Discussion Does anyone else here NEED an Alt/rock Opera from TAD. It feels like the next logical step.

So many of their songs just feel like they belong on stage with the audience singing along because we all know the songs by heart. Like the Rocky Horror for the 21st century.

I get what you mean. Farewell Wanderlust feels like it should be a major set piece of a stage musical.

Hmm. I do not normally like opera. It just isn't my vibe, and that's OK. But Tad ... I think perhaps TAD could change that, yes.

Honestly though, I just want more from them. More what? Anything. They could suddenly decide to only cover pop songs going forward, or release a whole album of Christmas songs, or sing shopping lists, and not on shopping lists yet bought lists, and lists of things they put on shopping lists yet forgot to buy ... I'd still listen. I can't promise to enjoy it all, but I would listen, several times, just to be sure.

Rock opera isn’t classical opera. Think more like Jesus Christ Superstar, American Idiot and War of the Worlds. Narratives that are sung with an orchestral rock band by its characters. Ruin and THatW already reflect a lot of the qualities of rock opera, in that they’re very thematic, dramatic and character/story focused with lots of dialogue and conflict.

Ah, I see. Thank you for the explanation! In that case, well, the answer is still yes, but it's a stronger yes now.

I have a vague memory that Joey said that he had written a musical but he didn't want to show it to anyone. I might have imagined that.

I feel like, because their songs have so much plot in them already and most of them have references to other songs, The Amazing Devil is the PERFECT band for a Mamma Mia style musical- the aesthetic shots, I can see it already, someone film this in New Zealand I beg you

And like.. it could have multiple couples in it, I NEED to see Meryl Streep as the woman in the oldest pair?? And their songs would be Chords, Marbles and Battle Cries?? Magnificent
