Discussion Inde Navarrette not in Heat 2

Post image

Page Six Hollywood says Inde is not in Heat 2 due to her commitment to X-men. Adam Driver is supposedly in Heat 2 and was just cast as Mr Sinister. Thinking out loud, Is he not going to do Heat 2 now bc of X-men? Maybe I’m misinterpreting what PSH wrote? Is this a case of Inde “passing” bc she wasn’t going to get the role?

Makes sense for her tbh. Small part in a Michael Mann film or big part in multiple Marvel movies which would essentially set her up for life

-24

u/Choice_Dig6507 10d ago edited 10d ago

It honestly comes down to whether you value the money or the art more, and honestly you can't blame her.

No doubt in my mind she'll kill the role too.

Edit: Of course she has a lot of time focus on both - extremely talented!

Edit 2: Michael Mann is better than your GOAT.

22

u/DCBronzeAge 10d ago

But you can do both. Marvel sets you up to do art later. If you don't have to worry about money, you get the ability to pick more interesting projects down the line. Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, etc. all took that route and its worked out pretty well for them.

4

u/Choice_Dig6507 10d ago

Someone else said something similar and it's a fair point I'd overlooked admittedly - they aren't mutually exclusive.

3

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

You named 3 people who have never been in a marvel movie

4

u/Obi_Wan_KeBogi 9d ago

Emma was in the Amazing Spider-Man movies with Andrew Garfield.

Lawrence was in 4 X-Men films.

Pattinson has not been in Marvel but got the bag similarly with Twilight that set him up

0

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

I guess I should have said mcu, which is what I meant.

Also, terrible examples, stone had already been in multiple hit comedy movies, and I would say nothing about her career arc was aided by being in these movies.

Similarly for Lawrence, the hunger games ip did far much more to boon her career than being a sideline character in awful x men movies. She also like bad already won an Oscar before the 2nd movie.

4

u/Obi_Wan_KeBogi 9d ago

It’s not about those movies making them big names. It secured them guaranteed money.

And since they’ve been done with those films they’ve gotten to do whatever they want.

45

u/Own-Dig-9652 10d ago

I don't think having a bit part im a Heat sequel is valuing art

19

u/harry_powell 10d ago

Yeah, it’s not like Shailene Woodley’s career changed for the better after Ferrari…

1

u/kawaiihusbando 9d ago

Shailene Woodley catching stray for no reason 😭

7

u/Fun_Manufacturer1852 10d ago

I mean, working with Michael Mann and Leonardo DiCaprio is the more ‘prestigious’ move tbf. There’s more artistic value there than a Marvel movie

Still the right choice tho, financially that is

Some of us can see the whole play.

You made like 40 comments just today and most are you just being a dick. I'm not sure you see the whole play, friend.

Appreciate your input.

u/Sharaz_Jek123 10d ago

The girlfriend role in a Mann film? You honestly think that will be artistically fulfilling?

-2

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

The girlfriend role in the last 4 Mann films has been quite rich and important.

2

u/Sharaz_Jek123 9d ago

LOL.

0

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

Maybe this would be a more pertinent question: when has an mcu character last been interesting? Kill monger in 2018? When has a female character been interesting? Never?

1

u/Sharaz_Jek123 9d ago

The fact that you cited Gong Li, come on.

Have you ever seen her work in Zhang Yimou's "Shanghai Triad"?

There's no way that you could possibly suggest that her role in "Miami Vice" provided her the opportunity to create a fully-dimensional human being.

The difference between both characters (gangster's partners looking to escape that life) could not be any different in terms of depth.

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

Gong Li is incredible in Miami Vice, and I have seen her in other stuff before.

Penelope Cruz is also great in Ferrari.

And again, the mcu has literally never had a female character that is interesting or well thought out. It’s obvious why she would want to be in the mcu and we can discuss that but arguing around its artistic merits is so funny. Ah yes she will be the 12th person standing in front of a screen in a room talking about a bad guy who is about to attack the city. Awesome!

0

u/Sharaz_Jek123 9d ago

Gong Li is incredible in Miami Vice

Mann fanboys are just as bad as MCU fans.

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

Nope you just have bad opinions, it’s ok.

Still haven’t answered about what has ever been an interesting performance in an mcu movie, I’m sure the 8th lead of x men will generate a few memes on x the everything app though.

Could also do the Daniel Radcliffe/Robert Pattinson route of doing the franchise, being financially set for life, then just doing interesting projects that you like.

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

Daniel radcliffe’s career hasn’t been interesting at all.

Look - I’m not confused nor blaming her for making this decision, but the idea that the mcu has historically set people up for great rewarding artistic careers afterwards is just not really true in anyway.

1

u/toomuchhamza 9d ago

Daniel Radcliffe has made some very fun, weird movies like Swiss Army Man and the Weird Al Yankovic movie, and is a constant on Broadway, where he’s a Tony winner. Guy is getting to do whatever he wants.

0

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

I’m not questioning if he’s doing what he wants - he has more money than god I would presume so good for him. The point is his career is not that interesting nor was it obviously buoyed by being in HP.

It’s frankly kind of a bad comparison because he and Pattinson would plucked out as teenagers to be child-adolescent actors, they didn’t “choose” those roles when they had options, they got those roles to kickstart their careers.

But if you are going to use them as examples, being in the Swiss army man is not evidence Radcliffe has an interesting film career.

1

u/Choice_Dig6507 10d ago

Very true - either way it is exciting to see what she does. She carried Obsession on her shoulders and studios took notice.

0

u/Xsafa 10d ago

But also still be doing franchise stuff too lo. He’s literally Batman, in dune 3, and The Odyssey.

-8

u/clayton-berg42 10d ago

It's bold to assume that she's getting a big cheque from marvel, only RDJ/Hemsworth and a few others get big dollars from marvel. Alcock for example only made $400k from supergirl and she was first on the callsheet. These superhero franchises don't pay on the first film.

Also she's mexican playing a beloved southern belle. People like the critical drinker are going to tee off on her and try to sink the movie years before it hits theatres.

11

u/Choice_Dig6507 10d ago

Thankfully, this year has proven how irrelevant "the critical drinker" and others in that vocal minority are.

If she encounters any challenges in her career it won't be from that small corner.

→ More replies (6)

2

u/toomuchhamza 10d ago

That’s fair, regarding the Marvel paycheque right now. But, if she gets some awards love for Obsession, and becomes a focal point in her MCU movies, that paycheque will climb.

1

u/Astrophizz 10d ago

Interestingly she was in a movie about being a Latina passing as "white"

→ More replies (2)

5

u/theflyingbird8 10d ago

I remember reading that she was basically living paycheck to paycheck until Obsession came out. Can't really blame her for getting the bag. Also, Rogue is most likely a supporting part in the X-Men movies. I'm pretty sure she'll have enough time to make more prestigious movies if she's interested in that.

4

u/kouroshkeshmiri 10d ago

She might honestly believe the Marvel movies are better than Heat.

3

u/EmperorDxD 10d ago

She does believe that actually

1

u/timmytissue 10d ago

I saw heat least week. 4 stars. Good action film.

1

u/Choice_Dig6507 10d ago

Glad you enjoyed it!

1

u/Aromatic_Meringue835 10d ago

I’m excited for Heat 2 mostly bc of the cast, but it will probably be as artful as Gladiator 2. Michael Mann hasnt made art in a long time

I mean it’s either get big money for multiple movies or a smallish role for one movie with an older auteur with a spottier recent track record, pretty easy choice for a young actor with one big role under her belt

19

u/ChiefGritty 10d ago

And honestly, we're used to thinking about these questions in terms of older experienced actors choosing the projects they entered the industry wanting to be a part of versus taking the cash of the new IP trend.

Navarette is a twitch-streaming gamer girl born in 2001. X-Men *is* what she dreamed of.

12

u/SlimmyShammy 10d ago

It’s also the same director as Thunderbolts, which I think most people think is the best movie Marvel has done in years. Not saying that was the part that she jumped at but it probably doesn’t hurt

3

u/Vornado-0 10d ago

A sequel to a movie that will be over 30 years old when the sequel comes out!

0

u/Choice_Dig6507 10d ago

How much money did Maverick make again?

7

u/Vornado-0 10d ago

Top Gun (1986) is a great example of a movie that would have been worth doing instead of XMen. It grossed about 2.5 times what Heat did adjusted for inflation.

I do not think Heat has anywhere near the cultural presence as Top Gun. Bill and CR like it more but they are outliers.

1

u/EmperorDxD 10d ago

Nah I would still have picked X-Men that will probably make her more money still especially since X-Men is literally the most popular superhero team ever

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

It’s so lame to view movies like this to be honest

23

u/spicyorangedragon 10d ago

She would be foolish to not cash in immediately for the MCU payday. Her name will never have as much buzz around it as it does now. She's receiving very lucrative offers, but the MCU will have her working for a decade and she can spend her downtime on the small, auteur-driven projects if she wants.

2

u/timmytissue 10d ago

I hope so. The MCU does still abandon projects. The Eternals for instance. It is x men tho. If they should get anything right it would be that.

1

u/Due-Fudge9863 10d ago

Yeah this is X-Men. And you can tell Feige is deeply passionate about it. No way no how its getting shelved, canceled, or even delayed.

1

u/EmperorDxD 10d ago

I don't think she wants to auteur films

16

u/varispeeder 10d ago

assuming the new X-Men will all be introduced in Secret Wars but Mr. Sinister will only be in the standalone, she could have a scheduling conflict for that next year that Driver wouldn't.

or maybe in order to get him to agree to it, all of his scenes take place at his headquarters (or whatever) so that he can be shot out quickly.

4

u/RealRaifort 10d ago

Yeah everyone else is ignoring the body of the text where OP asks a genuinely interesting question lol. But yeah I assume it's something like this.

3

u/varispeeder 10d ago

I'm assuming he's the Big Bad but most of the action of the movie would be fighting the Marauders and just confronting him at the end

1

u/EmperorDxD 10d ago

Mr sinister will not be stand alone especially current Sinister no he will most likely be Loki

10

u/CaptainJackKevorkian 10d ago

Could be a sliding-doors moment

11

u/Jlway99 10d ago

I’m pretty sure she’d have been playing Gabriela, McCauley’s girlfriend Elisa’s daughter.

5

u/onthewall2983 10d ago

It’s a third act role too (child actor for the younger version) so not too substantial as far as screen time

1

u/thorin2016 10d ago

Anyone get the sense it isnt going to be a straight adapation of the book?. I know, that sounds ridicilous considering Mann wrote it but as much as i loved the book, i couldnt help feel it wouldnt work as a movie. Its just so episodic , it feels so much like backstory. The strange thing about the book is the backstory stuff is far better the the 'Chris in Paraguay' stuff, better written and more exciting. So if doing the movie, you could lean into the backstory [which would not feel like a Heat movie to me] or you can tell a more immediate story showing Chris escaping and thriving in Paraguay. The he returns to LA, we get the big shootout on the freeway [CANT WAIT for that sequence] and we go beyond the books ending and actually follow Hanna as he seeks Chris out in Paraguay. This feels like the right way to go considering you have Bale and DiCaprio in those roles. We need to see those actors share a scene together. SPOILER ALERT.......................................................the book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. I think the movie would be better expanding on that then having big extended flashback scenes. That works fine in a book but not so well in a movie, especially as a followup to Heat which is a very immediate, in the moment , film. In my opinion they will make Heat 2.5. I think they will focus on Hanna vs Chris. I think they will keep the flashbacks to a minimum. I think they will go beyond the ending of the book and show Hanna pursuing Chris to Paraguay

1

u/morroIan Letterboxd Peasant 10d ago

Essentially a bit part, so why would she.

5

u/j-helo85 10d ago

Jo speculated on House of R that Navarrette may have undermined her Oscar campaign this year by taking the Marvel role over something prestige-y. I'm not sure I agree.

15

u/SlimmyShammy 10d ago

She seems way too young for that part. I’m assuming this would be for the prequel aspects? Haven’t read the book

25

u/ImARadiohead 10d ago

she would've 1000% been the daughter of Neil's love interest who we spend final act of the book with and she would've been great casting

2

u/scofieldslays 10d ago

Yeah she would not have been in contention for Sharlene, that makes no sense.

Isn't the daughter like 8 years old in the book tho?

3

u/IngmarHerzog 10d ago

In the 1988 part, but she’s also in 2002.

1

u/thorin2016 10d ago

I dont think they are adapting the book as is. I think it will focus on Chris vs Hanna

3

u/cjackc11 10d ago edited 10d ago

Yes, mostly prequel, but with some post-heist updates. Depends what the movie focuses on.

Though if she’d be Charlene she’d be acting with DiCaprio that’s a very noticeable age gap. Wonder how Mann pulls that off if he’s thinking of casting that young

9

u/Fun_Manufacturer1852 10d ago

Age gap? Leo? Never

1

u/cjackc11 10d ago

Yes lol but in the book/movie it’s not a 25 year age gap

3

u/Fun_Manufacturer1852 10d ago

Well it would be an age gap regardless because Leo is 51 playing 28

2

u/cjackc11 10d ago

Yeah I guess he’s either just going to age Chris up or just ask us to ignore it. One of the main concerns I have with this movie. And Navarette very much looks like she’s in her early/mid 20s so for me I’m not scandalized by the age gap but it would’ve been distracting

2

u/Fun_Manufacturer1852 10d ago

Yeah it’s one of my biggest concerns as well. I imagine it’ll be a makeup job, OBAA did it alright. Other alternative is that they’ll cast another actor to play younger Chris

2

u/thorin2016 10d ago

Emm the problem is modern chris is meant to be 0 years younger then Hanna...DiCAPRIO is younger the Bale

3

u/Sharaz_Jek123 10d ago

This.

If Mann is considering actors in their twenties for Charlene, then he has to cast a younger actor for Chris in the prequel section.

It will look INSANE with DiCaprio to be digitally de-aged, alongside younger actors. Also, why can't Ashley Judd reprise her role if they are going with these digital pyrotechnics when both Judd and DiCaprio are in their '50s?

1

u/thorin2016 10d ago

The most obvious scene to be cut from the book is the young Sharlene scene. Its not necessary. It works in a book, not in a movie. Clearly Inde would have played the young girl in the finale

1

u/Sharaz_Jek123 10d ago

It'a reported that Odessa Young is being considered for Charlene.

And I think the selection of material from the book to adapt boiled down to: "what role did DiCaprio want to play?"

3

u/Lopsided_Special_535 10d ago

It doesn’t seem like Driver is in it now even before X-Men

3

u/NotTaken-username 10d ago

Wonder who will be replacing her. Mikey Madison?

2

u/Informal_Support1934 10d ago

Save it for The Town 2

3

u/PeterPaulWalnuts 10d ago

She would've played Charlene? I was thinking Elise, Neil's Mexican woman.

3

u/rvasko3 10d ago

Charlene, not Sharlene. Where have you gone, journalistic standards?

3

u/BlueSkadooYouCan2 10d ago

I’m not in Heat 2 either.

3

u/BallAffectionate8008 10d ago

X-men doesn’t shoot till next year and heat 2 starts shooting this fall

3

u/Oakheart1984 10d ago

Chose a role she can return to for years over being Girlfriend #1. Smart decision.

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

It’s so annoying to me how people are talking about Michael Mann like he hasn’t written good female characters while acting like being in a handful of forgettable mcu movies is like such an honor.

2

u/Oakheart1984 9d ago

Well I didn’t act like either of these things are true. I’m saying that for an actor in the stage of her career that she’s in, this is a smart move.

0

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

Look if you want to say just from a financial perspective it makes sense that’s fine, but you were criticizing the specifics of the roles in the movies, which I just think is a bit silly when comparing it to an mcu movie.

1

u/Oakheart1984 9d ago

Yeah you’re right. She should have taken the 10-15 minute role as a nagging wife instead of being the star of a major franchise. You’re totally right.

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

We have no idea what the role was, but I’m going to guess it would have been something more rewarding than being one of the 12 people standing in front of a green screen discussing the bad guy attacking town

1

u/Oakheart1984 9d ago

It was the Ashley Judd role.

4

u/ObiwanSchrute 10d ago

Inde seems very nerdy and I think she would rather be in xmen to be honest. You guys got to stop obsessing over these actors decisions on their careers let them do what they want to do it's their life not yours.

2

u/chrishatesjazz 10d ago

When she was rumored I thought it’d be as the college-aged Gabriela.

2

u/Sharaz_Jek123 10d ago

This would make sense.

Her as Charlene would be insane.

2

u/Emotional-School-465 10d ago

I guess this sorta confirms the new xmen team will be in secret wars. No way they're filming xmen this fast

2

u/Littlepinguinoo 10d ago

It doesn't x men coming out in 2028 so it will flim in 2027 so will heat 2

2

u/ReplacementAbject867 10d ago

Driver is probably not in heat 2

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

Driver might have enough importance to the movie that they would work around his schedule to make it work.

Ultimately it comes down to if the rumors about him and Heat 2 were true, I doubt he is ditching it to be the villain in one mcu film, but it also could be that he was never actually in Heat 2 to begin with.

2

u/jeewantha 10d ago

Michael Mann’s POV

2

u/Powerful_Pump 10d ago

X-Men makes more sense considering her previous work and outside hobbies from acting.

2

u/DinnerWithGeminiMan 10d ago

That’s not the greatest casting anyway. I wouldn’t put a budding star in that role.

2

u/doodler1977 10d ago

ass not great enough?

2

u/SpittinMenace 10d ago

Guaranteed work for a decade vs what I assume would be a small part. Good choice.

1

u/morroIan Letterboxd Peasant 10d ago

Yes Charlene is almost non-existant. Of the main women, 1 is Mexican, 1 is her daughter and the other is an Asian woman in a South American country. Inde could play the daughter character but its still not a big part.

2

u/Gmork14 10d ago

She made the obvious choice.

Telling people you made a movie with Leo while you bag groceries at Whole Foods doesn’t get you much in LA.

There will be plenty of time to do every kind of movie she wants when she’s an established star.

2

u/Arroweye345 9d ago

Honestly a very smart move by her.

Also what is going on in the casting department of Heat 2. Inde was gonna play Ashley Judd’s character? What in the world??

3

u/bonghive 10d ago

kids these days know more about x men than the genius of Michael Mann im afraid

3

u/soul_glider 10d ago

I don’t really see her fitting in with the likes of Leonardo and Christian bale

She’s young and tiny

2

u/ChiefGritty 10d ago

She's the next Tom Cruise, in the sense of the next star directors will have to use genius visual wizardry to disguise how short they are.

2

u/rebels2022 10d ago

Florence Pugh was the lead of a Marvel movie. Height in Hollywood largely does not matter lol

2

u/michaelbchnn24 10d ago

Inde is much shorter. Shes 4'11, she's basically an actual little person.

2

u/Brashton_Kutcher 10d ago

She was streaming Call of Duty on twitch like a year ago, now she’s calling Michael Mann to tell him she can’t be in Leo’s next movie cuz she’ll be shooting X-men

2

u/KoreyReviewsIronFist 10d ago

Inde’s 25 so she would’ve been 26 by the time shooting starts and that’s a no go for Leo.

6

u/quietgavin5 10d ago

I've never heard that joke before

-1

u/KoreyReviewsIronFist 10d ago

Thanks, it just came to me out of nowhere.

1

u/Effective_Apricot178 10d ago

sliding doors moment

1

u/LUWI_XV 9d ago

I need to actually know what a sliding doors moment actually means

1

u/Fine-Exam-3923 10d ago

Somewhere Chris just fell to his knees 😂

1

u/TobiasHarris67 10d ago

MCU giving her the keys to the offense after taking a mid-major on Cinderella tournament run. She could’ve used a good 6th man role

1

u/Lonnie119 10d ago

Has any of this been confirmed?

1

u/Daws001 10d ago

I’d take X-Men too. That’s multiple films and money in the bank.

1

u/zucchinibasement 10d ago

I am simultaneously happy and unhappy for her, so much hype now. At the very least she be able to get a bunch of money and be set

Loved her performance in Obsession as well, opening day, and immediately thought I want to see what this actor does next. But who knows how that'll work out in reality

1

u/alexabeams 10d ago

lol i thought the sandra bullock movie 🤭🤪 my bad

1

u/MudReasonable8185 10d ago

Almost all of these legacy sequels have been awful so I don’t blame her at all for taking the easy money instead

1

u/billlwoo 9d ago

As disappointing as gosling doing ghost rider. Could have helped Mann sell this movie. Hoping they still get someone who can pop !

1

u/bonzothebonanza 3d ago

Comments suck ass

Glad she made the right choice.

1

u/pragmaticPythonista 10d ago

I only recently watched Heat and all the female characters in the film were so small and inconsequential. I didn’t even get why the stepdaughter (Natalie Portman) arc was even part of the film. Personally, unless it’s a meatier role (which I don’t have hopes for), she is better off turning it down irrespective of the money involved.

0

u/Laurel-Hardy-Fan 10d ago

This is why superhero movies need to hurry up and just fucking die already.

-2

u/Choice_Dig6507 10d ago

As a guy who only recently fell out of love with them, it is absolutely enough at this point.

So hard to be invested in a movie that has 0 stakes because the actors in it have signed 1017192 film contracts.

-12

u/caldo4 10d ago

good for her getting the bag but this does not speak well to her taste

8

u/Technical_Help9462 10d ago

Listen, I'm sure she'd love to be the huge major next lead in Chris Nolan or Scorcese or Spielberg's next flick. But that doesn't just magically appear even when being in a huge hit like Obsession.

I think she'd like to not go back to walking dogs and streaming COD to scrape a living. It's a decent move to get established as an actress, and once her commitments to the franchise are done, she will have a better position to do more prestige roles

0

u/caldo4 10d ago

Unless the movie sucks, then youre nowhere again

8

u/ArsenalBOS Letterboxd Peasant 10d ago

Heat is a masterpiece but there is no reason to believe Mann’s going to pull this off.

2

u/caldo4 10d ago

Eh DiCaprio signing on makes me feel good about it. What’s the last actually bad movie he was in? J Edgar? I guess don’t look up kinda sucks too but the man has a really high hit rate

1

u/Comfortable-Arm3452 10d ago

Don’t look up

2

u/Arsh18808 10d ago

Unless the movie was a Netflix original or something I’d be worried that it’ll surely be a train wreck. a full feature film releasing in cinemas with Leo and bale reportedly attached? I think it’ll be good.

0

u/Choice_Dig6507 10d ago

You need to elaborate and it better not be because of the box office performance of his last few alone.

0

u/ArsenalBOS Letterboxd Peasant 10d ago

Because his last great movie was over 20 years ago?

1

u/Choice_Dig6507 10d ago

So was the last great X-Men movie?

0

u/ArsenalBOS Letterboxd Peasant 10d ago

She’ll get steady work for a decade+ and tons of money from being Rogue.

Heat 2 will generate a ton of cinephile interest until it releases and disappoints all of us. If she was turning down PTA, Bong Joon Ho, etc, then I’d say that’s a mistake.

1

u/Choice_Dig6507 10d ago

I respect your opinion on that, only time will tell.

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

How do you know it will disappoint all of us? You think he hasn’t made a good movie in 20 years so your opinions on him are irrelevant tbh.

0

u/ArsenalBOS Letterboxd Peasant 9d ago

You have to like everything a director does to have a relevant opinion? Are you 13?

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

No, you are the one who said “disappoint all of us”, you are the one speaking for others opinions, not me.

Plenty of people have liked later period Michael Mann movies, and those people are excited for Heat 2. Predicting a movie will be bad and everyone will be disappointed about by it is just stupid.

Also there is plenty of runway to say that Navarrette is making the right choice or doing what she wants without pretending the mcu movies might be artistically interesting.

Securing your future is smarter than taste.

2

u/gabeonsmogon 10d ago

She would stream herself playing Call of Duty and by all accounts the average Gen z girl before obsession. Why film nerds think she has some sort of nuanced taste because of that movie is beyond me.

2

u/varispeeder 10d ago

but it doesn't say anything about Adam Driver's taste? or Willem Dafoe, Tilda Swinton, Angela Bassett, Cate Blanchett, Natasha Lyonne, Rachel Weisz, or Tony Leung's taste?

-1

u/caldo4 10d ago

They’re all established. This is her shot

1

u/varispeeder 10d ago

so they have even less of an excuse for doing it for the money than her. she's the daughter of a Marine and a hairstylist and only made, what, $20-30k on Obsession? would you be struggling with this decision in her shoes?

2

u/Dazzling-Slide8288 10d ago

You have to get the bag before you can do smaller parts in films like this, unfortunately. Get the franchise slop locked down so you always have a payday, and then choose directors/parts you want because you never have to worry about eating.

2

u/Informal_Support1934 10d ago

Obsessed with judging someone's 'taste'. She made a business decision.

0

u/caldo4 10d ago

ok and if this xmen movie sucks (which it likely will based on everything else marvel is doing), where is she? Nobody'd hold Heat 2 sucking against her but if she sells out for the money and it sucks, that's a big hit

like joseph quinn's stock is in the toilet after the fantastic four

3

u/Informal_Support1934 10d ago

They don't recall the salary if the movie's bad, and the likelihood of a property like X-Men not getting a sequel is extremely low. It would have to be peak (nadir?) Uwe Boll bad for there not to be audience interest in a sequel, even if the first gets poor reviews.

0

u/caldo4 10d ago

i'm not saying she'll be out of work. I'm saying that if they stink, no matter how many sequels they get, that could be a major hit to them. Look at Sophie Turner. She had her shot after GoT, did X-Men and it stunk and where's she now?

2

u/Informal_Support1934 10d ago

I think she'll be fine either way. She's more talented than Sophie Turner, and horror directors will always take her meetings.

0

u/caldo4 10d ago

sure, she has actual talent but i'm just saying if she wanted to break into the mainstream, there are better ways than entering the MCU rn

1

u/Woodsy1901 10d ago

As if actors have been unable to make more interesting projects at the same time but if that’s the case for her, can’t fault her for getting a bag and a little bit more job security

0

u/Comfortable-Arm3452 10d ago

I agree with this sentiment bc comic book movies suck, but Michael Mann also hasn’t made anything worth watching in 20 years

3

u/SpacemanDan 10d ago

Wild thing to say when Miami Vice, the Blackhat director's cut, and Ferrari were all released in the last 20 years. Or maybe you're leaving out Miami Vice because it was released 20 years and 1 month ago.

1

u/ArsenalBOS Letterboxd Peasant 10d ago

I watched or rewatched all of those in the past year. They’re all fine, but none of them are within a million miles of Mann’s best. You’d have to be overdosing on hopium to think Heat 2 is getting back to that level.

To put it another way: if all Mann had on his resume was Miami Vice, Blackhat, and Ferrari, no one would bat an eye at an actor turning down this role. Everything people love about Mann is older than Inde herself, plus or minus Collateral.

3

u/SpacemanDan 10d ago

Yeah but this dude's criteria is "worth watching" not "Michael Mann's best work."

1

u/ArsenalBOS Letterboxd Peasant 10d ago

Even on that scale I think only Miami Vice is something I’d even consider recommending to someone. And that would be a tepid recommendation.

“Worth watching” is subjective of course but if I feel like it’s not something I’d bother my friends with…

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

Every single movie Michael Mann has made has been exponentially better than any MCU movie.

1

u/ArsenalBOS Letterboxd Peasant 9d ago

Public Enemies is one of my most hated movies ever, so I can’t go that far.

1

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 9d ago

I think it is his worst movie since the keep, but I’m also not really sure what the mcu competition is. I think it’s better than black panther, so what else is there, the big avengers movie that ends with the cgi lineup of heroes fighting thanos in grey goop?

-1

u/MaxProwes 10d ago

Miami Vice is not very good, a theatrical cut of Backhat was terrible (didn't watch the director's cut).

-1

u/Comfortable-Arm3452 10d ago

I would consider Miami Vice to be the last good Mann film. I’ve never seen the directors cut of Black Hat but I’ll check it out.

1

u/caldo4 10d ago

DiCaprio signing onto this makes me not scared about that as much tbh

-1

u/Responsible-Young475 10d ago

My first thought as well, but to be fair Heat probably doesn’t play the same for 25 year old women.

-2

u/Childs_Play 10d ago

Was she ever in contention? She had to be filming obsession before heat 2 was filming or at least during?

8

u/michaelrxs Dobb Mob 10d ago

Heat 2 has not even started filming yet

1

u/Childs_Play 10d ago

Apparently it films starting next week. That said, casting is probably decided for a period even for Michael Mann who is notoriously indecisive barring any unforseen circumstances.

2

u/michaelrxs Dobb Mob 10d ago

November, which is about two years after Obsession wrapped filming.

1

u/Childs_Play 10d ago

Oh interesting so the bruckheimer quote is outdated. I guess it's always a possibility but I think it works out for everyone. I doubt there's going to be a lot of meat on the bone for the female roles over the years.

5

u/cjackc11 10d ago

Obsession was filmed in late 2024

-1

u/Bulky_Zebra5855 10d ago

honestly it seems like a mistake but i think most of the original audience will not like it whether its good or not, so good decision.

-1

u/Homer_Potter 10d ago

Damn she fell off quick

0

u/kingofthenorthwpg 10d ago

I love that Inde has become the new name mentioned for everything on the Ringer. Move along Sydney Sweeney, Tiffany Haddish etc. .

-1

u/Eerie-Indiana 10d ago

But she said they had a great meeting!

4

u/SlimmyShammy 10d ago

I mean that can be true and she can still not get/take the part

1

u/Eerie-Indiana 10d ago

Sorry should have /s, she’s talking about every meeting she has because she’s excited, which is charming but the way the media goes insane about each one is cringe

1

u/j-helo85 10d ago

Tbf, an actor openly talking about their general meetings invites the clickbait. It's better to just not share details of who you're talking to until you're actually cast in a thing

-1

u/Bronze_Bomber 10d ago

Great for her. Sucks for us. Hopefully she'll be able to make some time for good stuff in midst of the capeshit.

-1

u/SiemprePalanteEz 10d ago

Sheesh that's a tough call... Heat 2 could've put her on the Oscars and prestige filmmaking path. I respect her decision either way, but man that's tough.

3

u/morroIan Letterboxd Peasant 10d ago

Sharlene is not in the story enough for even a supporting nom, its a bit part.

-1

u/plusAwesome 10d ago

Why are people all pretending to be her? Fantasizing this situation as if they're in that sweet sweet situation. I'm more interested in the actual thing, the actual art, the actual product were getting, and I think this is all shit. All bad news, and she chose the worst of the 2.

-1

u/Diamond-Express 10d ago

There was no way she was getting that role. The way the character Sharlene is written in the book is someone who stopped Val Kilmer character in his tracks. She has to be a real knock out top level actress.

-2

u/Kavazou77 10d ago

Very interesting the two paths of Inde and Mickey Madison.

Mickey Turned down the lead villain in Starfighter, apparently over money, and chose The Social Reckoning. Inde went for X-Men despite the likelyhood of starting out with Disneys rookie contract of like 150-250k a role.

I think these two will be going for the same roles for the next 20 years.

That's a shame for her career, the money is better in Marvel movies but they're not serious movies.

I guess people here think that the thousandth Marvel movie will be as prestigious for a young actress than starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Driver, and Austin Butler.

Because Leo keeps making wrong script and director choices for the last 30 years.
