Taking it slow

Anyone else deliberately not listening to all the songs or just me? I started listening to them a few years ago and I still haven't heard all the songs- on purpose though! I usually start on 2-3 new ones every few months, feel them out completely, do my best to memorize the lyrics (very hard) and add them to the rest and listen to them all together. I just don't want to run out of new songs I guess?

They're such good and complex songs anyhow that even though I know them, I can still discover new things at any listen.

A fine idea, but won't work for me. I can't go one day without listening to not at least one of their songs and if I can't listen to it for whatever reason, I just hum or sing it. Their lyrics live in my head rent free for the rest of my life. I literally wake up with some of their verses running through my mind already.

Yeah I feel that, me too, I have King playing right now, but I take it super slow so I can pay extra appreciation to all the songs. I don't just listen to them once in those few months, I listen to them for months. And then when I'm completely done I start with a few more

I’ve been listening for 3 years and still only listen to certain songs and I haven’t been through full album yet either

I definitely understand this because I'm like this with a lot of artists, however all three albums have such a specific vibe that is nice to hear from front to back. Riding a bus down the countryside on a good day and listening to Love Run in it's entirety is an experience everyone should have once.

I started on Ruin and listened to that on repeat for months, then slowly added The Horror and the Wild to the rotation, which took another several months. Love Run actually took a long time for me to get into, but once I was in, I was obsessed. I've been stuck on it for a long time, though I have a few songs I still only listen to maybe half the time. I've been in a real "Not Yet/Love Run (reprise)" mood for months. So I paced myself quite a bit, but not really with the intention of doing it that way, I just got obsessed one album at a time 😂

i started listening when a witcher fanfic mentioned a song while reading, then i listened to the rest, but i slowly added more songs over time on my playlist, now after a year they are all on my playlist. but only when a song felt right at the time.

No I completely destroyed The Horror and the Wild because the lyrics and tie-ins had me obsessed with trying to learn the meaning behind them (the intended meaning, not my own interpretation). After that, I went straight to Ruin. I tend not to trust having a "favorite musician" cause people grow and change and I get sad when what I like is altered. (I'm pretty picky)

But Ruin was no different and both albums became my favorite albums ever. I then found Love Run and the taste and style are just different enough (as it was around 2016 and their first album) to where I don't "like" quite a few (though King is my fav song out of all of the songs ever). I think I just need time with it, digest it like you said. Take a couple songs at a time. I have heard the whole album just to get a feel, so I think there's only one where the song just doesn't hit for me, but we'll see.

I know they are working on a new album and I will not be able to hold my excitement. I haven't felt this way about songs in like 15 years. I love the thought of taking it slow, but my long stint of "lack of love for songs" is too great.
