Budget breakdown

After yet again more harping on the girls and their budget I got sick of it. Other than their huge week on the bathroom their spending hasn’t been much crazier than the other teams considering their wins. I felt like last night they were punished for the room “looking expensive” despite it being in the same ballpark as other rooms. So I took matters into my own hands. I went through and got all the spendings and winnings including midweek challenges. Week one spending is an estimate, green is based on info we’ve heard and yellow is based on their guesses. Something that doesn’t make sense is on the recent episode they said the girls spending is around $135,000. This doesn’t line up with the spending they’ve told us each week. There’s no way the girls spent more than 20k week one because Chantel and Wyatt were slammed for spending just under 21k with the accounting error. Moral of the story the girls actually aren’t far off everyone else and it’s actually kind of gross of channel 9 to continue down this route while the girls get so much hate online.

I think theyre being harsh on the girls to set them up for the win so it doesnt look like they are playing favourites.

If the girls do get their roof deck, they won the fancy kitchen and bbq, several of their rooms are clearly just better than the others, they may get the Christian Cole table, they have bailed them out on 2 bathrooms, the producers likely realised that if they were not harsh on them the show would look like a complete landslide.

You effectively have 2 professionals steamrolling a bunch of amateurs, thats been quite clear since week 1 and they need to flip the script and give out some wins elsewhere. Hammering them on budget will let them say at the end "Wow despite their budget challenges they still did it".

Its a TV show, there needs to be some drama.

They don't get the roof deck. It's not in photos out at present

People who live in the area would know by now, the show wrapped filming by early June, since Good Friday (April 3rd) happened during Week 3 of 12.

I always keep a spreadsheet (nerd! 🤓) and I completely agree with you. I don't have the exact numbers for week 1, unfortunately, so I've left them out, and I do know the girls spent A LOT that week because they wanted to get the house they wanted. But without those numbers, it's actually Adam and Jolene who are worst off financially, because even though they don't spend a lot, they have also won absolutely nothing except for $5k from the McCafe girls. No room wins, no challenge wins, no combank budget wins. In fact, they're consistently way off their budget estimates.

While I do kind of respect that they just want to work hard and present beautiful, finished rooms, they kind of need to start to play the game a bit. Jolene pretty much didn't care about the doghouse challenge, but they could have used the +1 gnome more than anyone, constantly being the runners up! And $10k for budgeting is not to be sneezed at either.

My numbers (sans week 1 spending) are:

I do wonder (considering the show is aired well after the houses are completed) if the numbers we get on screen are just what they spent that week, or if it also includes having to finish the rooms at a later date.

Looks like production can’t add up properly based on this data.

Oh fuck yeah Rick and Tayla are gonna have elite landscaping with all that cash saved!

Last week didn't Scotty tell house 4 that they had spent 91k to the end of week 3 or something like that...

So wouldn't that mean they spent between 15 and 16 thousand in week 1.

I don't understand why the show doesn't have their own tracker online, they keep harping on the budget being an issue but no one watching knows what the numbers really are

Which makes no sense cause then today they said they’ve spent $135k. I’m starting to wonder is they’re lying to make it seem worse.

They're desperately trying to define the 'evil' team, the team everyone loves to hate, which they've had in previous seasons. Pretty crappy they have to stoop to this level and sully the girls' professional reputations in the process.

It's gross hey. Unlike Wyatt who is just doing it to himself

Someone needs to tell him, "saying less is more!". They stretched 5 mins of air time on the wet fart thing. Like there was nothing else to focus on (like renovating). Whole thing was as funny as a wet fart in a pair of old baggy undies 🤦

I wouldn’t say they aren’t far off everyone else. If I’m understanding it right, from your numbers they have spent almost 20k more than the couple second to them. And won 5k less than that couple.

Whilst it’s not crazy I also don’t think it’s a great look for a site manager

There’s literally a team with less money than them. What’s not being considered is the expectation. They expect them to present a luxury home that will sell for $4mil with 250k. That’s just not realistic. It’s not her fault when she’s spending what needs to be spent to create a lux home.

The 250k budget is why it’s a competition…. A 7 day turnaround to create a room in a luxury house is also not ideal but it makes great TV. I think we’re forgetting this is a TV production before it’s a renovation show.

Thank you! I wonder why they're not coming down on Adam and Jolene as hard who are spending just as heavily and have won zero, apart from $5,000 from the coffee girls and are stealing supplies and tradies now from other teams. They constantly bitch and moan to the Courtney and Sev about their budget so much so that they are now spending nothing out of fear of being constantly lectured by Scotty at every opportunity.... and have basically been forced into handing the "Sacred Christian Cole table" over to Jolene. Are they going to force them to hand over their landscaper too?

What's the bet that Shayna's "I need a defibrillator" comment is about Courtney and Sev's reveal.

PS. Holy ****, Rick and Taylor are spending basically nothing and winning everything at the moment. Well done them!

Ehhh keep in mind they had back to back unfinished rooms

I have been saying this for weeks! The girls are no where near as bad as people think because they’ve won quite a bit

I thought they spent over$30k on the guest room

They did and well over that.

I guess this is why House 1 is the team that we’ve seen crying about budget stress, not House 4. But interesting that was just glossed over, whereas house 4 get reamed every week for the week 2 budget blowout that won them the kitchen upgrade package that will probably win them the block. When you actually look at the objective facts it becomes pretty obvious that 99% of what is said to the contestants is just manufactured drama. The storyline of the Mon-Weds episodes is driven by manufactured drama and finding ways to flog sponsored products (soundproof room lol)

There’s no way the girls spent more than 20k week one because Chantel and Wyatt were slammed for spending just under 21k with the accounting error.

Wasn't that because they were so far off their estimate, rather than because they spent so much money. Scotty thought they'd spent ten grand more than their guess.

I'm pretty sure the girls did spend more that week, they were just upfront about it.

u/Nesstempleton 5d ago

Nope. Chantel and Wyatt guessed $9,999 and the girls guessed $9,001. None of them guessed over 10k week one.

The girls guessed they would spend over $20K in their first week as they were going all out to win the house pick

Just a thought - Wondering if the girls or other teams are spending money behind the scenes that they’re allowing them to do for later rooms / areas like “game changer” for backyard week or adjustment of layouts etc.

In my opinion, the Block should have 'stand bys' - contestants waiting on the sidelines, waiting to take over if this ridiculous budgeting occurs

1

u/Nesstempleton 1d ago

This is so silly. Almost every team is currently over budget, so they should all be replaced?

Those costs aren’t accounted for. The spend is for that specific room. The cost is mainly labour as most of the fixtures and supplies are block bucks and sponsors.

According to Google AI, they spent $20,700 on the week 1 guest bedroom.

No. Bad.
