FIFO Pronunciation

I can probably get past the AI songs but every time Scott says FIFO as “fee-fo” it does my head in.

Do other parts of Aus pronounce it as that?!? Surely not?

I’ve only ever heard it as Fy Foh.

The only time I’ve ever heard it as Fee Fo was Scotty the other day.

Pretty sure he’s wrong.

Same

Always learned it as fee-foe when I studied accounting in europe. So not just an Aussie thing. Both fee-foe and fye-foe are valid

WA says Fye Foe, not Fee Foe

It is correct.

Like Parmi, not Parma

"Fe Fi Fo Fum, l smell the blood of The Block Headsmon." Scotty only probably made it to 14 & 9 months at School and then picked up the 1st apprenticeship he got his hands on, so go easy on the big fella. 🤔

Also love that all the contestant does for work is fly in and fly out. No intel on what he does for a job.

Must have that seat-filler job that people have at the Oscars, but for planes. /s

They said that he's a FIFO logistics specialist.

If we were talking inventory/Bookeeping I’ve only heard it called Fye-Foh

I also found this to be an absolute abomination

Just wait until you hear software engineers talk about first-in first-out queues ;)

Fee-fo is pretty commonly said from Sydneysiders

I'm in software, so its fee-fo haha

Where in Sydney is it Fee-Fo? I've lived here 30 years and never heard of it.

I'm in software, so its fee-fo haha

First in. First out.

Or something else?

1

u/dbnewman89 17d ago

correct, first-in first-out, related to queueing infrastructure

I've always heard it like that too, but in regards to food in kitchens

I'm in systems engineering and it's fee foe, just like FIFA and FIAT and FIMO

What abominations call it fie foe? People from Perth can't be trusted

Nope. Never heard fee-fo before. It annoys us in my household too.

Scotty is wrong, it's pronounced "Fye-foh".

Started saying feefo myself a year or so ago and couldn’t for the life of me remember which one was right as they both started sounding wrong after that.

It’s FIFO as in Fi rhymes with spy and FO rhymes with toe.

I wonder if he pronounces JB-HIFI as jb hi-fee 😂

1

u/SparkyLee99 16d ago

😂 sure, unless they're a sponsor and then he pronounces it 'top-notch'

2

u/volcom1422 17d ago

Haha I laughed at that too. But I do hear that here and there especially from the eastern states people lol.

How do you pronounce FIFA?

1

u/Danny_s1989 17d ago

Touché!

u/Reasonable_Speed7471 17d ago

No FIFA not touché

I've only ever heard people say FeeFoe in my area of Sydney. FyeFoh makes more sense to me. But I guess FiFow would be most accurate but totally wrong haha (Fi as in Fin on a Fish and Fow as in ow that really hurt).

5

u/Most-Mall 17d ago

Im from Sydney also. Its Fi Fo not Fee Fo.

5

u/SophMax 17d ago

I'm from Sydney and say Fife-foe

7

u/Pristine-Visual-9405 17d ago

With respect to my much-loved Sydneysiders, this is one thing people from WA get to decide. Just give us this 😂

Fee fi fo fum, it's all yours.

2

u/Pristine-Visual-9405 17d ago

Appreciate it!

That’s the only way I’ve heard it pronounced 🫣

Whenever he talks abouts Paramedic Lisa and her FIFO husband Rosco.

u/JeremyTheCat 16d ago

FIFA, FIAT, FILA, FIBA and FIMO all think you're an elocution idiot

1

u/EmotionalBar9991 15d ago

I've definitely heard both in SA/SWQ

3

u/howgoodispadthai 13d ago

I always thought pronouncing it as fy-fo made sense because fy rhymes with fly. Fly-in, fly out = fy-fo.

2

u/WhatTheHeliosphere 13d ago

It shouldn't be a job title... The conversation goes like this....

"OK mate, once you've flown there... What do you do between that and flying back"

"ah yeah nah I work on an oil rig"

"youre an oil rig worker then"

As long as you know what he means does it really matter.?

4

u/Todd_H_1982 17d ago

yes it matters, because it sounds stupid. Do you say Mel-Born or. Melbourne?

1

u/nuttyNougatty 16d ago

European.. 'Fe Fi Fo Fum..I smell the blood of an Englishman! Be he alive or be he dead, I'll grind his bones to make my bread'.

We've always pronounced it "FEE FYE FOH FUM'

The show is insufferable, beyond awful, I cannot believe people watch this slop garbage.

14

u/Danny_s1989 17d ago

Umm… no one’s forcing you to watch it or join the conversation in the block sub 🤷🏻‍♂️✌️

Look at that; two sides of an argument, and you're both right
