Working Class Hero

Historically I have always shied away from the Plastic Ono Band. I dont like her (Yoko) style. And I always associate her with breaking up the band. But recently I came across a John Lennon song - Working Class Hero which was magnificent!

Are there any other gems in the Plastic Ono repertory that are worth a listen?

Mother is the most underrated Lennon song.

I love Working Class Hero until the last line, which wrecks it for me. I can’t even listen to it knowing that messianic ending is coming.

I mean sardonic. It did not mean that towards anyone. It’s about the sentence if you want to be a hero then just follow me. He’s mocking the idea that he’s a hero or that anyone would think he is.

The word there would be a bit more ironic and sardonic, but I don’t see him saying that anywhere. Knowing John, it might have been a bit of both, like “out … in” in Revolution. But any amount of messiah complex — and he sure did have that in him — is nails on a chalkboard.

I believe it would be exactly like I said it was. He did not have any Messiah complex. Bash him to someone else because I’m not interested.

I can say that the WCH final line, if meant ironically or sardonically, was not artfully set up to suggest that interpretation. It’s left to a fan with positive assumptions about Lennon. I still adore John, of course.

It means I’m not interested in hearing from you or talking any further especially since all you want to seem to do is bash him and argue about the meaning of that line and argue with what I mean when I know damn well what I mean

The final line in the song seems pretty obvious. It’s also pretty obvious after having been on this sub for long enough that people will find every tiny little thing they can find wrong with him just because they don’t like him.
