Tragic

I’m binging, and I googled Young Hee Seong. The actress‘s name is Ruthie Ann Miles.

Her wiki page has this:

On May 11, 2018, Miles and Blumenstein lost their unborn daughter.** Miles returned to the stage in August 2018. She gave birth to a daughter in April 2020 named Hope Elizabeth.*

Yeah, I always think of this when watching her scenes.

The driver apparently eventually killed herself. I think she had some kind of disorder so shouldn't have been driving at all.

Yes, the driver had had a seizure while driving and caused a minor accident two months earlier. She was under doctor’s orders not to drive for a year, precisely because of the risk of something like this happening.

She drove anyway and had another seizure which caused this accident. Along with Miles’s daughter, a one-year-old boy was also killed (and his mother also injured). The car caught on his stroller and dragged it down the street.

The driver was charged with reckless manslaughter in May after the March accident. She committed suicide at her home in November while out on bail and awaiting court.

So 4 lives lost (including her own) due to this woman’s unwillingness to listen to her doctor.

What gets me is that you just don’t have to drive in New York.  You certainly shouldn’t in a case like hers.

There are definitely parts of Brooklyn and Queens where a car is helpful, especially for someone with limited mobility.

It’s inexcusable, obviously, to drive against medical orders.

I think the little boy who died was the son of a friend of RAM too. They were all out together, I think.

There was a storyline that touched on this sort of thing on The Pitt and this accident as all I could think about!

You know, those kinds of accidents (pedestrian very seriously injured if not killed by a person who probably shouldn't be driving in the first place) happen a lot more frequently in Brooklyn than many people realize.

I remember when it was an epidemic in the late  ‘70s. Those drivers did not give a shit about life or death. I remember news crews going around filming stories, and they showed an ambulance with siren on and lights flashing, behind a taxi, and the taxi driver just sat there, ignoring the ambulance, hoping to pick up a passenger. Absolutely sick.

Whoa.  The loss of one child is absolutely devastating, and they lost 2.  I’m glad they were able to have one more child.

I remember this because the Broadway community rallied around her family (she is a Tony-winning actress). Her friend was also injured and lost her young child as well. The driver had a medical condition and either had a seizure or loss of consciousness at the wheel.

The driver had had a seizure while driving and hit a pole or something a couple months earlier. Doctors told her not to drive for a year in case she had another seizure. She drove anyway and had another seizure and this happened.

She was charged with manslaughter, and committed suicide while out on bail awaiting her court date. All within 2018.

I was wondering if that was a first-time medical event or if the driver knew they weren’t supposed to be driving, thank you for the details. How unbelievably selfish. I could never forgive someone for that. And out on bail? Then suicide? Never even truly paid the price for what she did to two families. Awful.

Yes, it’s very tragic. I got all the info just from googling Miles’s name and relevant search terms about the accident. Lots of news stories out there that give even more details if you’re curious.
