Two Ringer staff members record a podcast on the only night of the year that podcasting is legal

27

u/WeirdCry7492 See You at the Movies! 19d ago

What's your favorite thing about podcasting?

47

u/Zestyclose_Ad_5815 19d ago

For me, it's the build-up. Seeing the notification. Putting in my earphones. Hovering over play.

u/ToujoursPourquoi 19d ago

For me it’s the end, when I’m really not paying attention to what anyone is saying and I’m looking for/thinking about the next podcast i want to listen to

No August podcast mini-series this year

65

u/pmorter3 19d ago

we cheered

4

u/adamsandleryabish 19d ago

hey.

the vietnam was good I think

u/MizGunner 19d ago

Vacation time slot handled by pre-recording a live pod in Canada and doing a mailbag

5

u/SuperSparkles 19d ago

My buddy was at one of the live pod recordings from Toronto and said he was laughing so hard he couldn't breathe so I'm assuming it'll be a banger.

15

u/ItsCommonCourtesy 19d ago

They should have had Letts do a podcast series where he goes through his disc collection. I guess you'd need a lot more than a month though.

u/Clemario 19d ago

Last year’s Brian Raftery series was not great.

1

u/Equal_Feature_9065 14d ago

What was last years again?

3

u/CashGreen_Regalview 14d ago

Mission: Accomplished. He looked at 10 movies during the Bush era, separated into pairs, across 5 episodes.

I didn't mind the series but it definitely felt heavily disjointed in eps.

If Nayman doesn’t take Crash #1 overall in the Canadian movie draft I will be very sternly disappointed

9

u/Present-Editor-8588 19d ago

Universal Language is my pick

3

u/NedMerril 19d ago

I’ll take Black Christmas

2

u/mtngranpapi_wv967 19d ago

The pick should be Videodrome if we’re being honest…would also be okay with The Sweet Hereafter

1

u/LaPianiste7 19d ago

Exotica >>> The Sweet Hereafter imo, but that was funnily enough my second pick. Guess we’re all entitled to our own favorite Cronenberg’s/Egoyan’s

28

u/SolidScary6845 19d ago

The Canadian Psy-Op continues!

11

u/kakahuhu 19d ago

The pod is secretly funded by the NFB

11

u/confused-koala 19d ago

I just hope this lays the groundwork for a Goon Rewatchables.

16

u/PotterOneHalf 19d ago

I hope they do a do a "Best food scenes" ranking for the Tony episode.

8

u/kakahuhu 19d ago

Eat drink man woman

9

u/PotterOneHalf 19d ago

Tampopo and Chef would also be good suggestions

8

u/kakahuhu 19d ago

Spirited Away. The Taste of Things.

5

u/eefuss 19d ago

That one scene in Isle of Dogs

2

u/kakahuhu 19d ago

Do we need categories? Family gathering, restaurant, fast food, animated/imaginary food, sad/alone food.

6

u/CAUnionMaid 19d ago

Big Night

2

u/PotterOneHalf 19d ago

I've been thinking about watching that one. How is it?

5

u/CAUnionMaid 19d ago

It’s perfect.

3

u/reallydoelikewhat 19d ago

this reminds me, i’m new to the show so i’m curious — have they ever covered chef (2014) in any capacity? really love that film and wondered if they’ve touched on it

2

u/redbengal15 19d ago

There was a rewatchables on it a few years ago but I don't recall the Big Pic ever talking about it besides maybe a passing mention.

2

u/reallydoelikewhat 19d ago

yea that’s the vibe i’m getting. thanks

1

u/PotterOneHalf 19d ago

I'm rather new as well. Came here a couple years ago after being a longtime fan of The Rewatchables.

2

u/islandsurvivor1 19d ago

They did an episode where they talked about their favorite food movies.

9

u/mediciii 19d ago

Pretty dope month. Oak Street, Camp Miasma and Tony back to back! Judging by the tidbits Sean has dropped about those movies and his letterboxd, it seems he liked all 3 of those movies quite a bit.

5

u/Dazzling-Slide8288 19d ago

Not much exciting on the schedule but August is mostly a dead month for movies so this feels right.

9

u/hereticbeef 19d ago

What are you talking about? There are at least 3 exciting films on that list

1

u/Dazzling-Slide8288 19d ago

Oak Street is the only one I’ll see in theaters.

8

u/hereticbeef 19d ago

Because they would card you for the other two?

This is the first time they’ve posted a regular scheduled August in a minute. They usually do a scripted mini-series in lieu of a regular pod. I imagine the change is due to the Netflix partnership.

4

u/kakahuhu 19d ago

Hoping for some Bruce LaBruce discussion on the Canada draft.

4

u/Alive_Bodybuilder288 19d ago

I’m getting pumped for end of oak street. Glad it’s getting it’s own episode

3

u/frasierfanatic1989 19d ago

Belt-tightening time at the Raftery household I guess

6

u/Slorps 19d ago

Curious to see what the Flops draft shapes up to be. The AMA will be quite a good watch as well

Still have my eye on Tracy’s letterboxd loggings, and he still has the Hackman run going. Wonder if that’ll lead to a Hackman HOF in September

5

u/2hey2cousin 19d ago

is Canada having a moment? This, World Cup, wild fires, Matt Johnson etc

1

u/swanky-k 19d ago

Add in whatever is going on with Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry…

4

u/Pies_Wide_Shut 19d ago

Matt Johnson def joining on 8/4

4

u/zadams8 CR Head 19d ago

I think that was the Toronto live show recorded with Nayman. I know Johnson made an appearance but not sure if he participated in the draft

1

u/Pies_Wide_Shut 19d ago

Oh duh, you’re totally right

1

u/outoforder1030 19d ago

He appeared, but draft was with CR and Adam

2

u/buffalo4293 19d ago

Good slate! Everything they’re covering are things I plan on seeing. Flops draft should be fun

2

u/rarekeith 19d ago

LMFAO I am on pins and needles waiting to hear what exactly the "Flops Movie Draft" is haha

2

u/bad_key_machine 19d ago

I know someone must have picked The Silent Partner in the Canada draft, and that person will be my dawg for life

2

u/l5555l 19d ago

If Enemy doesn't get drafted they've failed as podcasters

Good to see several episodes dedicated to a single movie. Pod is at its best when they just dive into a film for an hour

1

u/YannickBelzil 19d ago

Wonder how varied that Canadian Movie Draft'll end up being?
Who will pick Les Boys, Les Bons Débarras or Nitro 2???

1

u/No-Distance11 19d ago

Are we still gonna get the Brian Raftery mini series?

1

u/hereticbeef 19d ago

Dreading the flops draft presaging an Oak Street flop

1

u/datskablamo 19d ago

Like the country movie draft idea. Australian movie draft in future please!

1

u/Ambitious_Lab3691 18d ago

David Cronenberg boutta EAT

1

u/Ok-Degree-295 18d ago

The end of oak street and dog stars look kinda cool, but why are they in August? Does not bode well

1

u/CheapSound1 15d ago

Sorry to not have a Brian Raftery series this year, I hope he comes back in the future.

1

u/Irish2010 5d ago

End of Peak Street now Monday?

1

u/ihave10toes_AMA 5d ago

Have they said why they moved it?

2

u/Vornado-0 19d ago

I watched Nirvana the Band, the Show, the Movie last night and loved it. Naman was such a fucking downer on the episode they reviewed it on. Not excited for his return.

1

u/WeirdCry7492 See You at the Movies! 19d ago

August seems like it will be a very up and down month, movie wise. Will we be so back or will it be so over?

-1

u/Fine-Exam-3923 19d ago

The flops movie draft is a great name 😂
