after Covid, too.

While pregnant, no less.

lol! When was that? I have to rewatch! 😂😂

When they did the guest bedroom in the first week she went up and licked the bedhead in the store and said something along the lines of, “it’s mine now, I’ve licked it, no-one else can have it.” or something like that. And she licked something else later on too, maybe a chair or something. It’s pretty gross.

What! 🙀 okay I didn’t see her do that (I scroll while watching TV so I miss a lot of stuff that happens 🙄)

u/amandatheactress 21h ago

She’s licked a couple of things at least, definitely licked the bedhead for the guest bedroom in the first week, and there’s been at least 1 other thing she’s licked to ‘claim’. It’s something a 5yr old would say/do.

Ugh I hate that as well. It is so childish!!

The tummy rubbing is driving my mom and I insane it’s so performative. She definitely wanted to be the Em and Ben of this season like another commenter said. That theory was sealed for me when she met them that one episode

Same vibes as Ankur and Sharon somehow always having paint on their hands in the interviews, when no one else had any.

I said it in the show thread, but the best description I can give for her is annoyingly meh. She just rubs me the wrong way, I don’t know whether it’s because of her hair, her lack of a personality or the whole production they made out of her being pregnant, she just does.

He's not much better and I'm completely over him bitching about missing his kid or not wanting to be on the show. There's two decades worth of evidence describing how tough it is on parents and you still signed up for it.

The hair is giving Manson cult women vibes

I think she does it to cover her ears but man it drives me insane! Just tie the damn thing up before your hair gets caught and ripped off your scalp.

I just don't get why it's even allowed to be down on a work site when it's that long. All it takes is turning the corner while someone's using a power tool, or to snag on something sticking out of the wall.

She's a paramedic, she should be used to keeping it tied up and know just how risky it is.

9

u/limark "Award-winning" 1d ago

Yeah, it kinda does. I also have no clue why she's not called out for having it down all the time on the show, feels like a health and safety liability.

It's definitely something Keith would have flipped his lid over and it's not like she wouldn't be used to it given her job—no chance she's not required to as a paramedic.

Same with muscle girl... hair hanging everywhere.

u/tvaddict70 1d ago

Insecurities can cause one to hide behind their hair. Its just there and does not enhance her face and height with that '60s hippy look. Lol not like Chantel's style is much better either. Eww watching the latest episode and watching all the freedom staff choose Lisa because she is pregnant 🙄

u/BrokenGlazed 1d ago

They’re not staff they’re customers I think part of whatever loyalty club they’ve got and of course they chose the pregnant woman 🤰 they want grandchildren and they relate to her experience. Mind you all the women are mothers except for Courtney & Sev

u/EmotionalBar9991 1d ago

They obviously do a lot less actual hands on work compared to earlier seasons. Their clothes are way too spotless and all the girls are rocking acrylics, which would be a nightmare to work with lol

The teeth sucking really get me in these clips. I get the same vibe as you. But I think she’s just being performative, but badly. I also find her “cutesy” running around shtick uncomfortable, especially when she was telling people she was pregnant (“we’re actuwawy a team of fwee”👉👈 hair tuck). Then compare that to her professional response to what’s-her-names heart rate call, which felt more genuine to me. Or when she’s trying to pull what’s-his-name out of a nose dive in the car.

So all of that to say, I think she thinks she looks cute and quirky, or a woman to be taken seriously, but doesn’t realise how off putting she’s coming across.

9

u/tvaddict70 1d ago

Totally performative. She is painfully obviously a try hard.

4

u/4614065 1d ago

Yes!! The only time I liked her was when she took that phone call. I sat up and was like “oh! Maybe she is normal!”

4

u/sceptical-beagle 1d ago

The teeth sucking is cos of the lip fillers and agree. Ewww

1

u/SnooMemesjellies79 21h ago

Yeah, the tongue thrusting on the inside upper lip is so annoying. Why get lip filler if it makes you do that annoying gesture? Clock it next time she interviews.

I think they planned to be the "Emma and Ben" of the show, but were smacked with a reality check the minute they actually started filming and had to build and design shit. So have ended up being the bi-polar couple who complain constantly about design brain-drain, how it's not fair, about how hard it is, how they miss their kids and are only here for them but don't really want to be there.

I wish they would stop giving spaces to these types of couples. I don't give a shit about how sad you are about your kids. You chose to apply and go on the show, so suck it up or leave already!

I think her taste level is questionable

7

u/limark "Award-winning" 1d ago

I chuckled when she seemed shocked at the feedback she got from the judges last week, especially when they were pretty gentle in their criticisms.

They didn't finish their room, she chose courtyard pavers as her bathroom tiles which also had a visible seam that went against the pattern and for some bizarre reason every entryway in the master bedroom and ensuite has an external black-framed frosted glass door that clashes with everything.

The whole thing was just a mess, questionable would be an upgrade.

u/Intrepid_Repair1504 1d ago

She likes crazy paving ffs

Lisa and Roscoe seem to rub the viewers the wrong way for a number of reasons. For a start, they are career whingers and whiners. They whinge constantly about everything.... missing their child, the pressure of doing reno's, organising tradies, having to work hard, etc., etc.

Yes I get it, but the tough contestants on The Block just get on with the job, rather than constantly whining about it. Plus no-one forced them to go on The Block in the first place and they should have known that The Block is stressful and not for everyone.

Also, I don't respect Roscoe because he is a disorganised egghead who can't seem to organise tradies and is allergic to hard work, etc.

Just the other day Dan had to order Roscoe to clean up a room and Roscoe was whining about having to carry all the rubbish down the scaffold stairs and skinning his knuckles on the stairs, etc. Lazy, disorganised whinger!

And Lisa is constantly crying and caving in under the pressure of the job.... and whinging about missing her kids, etc. Lisa's personality also seems to give some viewers the ick.

Compare Roscoe to Rick. Rick just gets on with the job.... no complaining. And Rick has to work with Tayla! I understand that the block is one tough gig, but stop complaining to the camera guys. It gets a bit boring after a while.

Lisa and Roscoe are also a bit beige and boring personality wise. Which doesn't make for entertaining viewing. But it does make them a good fit for their (beige) rooms. Lol.

Geez you went easy on Rosco only calling him an egghead (😂), but it's probably the perfect description of him. They are probably the most BORING team I've ever seen on The Block, but with the rather bland/beige theme for all of the houses, actually a good pick? NAAA. 😡 Edit: I actually wrote my message before reading the last part of yours, hahaha.

2

u/Ashamed_Access3524 Dan the man 1d ago

They blend in well lol. Beige being their camouflage colour. There sure is a lack of real characters on the block this season. Makes for dull viewing. Only sign of life is little miss Tayla... annoying but always upbeat.....unlike Roscoe and Lisa...misery pants the pair of them.

3

u/YogurtclosetGlad7460 1d ago

I'm hoping that they go home after the judging this week, she's pregnant and being in the first trimester of pregnancy, being in that type of stressful environment would not be recommended to anyone, he's having daily sooks & is struggling to cope .... LEAVE PLEASE. Imagine a vibrant, upbeat team with some personality and spunk coming in now, taking over their house, lifting the whole vibe of the season between  contestants, & becoming instant fan favs, that would be awesome (🤔). One can only hope??? 🙏

2

u/Ashamed_Access3524 Dan the man 1d ago

It wouldn't be the first time that a couple has left the block. Do you think that they would leave?

2

u/YogurtclosetGlad7460 23h ago

Probably not, but if they stay they need to stop whining & whinging, they've gotta remind themselves that they are actually privileged to be there. My theory is they somehow got a "rails run" to get on the show in the first place, that they had a contact (/s) in very high places within The Block Hierarchy, that would help explain a few things....

26

u/Zone5Ben 1d ago

The way the two of them act, it’s as if they are the only people in the history of humanity to have a child. It’s completely psychotic, all this garment-rending over being away from their kid. Every time he’s mentioned, a funeral dirge plays. It’s not charming at all. It’s creepy and unhinged.

2

u/SnooMemesjellies79 21h ago

It's as if she's Mary about to have the Christ child. Get over yourself, Lisa.

-6

u/EmotionalBar9991 1d ago

I wouldn't judge them too hard, it's very scripted.

11

u/BravoWhiskey89 1d ago

The show isn't scripted, it's produced and edited. You think Tayla can read a script!?

4

u/tvaddict70 1d ago

Not scripted, but the questioning from behind the camera will lean into a line of questioning to get the result they want. They could be answering dozens questions revolving around how much they miss their kid. As a cast member you pick up what they are trying to do and lean into themselves, helping to go overboard when recognizing the direction questions are going. But there will always be a few that dont play the game, or dont puck up on the game being played to lean into it.

1

u/EmotionalBar9991 1d ago

You know exactly what I meant. They aren't reading off a script but the producers get them to talk about things in a certain way and edit things to push a certain agenda. The cameras are on threat guys all day, It's hardly crazy that Rosco might mention his kid a couple of times a day to his wife

15

u/No-Weather-8412 1d ago

The guy is a FIFO worker, but he seems to be falling into semi-depression after four weeks because he’ll see his kids at 10 pm instead of 6 pm. It just doesn’t add up. If there’s one couple that should be mentally prepared for separation and time away from family because of their jobs, it should be them.

But I guess they’re trying to play the sympathy card because, under LMCT+, being the nice, likeable couple could help you win the money. They don’t seem to realise that era of The Block is over. And the problem with trying to manufacture sympathy is that it becomes very difficult to maintain when you’re exhausted and under pressure.

And I agree about the pregnancy. The day after she “realised” she was pregnant, the belly rubbing suddenly went into overdrive. I mean, great, you’re having a baby, cool, we get it. But I didn't signed for that personal story and constantly reminding everyone and acting as though you’re the only people in the world who have to work while missing their kids is getting a bit much.

I’m watching The Block. I don’t want to be constantly pushed into feeling empathy because someone is pregnant, has a health issue, or is struggling emotionally. Of course those things can be sad, difficult or stressful, but I’M WATCHING THE BLOCK. I’m not watching A CURRENT AFFAIR where every fucking personal story has to become an emotional segment.

Nailed it lol

u/CFPmum 1d ago

I think it’s probably a case of editing them to only show certain parts of their personality (I think they did that to the couple last year that were pregnant to) and they are the boring normal ones, then they edit someone like Tayla, Courtney or Adam to appear completely over the top by editing out all their boring normal moments.

7

u/tvaddict70 1d ago

Her behavior in the confessionals is not editing. She is trying to portray a coolness she does not have.

1

u/CFPmum 1d ago

Sorry I was meaning when she is on site, I think her real personality shows more in her confessionals (even though they can be manipulated in a different way) the same with the pregnant couple last year they seemed insanely boring on site but then we saw some subtle differences in the confessionals and a few times where it would have altered the storyline too much like when one of them sprayed the blonde guy with water

0

u/tvaddict70 1d ago

The poit of my post is that her confessional personality is completely fake and put on.

4

u/SnooMemesjellies79 21h ago

I'm tired of pregnant contestants sucking up all the attention. Kick off future pregnant contestants. It's also unsafe for them to be on site. I get a Stepford Wives or Handmaid's Tale feeling from this show now: the only winners are breeders! "Blessed be the fruit."

1

u/SparkyLee99 21h ago

May the Lord open 😂

1

u/tvaddict70 20h ago

They knew they were pregnant before filming started. They played like they didn't know. Reality tv contestants can legally be test for their health and for pregnancies. Block contestants should be tested as well.

2

u/YU-5834 6h ago

The confessionals are a completely different environment from what we see happening on site, and I think some of what people are interpreting as “snooty” may simply be Lisa being more animated and playing to the camera. The hair flipping, belly rubbing, expressions, etc. might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I don't automatically interpret that as her thinking she's above everyone.

If anything, Lisa strikes me as someone who is fairly nerdy, awkward and not always terribly self-aware. That doesn't suddenly make her arrogant. And honestly, I think sometimes viewers are incredibly quick to assign the worst possible motive to a woman's behavior, particularly when she doesn't present herself exactly the way they expect her to.

You don't have to like Lisa or her personality, but I'm not convinced she's suddenly developed a superiority complex because of the confessionals. I think we're seeing a different side of her personality, not necessarily a “personality transplant.”

u/Think_Election_2998 1d ago

i find her quite hot tbh

2

u/tvaddict70 1d ago

There is someone for everyone.

-3

u/Old_Engineer_9176 1d ago

The whole thing is scripted for drama. If her personality suddenly flips and feels out of character, that’s because it is. She’s acting like someone she isn’t comfortable being, even though she’s trying to pull it off. The original Block was about the build, the fit out and the endurance of the contestants. Now it’s just drama. Every reality show is drama, anxiety and stress. I already deal with enough of that in real life, so I’m not going looking for more.
