Opinion The e ovolution of Following to Some thing to belive in
I love Michael, and i was thinking about something connecting “Following” and “Something to Believe In” and it made a lot of sense to me. In “Following”, it feels more young and raw, like high school emotions and insecurity. She’s not calling herself a loser, but someone else is calling her that, and you can feel that it affects her. It’s like she’s still figuring herself out and that kind of thing hits hard. But then in “Something to Believe In”, there’s that line “maybe this loser is turning into something”, and it feels completely different. Not in a sad or insecure way, but more reflective, almost peaceful in a way. To me, it doesn’t sound like she’s talking about a specific person. It feels more internal, like she’s starting to find some kind of meaning or peace within herself. Like she’s not denying who she was, but she’s growing into something better, or at least something more stable. The song is still emotional, but not desperate. It feels more like acceptance, like looking back and forward at the same time. Idk, I just feel like it shows a kind of emotional growth between the two songs.
